Yeah, the very end of the post you referenced I came to the realization that it was Meyers who took from the Stackhouse novels. Pretty crazy how she blatantly took so much material and exploded with it.

Since the story is taken strait from a novel that was written about 7 years before the first Twilight novel, you must realize that it is Twilight that ripped off The Sookie Stackhouse Series, not vice versa. Whether the movie came out before the TV show began is irrelevant.

Hush and Once More With Feeling spring to mind. Although, comparing True Blood and teh Whedon smacks of heresy.

The difference between Twilight and True Blood is huge. Twilight takes itself so seriously. True Blood always has a little bit of tongue in cheek added to it. This clip is proof of that.

Like many of you, I'm sick of the whole Vampire craze Hollywood has been going through lately. But as I've been telling my friends when I try to encourage them to watch it. I describe the show as a "R-Rated Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Buffy the Vampire Slayer may have had Vampires in it...but it really wasn't about Vampires, hell a lot of times it wasn't even about Buffy. It was just damned good fun.

Yeah, some of the story of the first series is similar, but the way the stories are presented is totally different. Twilight is just a whiny teen story whereas True Blood is much more mature.
The second series with the Dionysus inspired storyline is altogether different from Twilight. We are now at the point in the series where Sookie's mind reading powers are about to be explained.

So couple average acting with an above average storyline, in a popular genre and you have a hit show. I like it, and the vampires dont sparkle in the fucking sun.


Yeah, well, I was talking about a show as a whole, and I wouldn't say there is that many "good" actors on it. You can actually hear some of their accents go in and out while they're talking. As a story I just personally find it relatively predictable from the episodes that I watched (which are not many, as my roommate was the one into the show and not me).

Obviously my opinion is the minority, but it's still there, stomping it's feet, demanding higher quality television. Food for the sheep, I say.

Vampire has to go away for a while, asks a rival mystical being to protect her, the girl is heartbroken, and the other guy is there to comfort her and she starts to see him as a love interest as well. Hmmm... That also sounds painfully familiar! Both stories even share exact same lines of dialogue.
I understand that this is a very very broad overview, but I could honestly go on and on about the blatant similarities between the two popular vampire stories. One has a TON of filler side-stories about politics and other character development. But then again, True Blood also runs at almost 13 hours of airtime a season, so it has a lot more time to kill.

I'm sure as the True Blood series goes on, it probably gets more original, but the main plots of both stories are pretty much the exact same (again, speaking only for the first season of True Blood). I don't know which book was written first, but somebody ripped somebody off.

EDIT: Reading a comment above, the True Blood books came first. Okay, so Meyers stole from True Blood, then.

While soft core porn is perhaps leaning in the right direction. You must take into account that it is on HBO and 'all' of their shows could qualify as soft core porn.

And as to twilight wanna be. You do know it is based upon a series of novels written starting in 2001, where as the twilight series began about 7 years later (according to Wiki, I cannot stand those movies so I'm sure I'd dislike the books.) The vampires of True Blood are much more traditional in their attitudes, ambitions and for many, their attitude towards humanity. And above all, they certainly don't twinkle in the sunlight, they cook.

True Blood is absolutely worth watching, all three seasons. It's well acted and well written and each episode is compelling and almost always end like this, just making you beyond eager for the next episode.

That said, season 3 is incredible so far and with only three episodes left I cannot wait to see what happens. I am very happy to see how solid Season 3 has been so far, season 2 was not quite so stellar and wasn't as good as the first, but still very much worth watching.

The big appeal of the X-Men comics is what's usually called "Mutants as a metaphor". Themes of discrimination, isolation, hatred, fear of the unknown, confusion and misunderstanding are all undercurrents of the X-Men story lines. These reflect the real-world tribulations, past and present, of blacks, gays, women, Jews, atheists, pagans and even the average ostracized teenager.

Without ever seeing True Blood, it's pretty obvious that this is "Vampires as a metaphor" and it's probably safe to say that explains its appeal.

I think True Blood takes the crown when it comes to episode endings. They are AWESOME!
