Why I Turned Down The Matrix | STORYTIME

lucky760 says...

That is a phenomenal first-hand story and well told.

HOWEVER

I am totally buying what he retold what the Watchowskis were selling him. That sounded awesome. He clearly wasn't the right audience for that kind of talk.

I also like that he says he did us all a favor. Thank you, Will.

Maybe he'll star in the remake the studio is working on (without the Wachowskis). I know no details about that one and can only assume it's going to pale in comparison to the original.

The problem with actions movies today

Shayde says...

I wonder if there's a correlation to age. Some of the notable action movie failures are ones made by directors that have also made notable good action movies; George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, The Wachowskis. The difference is the not-so-good movies were made when the directors were older.

A couple of my favourite authors also went this way. Their earliest books were great reads, their later offerings less so, as if they lost touch with what made their earlier works so good.

I guess sometimes wisdom does not always mean better.

Maybe I'm just jaded... but I don't see anything that interesting here. It looks pretty, but what doesn't these days?

I'm glad the trailer doesn't outline the whole plot, but this is the other extreme. There's no hook here. What's the concept?

Prometheus, for all it's flaws, had a great concept. It was just let down by lousy writing and characters. (when you're watching an Alien movie and you're routing for the xenomorphs, the writers have fucked up).

This? As @rebuilder said, a space queen?

I hope I'm wrong. I hope the Wachowskis can still do something amazing.

Jupiter Ascending -- new film from Andy and Lana Wachowski

RedSky says...

The Wachowskis have a pretty mixed track record. Since this gives barely a hint of a plot I might wait for reviews.

Got burnt by Prometheus, so I'm not trusting any more movies based purely by specky sci-fi and an intriguing concept.

Slavoj Zizek on They Live (The Pervert's Guide to Ideology)

enoch says...

@Babymech

ok.let us examine your counterpoints.

1.yeah.i agree.i never saw him as anybody but roddy piper.
2.agreed.while long,it does wear the banner of awesome.zizek may possibly be guilty of over-analyzing,but his comparisons bear some consideration.i find them to be justified.
3.this point you make is an exercise in circular logic and actually makes zizecks point.
where do you get your ideology from?
do you even have an ideology?
what makes you so certain of your ideology?
it is the question that is the real truth.
4.dont really understand your outrage here.sarcasm?
zizeck is exercising the pedagogy of philosophy.
referencing the matrix and pointing out that the wachowski brothers were not the first ones to create a movie with heavy philosophical tones.
john carpenter did it in the 80's with "they live".
and the philosophy of both movies is not exactly new.unless you consider 150 years to be "new".

maybe you disagree with the questions?
or are uncomfortable with the answers?
seem awfully defensive about people asking questions.

What if Star Wars Episode II Were Good? (Belated Media)

probie says...

Ultimately, the story told in the first three movies was OK; it was just poorly executed. Some things were done right, but a LOT was done wrong.

I'd like to see this guys take on the Matrix trilogy, because I had a fantastic story written for the last two in my head before I saw what the Wachowski's churned out. Oh well...

Yes, Bound was a very good movie. Had a lot of the same shooting style as the Matrix.>> ^AeroMechanical:

I thought Bound was pretty good, though it's been a while since I've seen it.

>> ^ponceleon:
So the Wachowskis made one decent movie (the Matrix) which they got accused of plagiarizing and since then have done utter crap. This trailer looks interesting, but I'm going in skeptical...
Edit: Anyone see The Fountain? This kind of reminds me of that, only a LOT more convoluted...
