Victor Frankenstein Official Trailer

RFlagg says...

So they release two different trailers for the same movie on the same day? *related=http://videosift.com/video/Victor-Frankenstein-Official-Trailer and they do seem to be slightly different beyond just the intro in this one.

Gaza: Why is no-one rebuilding it? BBC News

Stormsinger says...

I see this from a somewhat different angle. If the victor spends decades looting and abusing the losing side, they really cannot be surprised that their victims continue to struggle. Consider the results of WW1, and how the vicious restrictions imposed on Germany led directly to WW2. That's what Israel has been repeating.

It's a stupid, counterproductive strategy, and they've lost my support for good.

Jerykk said:

There comes a point where you just need to swallow your pride and accept defeat. Hamas is never going to win a war against Israel. Their continued efforts have achieved nothing but the destruction of their own country and the people within. Politics and religion are not worth the death toll.

Now, someone is inevitably going to rant about sovereignty and freedom and all that. Tell me... should Germany have continued fighting after the fall of Berlin? Should Japan have continued fighting after Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Should Native Americans be launching rockets and bombing government buildings? No. You accept defeat and start taking the road to recovery.

Quick Quack Car Wash

oritteropo says...

There are two possible reasons. Firstly, they might just freeze. Secondly, if they actually think they're hitting the brake pedal, then the way to stop is to hit it harder, right? In either case, the car isn't doing what they expected and it takes time to work out why.

For a non-car example of someone just freezing up under pressure, see http://videosift.com/video/Accidental-take-off-of-Victor-Bob-Prothero-explains - the ground engineer drafted in to man the throttles didn't do so well under pressure.

I was quite sure I'd upvoted this already... oh well, upvoting now.

I don't understand how people can do something like this. I mean I can see potentially hitting the wrong pedal but why would you keep your foot on it after it is extremely apparent you are pressing the wrong one?

Kangaroo eating a penguin on the beach

oritteropo says...

There are certainly penguins on the south coast of Australia, most famously their nesting spots Victor Harbour - http://www.tourismvictorharbor.com.au/whales_penguins.html and Phillip Island - http://www.penguins.org.au/

Their actual range goes at least as far north as New South Wales, but not quite southern Queensland (where Rustic Pathways are based).

BoneRemake said:

Honestly I would like some back ground information.. not only for myself but for those that also are wondering why a penguin is on sand... on tropical water.. oh and the fact someone said it is a penguin. Oh they also said it was being eated by a known being known for the dawwnunder scenario.. or africa etc. but really ??? an actual penguin .. Source ?

put this info in the info spot because it seems bs to all those that watch it, why would some one upvote this thinking... blach I will leave it at that, I have a bunny running around my living room for the first time. holy shitfuck do they move fast in open spaces. and so effin darn curious. I mean.. they are snow boots, OOOOoO I will turn them on their side so he can go in them.. a gave of feet smell. ]

Sorry for the rant, no one else around but a certain small thinger to listen to my blah blah blah.

Stephen Colbert: Super Reagan

bmacs27 says...

Are you being pedantic for any good reason? Hyperbole can be useful. The fact is, we don't fully know the extent of atrocities committed by American Empire. As you know, history is written by the victors. What little we do know suggests we could be the worst global offenders over the last 30 years. We imprison our citizens at a higher rate than any other nation. We engage in more wars, and have clandestine involvement in still more (estimates vary, but on the high end the figures are staggering). We provide the means of oppression to brutal despots to retain trade advantages. We manipulate the global economy, potentially starving millions, just to collect on our loans. We rationalize the torture of our enemies. We treat sovereignty like a worry for lesser nations. We shred our own constitution, while suggesting it as a blueprint for others to follow. I mean... what do you want? A fucking bar chart? These aren't trading cards. You can't just flip over your ballot to look at their moral batting average.

@cosmovitelli, I'm still not seeing any hard facts from you. Yes, those are all awful things, but you are alleging that these people are demonstrably worse than Hitler (systematically killed at least 6 million Jews, arguably responsible for the largest conflict the world has ever seen), Stalin (murdered, tortured and deported .... well, no-one knows, but estimates range from 3 to 60 million) and Genghis Khan (killed a sizeable percentage of the worlds population at the time).

Also, you are aggregating the acts of every US president since Truman vs the acts of 3 individuals.

That's an extraordinary claim, and I think you need to provide some facts and figures to back it up.

A Bear and a Monkey Race on Bicycles - Then Bear eats Monkey

To the victor go the spoils.
No, seriously, this was horrible. I'm sure the little girl in the front row, the surviving monkey, and perhaps the toothless, de-clawed but still deadly bear would agree.

Can Money Buy Happiness?

SDGundamX says...

I dunno, I think they're playing with meanings here. We use the word "happiness" to describe two very different things: 1) an emotion of well-being (which is always temporary) and 2) a general sense of fulfillment or satisfaction with one's life (which could be quite stable).

So yeah, money used in the way shown here can buy the 1st meaning of happiness but I don't think it's necessary for the 2nd (although it might help). For instance, Victor Frankl was able to find the 2nd meaning of happiness even while suffering at the hands of Nazi's in a concentration camp--he found things like the love for his wife, his work as a doctor, his camaraderie with his fellow prisoners meaningful enough to overcome the dark circumstances which he was surrounded by.

Ultimately I think it is we who are responsible for transcending our circumstances and environments (whether those be affluent or otherwise ) and creating our own happiness. But I do think the video does show us one way we can start down that path (i.e. by thinking of others and not just ourselves).

President Obama: We Have Fewer Horses and Bayonets

deedub81 says...

If only zingers could sway the polls - After last night's debate "more Americans want to see [Romney's] promises filled (49%), believe [he] will be better able to prevent Islamic radicalization (43%) and hold China accountable (48%), and protect Israel (48%)."

As for Obama, "...American's were much more likely to ascribe the terms 'hostile', 'defensive', 'immature', and 'negative'. Outside of the (fairly inevitable) ascription of "old" to Romney, the words used for Romney are much more positive: 'right', and 'friendly'."

All this from a poll of "968 Americans (results) completed in the hour after the third and final 2012 Presidential debates, Obama comes out as the clear victor with 49% of Americans viewing him as the winner."

I'm guessing there is a 20% auction fee which would put the sale at $1.8 mil.
>> ^gwiz665:
Was only $1.5 mil.

Wrong direction. Seller pays the fee, so Big LT gets $1.3 Million.
Barely worth the effort IMHO.

☛ Silent Shadow of the Bat-Man ☚ Complete

chingalera says...

I thought the following factoid was cool as shit~

"Bill Finger and I created the Joker. Bill was the writer. Jerry Robinson came to me with a playing card of the Joker. That's the way I sum it up. [The Joker] looks like Conrad Veidt — you know, the actor in The Man Who Laughs, [the 1928 movie based on the novel] by Victor Hugo. [...] Bill Finger had a book with a photograph of Conrad Veidt and showed it to me and said, 'Here's the Joker'. Jerry Robinson had absolutely nothing to do with it, but he'll always say he created it till he dies. He brought in a playing card, which we used for a couple of issues for him [the Joker] to use as his playing card" ~ Bob Kane Interviewed by Frank Lovece for Entertainment Weekly, 1994. Perkowski grabbed the footage from that very flick to create his joker character for this nod to the caped crusader.
