A Look at Windows 8 - It's Almost not Terrible

HugeJerk says...

My first PC was MS-DOS 5, followed by Windows 3.1, Win95, Win98, Windows 2000, XP, Vista (I never had any issues with Vista), and now Win7. I won't be bothering with Win8 due to the UX. I would love some of the under-the-hood improvements, but it's not enough to outweigh the annoyances.

Looking forward to the new iPhone 3GS (Blog Entry by dag)

My now almost 3-year old Hewlett Packard IpaQ has admirably performed every one of those 'pros' you mentioned since day one - except for the VS 4.0 integration, of course. Didn't ever need a patch or anything, could always copy and paste, had both button and on-touch-screen keyboards, took pics and video, as well as played back various video and audio formats on Windows Mobile (I used to watch episodes of TV shows I download legally obtained via the internets when commuting as well as frequently listened to streaming internet radio).

Not to mention it had Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, EDGE&3G, a memory-card slot, MS Office apps and powerpoint capability, etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum. Hell, I even installed and successfully played the first Age of Empires game (originally for Win95) on it. AND, at time of purchase it cost fairly less than iPhone did when it was first introduced here.

Which is why I'm still maintaining (and probably always will be) that iPhone sucks much balls.

Privateer 2 Intro Pt1, or Clive Owen before he was famous

The system requirements weren't high, it was a DOS game lol. Why a software company would code a major release title for DOS after win95 was released is beyond me. It received poor ratings because of dated technology and how buggy the game was occasionally. I remember playing this game back in my early teens, it was pretty memorable I enjoyed it despite it's flaws.

Oh I think they released a gold version of the game later that ran under windows.

Microsoft Computer Prank ... A Desktop to Remember!

Art says...

He missed a few things, such as hiding the taskbar so the start menu is also gone. Also edit out one of the icons and make a real one to replace it and make it a shortcut to "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00" or you can set all the shortcuts with this, just make sure to set the icon to that of the original. The shortcut to win95-98 is to rundll32.exe but I cant remember the flags to make it shutdown.

Now that will make people crazy. "My computer box shuts down when I go to the internet and nothing else works!!"

UFO: Enemy Unknown ( X-COM ) - intro movie

Fletch says...

I've got UFO:Extraterrestrials. IMHO, it's way better than any X-Com game since TFTD. It's got some quirks, but there is an a mod out there called "Bman's UFO Ease of Use Mod" that makes the game play very nicely and very close to the two originals. I still fire up EU and TFTD on occasion. There is a Win95 fix out there that makes them playable on today's systems. Great games.
