Poor man's Zamboni

Not sure quite exactly what you're referring to.

If you're talking about the fact that there's entertainment (i.e. the kiss-cam in question) it's because unlike most non-american sports, we have breaks in ours. Baseball has innings, so during the change between players at bat / players on the field, they'll go to a commercial break on t.v., but if you're actually in the park they typically try to bring out a "Quick Cleaning" crew to watch, or the mascot will dance or something

Same thing for football, except footballs entertainment is basically cheerleaders and the half time show.

Hockey, however, has 3 periods, at the end of each they bring out the Zamboni to clean the ice, making entertainment on the ice itself impossible, so they do things with the jumbo-cam, like the kiss-cam, to keep people entertained until the next period starts.

How do they get the zamboni out there?

I was surprised to see they leave the ice under there, although in hindsight, it makes sense. It takes FOREVER to set up an ice sheet. Keeps the b-ball players feet cool too!

What Winnipeg has over Ottawa, other than the warming huts is the Zamboni. Ottawa canal ice is very bad.

Not wanting to look like a chump here, but assuming this machine isn't either powered by fossil fuels or an independant power scource (i.e. battery).......... Didn't it ummmm cross anybody's mind to just UNPLUG the damn thing?
The white bit on the top of the concrete finishing machine is the fuel tank.


(Also, it bugs me just slightly that they call it a Zamboni at the beginning.)

I'd be more impressed overall if those bumpers worked the way the little Zamboni shaped thing works.

umm, yeah. I was looking for pictures of a zamboni for my kid when I came across this. WTF ?

Heh my buddy zamboni's (is that a word?) for the world arena in Colorado Springs here where that happened. He said there is nothing like having 40 ESPN camera's taping you on broadcast TV while you make eight passes over the ice just to get the blood off.
