Antihydrogen produced and trapped at CERN

GeeSussFreeK says...

From wiki:

The reaction of 1 kg of antimatter with 1 kg of matter would produce 1.8×10^17 J (180 petajoules) of energy (by the mass-energy equivalence formula E = mc²), or the rough equivalent of 43 megatons of TNT.

Minecraft Is Just Awesome

Shepppard says...

Ahh, I finally took the minecraft plunge, and it really is rediculously awesome. The best way everybody (myself included) can really describe it, is "Lego for big kids"

I have a group of 4 friends who all play, aswell, on the same server. One's built a giant tree made out of nothing but trees (To which I added waterfalls to gush from the sides). One made a giant statue (that looks amazing) kneeling over with arms outstretched, and placed in its palms is a giant cube of TnT.

The third has made a giant temple in the side of a mountain, and I'm currently developing an underground canal system linking all of them together.

Honestly, I've spent more time planning this canal then I have anything else recently. Every entrance contains a treasure chest full of boats, take one, drop it off at your exit. The canal goes under lakes and between mountains, so when available (between mountains or even under the water) I build the canal with glass walls/ceiling/floor so you can look around as you travel.

I want to chime in and emphasize: This is game is FUN!

Built an old-style rumanian draculesque mansion last night together with three friends. Had huge fun mining the resources for it. I stole my buddies gold when he yelled "Eureka!" and made a helmet out of it so he would always remember my theft whenever looking at me.

The pressure plate zombie mine is a FANTASTIC idea. Will try it, too! I have plans for some wheat fields right now, my engineering skills are lacking unlike your son's.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Not just clever marketing. This game is really something special. My whole family is in love with it at the moment.

It is hard to explain what makes it awesome, especially since the graphics are so shit - let me try:

  • The Sandbox nature is not unique to gaming by any means, but it's the few gameplay elements that do exist that make things fun in the sandbox.
If you are trapped outside as night falls, you'll find yourself frantically digging a hole in the dirt trying to get any kind of shelter before total darkness falls - it's damn scary - if you get into it.
Light a fire while you are standing too close to it, and you will light yourself on fire and burn 'till you die

  • Although these aren't the physics of our world - a kind of physics does exist. Gravel and Sand have gravity, trees can be chopped down, etc.
  • The Lego factor, while I don't think trumps the exploration factor - is still great. It's easy and fun to build amazing structures - with a large amount of complexity:

This is one of those, "Say one thing but do another," situations.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_the_United_States#Accidents

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W87

The one consider that one Minuteman III missile can carry up to 12 of those W87 warheads, which were originally meant for the Peacekeeper Missile system. The W87 does about 400 KT of damage. According to the Ground Zero Map http://www.carloslabs.com/projects/200712B/GroundZero.html that can be, roughly, a radius of 6.5 miles of damage in all directions from the epicenter. Now the Minuteman can carry 12 400 KT warheads. Math? Heh, that's a 4800 Kilotons per Minuteman or 4.8 Megatons. How many Minutemen does the US have in stockpile, after SORT? 1,050 land based ICBMs. More math?

    1,050 Land Base Nuclear Devices
    12 Warheads per device
    400 KT per Warhead

Total warheads per weapon 12,600. Did I mention that those warheads can be guided to different targets? That's, roughly, 5.04 Gigatons of TNT. Those are just the land based missile systems. That's not counting the Airborne nukes, or the Ohio Class Nuclear subs.

5.04 Giga, fuck, tons of TNT. When they say they are getting rid of their nukes, I chortle.

My numbers may be off I'm by no means an expert, also note that I would assume all 1,050 Minuteman ICBMs cannot be launched at the same time. I just really like large numbers and who gets to write Giga fuck tons of TNT every day?

All thats "right" in one network?

    longde says...

They could be trying to build upon the success of the Fox News Network, but I think that the entertainment tastes of that demographic could already be fulfilled by USA and TNT. I mean, there are only so many hours of Murder She Wrote and Matlock episodes to show.>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

It's not from the 'Left' so it's terrible?
From the channel: Videos of terrible, awful What-Were-They-Thinking commercial/pop-culture products/releases. Terrible music videos, movies, TV show clips, toys, etc. Things that some corporate exec decided to actually give a green light. The sorts of things that you watch, and think "SOMEBODY should have known better that to release that". The stuff that's so bad, you can't help but share.

Washed up sitcom personality pimps a network which intends to broadcast original programming based on the partisan politics of the republican party? That's textbook terrible. I'm surprised you don't agree.
Check out the promos on the channel, which include republican reality shows, republican comedy showcases and another show where republicans play poker. It's a goldmine of fail

Saturday morning cartoons taught you collectivism! (Politics Talk Post)

    choggie says...

^NR-At the core of your own "root ethics" is herd mentality having been spoon fed you through media, society affected by the indoctrination and mind control of the same, and your own individualistic ideals filtered through a collective ideal which is in actuality, an illusion created by those well-versed in controlling large numbers of people-My observations being based solely on your contributions to the sift, and your faith in a system of control and brainwash which used to be something fundamentally different in the early days of it's inception-
Group-think as described here by BF in the D&D cartoon example is part of every cartoon show, every public school classroom, every pep-rally or political event disguised as the same. People in the US have been systematically indoctrinated for years on time-honored models of mass mind control used by the best of the worst regimes throughout time immemorial to amass and concentrate wealth and secure empire. History does, is, and will repeat itself because humans are incredibly predictable. The fantasy created by the machine continues to strip away individualism from the masses as the same become increasingly less educated and subdued by creature comforts and endless mundane and unfulfilled toil-Reality checks become more and more difficult as the mind becomes more saturated with the illusion they create.

Eugenics has become more covert and insidious and mind control more palatable as endless diversion, manipulation of facts, and the systematic dumbing-down of an entire nation continues.

Bring back mallets to the head and TNT-back in the old days, cartoons were part of a special trip to the cinema and the only thing they were trying hard to sell was popcorn, candy, and a cool place to chill out in....well, sort of-Looking back on the early days of media manipulation and mind-control, the tactics look remedial compared to today, to the un-schooled eye.

Saturday morning cartoons taught you collectivism! (Politics Talk Post)

    choggie says...

The socio-genetic experiment has worked well-Gone are the days of bashing people over thehead with mallets and blowing them up with TNT-I watched Sesame Street for the musical numbers-The best cartoons were ones with no message whatsoever rather, the renderings and animation always held preeminence over the scripting. Mornings before public school programming were spent with the 3 stooges and Bugs, Woody Woodpecker and re-runs of Twilight zone and Outer Limits at night...

I grew up listening to music more that suckling of of the cathode ray nipple-Lot's of Zappa, obscure garage bands, and selective pop. Television was clear as a fucking bell to me- An insidious programming glow for those whose minds were already forming into a mass of putty easily manipulated and influenced to do the bidding of the advertisers, financiers, and criminal politicians bent on turning everyone into easily managed robots.(I did watch every Charlie's Angels episode each week, and had posters of all of em, on the wall opposite the black light posters!)

Fast-forward to the now and it would seem that the shit worked better than expected. The last couple of generations are as gullible and susceptible as ever to the machine.

Art, music, performance, and the artisan trades are dying-the third-world is polluting the first(by design), and regurgitated, hackneyed scripts have replaced what was once a higher more inspired art.

More power to ya BF, as you do battle in the exclusive arena you have chosen....The passion is what is important.
