Jon Stewart Calls Out The Media Regarding Trump

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Jon's voice on his show was created by a process and team of particular writers, including him. That might be what you're detecting. I remember during ther writer's strike several years ago - those episodes were very weird and goofy.

You are gonna hate me now, but I grew up reading Dean Koontz and Stephen King years before the librarian at my middle suggested Lovecraft, so 12? My first Stephen King was Night Shift, with the eye in the middle of a mummified hand; Jerusalem's Lot ruined my ability to sleep. For some strange reason Lovecraft comforted me but King disturbed me lol -- My first Lovecraft reading was The Festival.

Anyway, it's my mom's fault, i jus read whatever she had lying around the house, which also included Mary Higgins Clark, Robert Ludlum, Danielle Steel, Michael Crichton, and who even knows what else.

Totally agree in having absorbed the material rather than fully understood. I mean shit, how does a 4th grader even under The Rising Sun? It's just shocking and strange. Like d3coding a new language.

I also read a lot of young adult thriller suspense books, notably Alfred Hitchcock's young readers books and short story collections. Ray Bradbury collections, random Asimov Foundation books, and old copies of Analog, that my dad would buy from local library sales. (Thas how poor people shop for books hahaha) He was the old school scifi guy, but not at all into horror.

I suppose I don't mind hacks. Reading the letters of Oscar Wilde changed my opinions on EVERYTHING. If Wilde belongs to the criminal class or what Danny Devito's character Frank terms the "Fringe" class, there must be some saving grace even in the intellectual crime of the hack writer.

that was awesome.
i hope del toro gets to make "mountains of madness",because i love the imagery he used in hellboy, which was VERY lovecraftian.

i stumbled upon lovecraft from my dad,and by accident.
my dad had a ton of the those sci-fi,horror pulp magazines from the 40's and 50's in the basement.

i think i was around 9 or 10 and my dad had given me the job of clearing out the basement, because he was going to remodel it..and i remember coming across this old,and dusty cardboard box filled with those books.

i spent the entire afternoon reading..and reading..and reading.
and it was lovecraft that i fell in love with, although at my young age he was not an easy read.you have to absorb lovecraft rather than actually read him.

this was the weekend i also discovered isaac asimov, ray bradbury, fred saberhagen and jack l chalker.

so i fell in love with lovecraft before stephen king.

and then my big sister tried to introduce me to dean r koontz.
and well..fuck dean r koontz, fucking hack and plagiarist.

seriously..fuck dean r koontz.

the lie that is the liberal politician-chris hedges

@Janus
you are not alone, many here on the sift tend to lean in your direction, however,i find this to be misplaced skepticism.

when it comes to russian internal policies, and actions abroad i tend to agree with the assertion that RT leans towards russian state "message of the day".similar to how CNN,MSNBC and FOX play that game.

but when it comes to being critical of the USA,and considering just who chris hedges is as a journalist and writer.i find the criticism un-warranted.

that is just my opinion, you are free to disagree of course.

though i would like to point out that many media outlets that have produced fantastic content, with exceptional journalists, are under siege.TeLeSUR and aljazeera english are in the crapper due to funding, and small, independent outlets are also struggling to compete with the megalithic corporate media to bring critical analysis in these dangerous times.

so while i agree that a venue such as RT should be approached with a modicum of skepticism,i also feel very strongly that we should not throw the baby out with the bath water.

chris hedges has been a extremely vocal critic of power, corruption and the devastating affects of neoliberalism.pulitzer prize winning author and journalist.

so while this may be on on RT,it is chris hedges that has credit with me.he has proven to be a man of integrity.

Honest Trailers - John Wick

poolcleaner says...

Couldn't agree more! The writer is pretty fresh and the director(s) are stunt guys. Beyond that, I don't know much about the production, but both John Wick and John Wick 2 are precise and well choreographed gunfu with elements of the Matrix/Indigo Prophecy, Hitman, Assassin's Creed, Bruce Lee movies, and on and on. Star power, as well.

I have Jack Reacher (same writer as Usual Suspects), John Wick, Collateral (Michael Mann), and Jason Bourne in the same stack.

In 2002, when I was studying film I had a chance to listen to Doug Liman, the director of The Bourne Identity talk about the making of the film. He hadn't really done much at the time, but now he's in the thick of these highly stylized, star powered, accurate (bullet count, stunts, etc.) Action flicks.

I am a fan of well-made films, and both John Wick and Jack Reacher (released around the same time, similar premise) seemed like really solid work. I was actually excited they both got sequels.

Yup, that's exactly how ads should be.

If your product is better or offers unique benefits, then by all means tell us; but don't tell some almost entirely unrelated story about some kid who stayed up all night wrapping presents for his mum because GIVE US YOUR MONEY.

If, on the other hand, you do want to convey a message or story - become a writer, filmmaker, painter, poet.

Good post. I've always been interested in the history of WWII, I'm re-reading Ken Burns' "The War" these days. The best book I have read is David Webster's "Parachute Infantry", he was a good writer who was there at the Normandy and Market Garden airdrops and also did Germany occupation duty. They did him a real disservice in the "Band of Brothers" episode "The Last Patrol", they made him out to be a weasel when he was anything but.

The Video That Never Stops Giving

kceaton1 says...

I was also quite perplexed by this seemingly, "non-addressed", issue the director (and if he's also the writer) decided to bring up. Is he saying, then, that men are just dicks?

I will not touch the woman segment, otherwise, I will also be put into the same segment of people the director now sits within... Being a hack and all (and a single tear, which looked forced and put on just for : the video; did he need a machine for that? Is he a sociopath?)...

Anyway...
