Oh, not to worry...., I kid - mainly because I know that pay is always a sore spot with teachers.
Teachers put in a ton of unpaid overtime for everything from sports, extra-curricular and even time at home marking.
Since this was a parody video, I assumed the sarcasm was implied

Hold it, Teachers make $800 a week? - I had no idea it was so much.
Time to re-think that pay scale.....

I hope you're joking, first of all. Why do I hope that? Because teachers should be paid abundantly more for the work we put in. It's a hard job. If you want more specific, detailed, cited reasons why it's a hard job, I hashed a lot of that out on an old post here.

If you're too busy to pine over all of that information though, I think Donald Quinn nailed it on the head with this:
"If a doctor, lawyer, or dentist had 40 people in his office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn't want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he might have some conception of the classroom teacher's job." ~Quinn

Finally, no, I've got 5 years of experience and make about $950 every 2 (that's two) weeks.

Hey, don't think my 11 year old son doesn't still try and pull things like that. (try getting him out to rake the leaves or pine needles.)
My 15 year old daughter on the other hand replies with anger and contempt but is essentially the same stubbornness. They also think if they just keep asking, eventually they will just get their way.
Patience and flat answers are are the way to go - tough sometimes but the right way.

I would expect to hear a reply like "Nooooo! Iiittttssss toooo haaarrrd! You're the meanest father in the whole world! (child slumps down to floor, bursts into loud theatrical sobbing)".
In reply to this comment by Sagemind:
I can often be the first to over-analyze things - but as my wife tells me, "I over think things." So I'll just say, "don't argue, just put it in the sink."

Patience and parenting go hand in hand.

Just passing on a suggestion for the future.
I just redefined my comment from a recent post and though it might be worth mentioning here. From this conversation: http://terrible.videosift.com/talk/Videosift-5-0-Request-Allow-block-of-user-Avatars

My Comment:

I think it would be kind of neat to see not only member's avatars, but the avatars they've had in the past. While some people change their avatar every time the wind blows, other people only change it once in a blue moon.

In both examples, it would be interesting to have a way to see an archive of a member's past Avatars. Take mine for example, I use a Mandalorian (Boba Fett's) helmet. I have had three or four variations of the helmet since joining. It would be neat to see that progression, and possibly a chance to revert back to any of my vintage avatars.

That being said, sometimes conversations pop up over some people's avatars, then the person changes it for some reason or another, and poof the conversation left behind doesn't make sense. Imagine the comment "Wow, that's the best avatar ever!" And then imagine, they switch the avatar, a month down the road to a CareBear. You read the comment, and think, "Hey that avatar sucks, what are they talking about, you can click on their legacy avatars and see that they did, at some point have some really cool avatars.

Only foreseeable con: Size of growing image archive.
Cheers!

Life is hurdling at me a volley of challenges at the moment, but nothing that a smile, a stiff upper lip and time wont sort out.

Thanks, for the fix, I was going through a bunch of videos with my brother-in-law the other night. He's deaf and watching videos and laughing is a great way to pass time. I was surprised how many of the old videos I went looking for were dead.

I'm assuming you're from the US, so with that Have a great long weekend. I'm back to work this morning after the Canadian long weekend. It will be a long month but looking forward to another long weekend in four weeks (BC Day - Aug 1st)

Cheers!

Edit, OK, egg on my face, I see you are from Canada. I don't think I ever realized that. I just assume everyone is from the US unless something makes them stand out as otherwise. So in turn, I hope you had a great weekend, as you are most likely back to work this morning as well..

Thanks,

It's strange, I remember learning evolution around grade three and then it was just always a given from there out.

I always hit patches of religion when I grew up, mainly when I went to Grandma's house but it was always something other people were in to and no one ever preached it. It's the type of thing that is there but each to their own.

I believed in Christin religion the same way I believed in anything. (Narnia, LOTR, Greek Myth, Star Wars, etc.) Every set of stories had their cast of players but non of it was ever taken more than the fiction it was. And no one ever argued or pushed their views - no debates.

Which is why I find it so bizarre that people even can conceive of putting creationism above scientific fact like it is equal on the same scale of reality. People are blurring the lines of fiction vs. reality and I truly don't understand it.

Sage,

Hey i saw your post and wanted to clarify... from at least my perspective. I'm a recent grad and am from a state where this is most certainly an issue.

It is my understanding and personal experience that evolution is part of the curriculum in all biology courses in public school (barring minority exceptions).

The debate seems more focused around it being the only 'theory' taught. In many states folks would like to see competing 'theories' added to the curriculum, most notably 'creationism'.

Again... only my experience... i'd be willing to ask friends from other parts of the country now that i'm at university... but i really do suspect that they would have similar experiences.

In reply to this comment by Sagemind:
So what I'm hearing here is Evolution isn't taught in many US High schools (??)

I'd like to try something, everyone answer these two questions.

Question One: Were you taught evolution in school?
Question Two: Which one do you sway towards? Evolution or Creationism
