Homeless Man Playing Piano for Tips

first look-black mass-official trailer-johnny depp

dannym3141 says...

It has a character in it played (expertly) by joe pesci that is a volatile psychopath who likes to tease people into thinking he's lost his rag. So you get a lot of stand-off type situations where you just don't know whether the guy is joking or not, and even if he is joking you don't know if he's going to kill them as part of the joke.

I think the point being that there are classic, seminal films that have similar plot devices in, so it doesn't mean this film will suck. However, johnny depp is not joe pesci and this is not goodfellas.

I also recommend you to watch that film if you haven't.

You would be correct, aside from being another mob film I would not understand it's relevance here.

Kitty to the rescue!

I think that the noise being picked up by the recorder makes it sound a lot worse than what it is. In my opinion, he's only really patting next to the baby.

Would it not be fair to say that clapping is a roughly equivalent action? And i see people doing that near babies all the time without someone worrying about affecting the kid's mental state as it grows up, or worrying if the kid perceives the clapping of hands as a threat or worry.

If babies are too young to understand, then they may misunderstand clapping? Or alternatively how are they to understand the waving of someone's hand nearby to be aggressive? Especially given that it appears to be a comfortable family unit.

Most importantly, can we please consider that the baby was slapping its own leg? Perhaps one day the baby slapped its hand about, the father did the same thing, and the baby got enjoyment out of it? It slaps its hand about again at the end too. We don't know, we can't know, and it's very unfair to make so many casual assumptions - not just about his actions, but about what is normal for different people.

I'm concerned about the amount of assumptions being made in chastising this man. Especially when drawing a parallel to an anecdote about someone "growing up skittish" because of "teasing". Correlation, not necessarily causation.. and again, what evidence is this of teasing, and how is it fair to speculatively compare it to something stated so vaguely?

I'm sorry to be combative about it, but i feel this is a huge leap of imagination based on 30 seconds of video. A great many of us (if not all) could be made to look all kinds of contrary ways based on 30 second snippets, and it's an indelible brush that he's being hurriedly tarred with. I stand to be corrected, but i don't see any signs of distress either from the baby or the person recording, and the baby looks otherwise healthy and well provisioned. It was not placed in that seating with those accoutrements without care and attention. I think more harm than good can come of judging things like this, considering the subtlety of most *actual* abusers.

I agree with the cat. What the bloody hell is that guy doing, hitting so close to that baby?

Reminds me of a guy who used to "tease" his baby when it was young. I was horrified at the time, and sure enough, the kid grew up to look wary and skittish all the time.

Knock it off, mister. It isn't funny.

(Older kids LOVE to be teased, if done in a loving way. This baby is waaay too young to understand.)

Porn Actress Mercedes Carrera LOSES IT With Modern Feminists

curiousity jokingly says...

I'm a victim of pho. I'm a battered man that can't even look up Pho shops' signs in the eyes... mocking me.... teasing me.... taunting me.... Don't you think I wanted some fish and chips? I did, but I was shamed and force into getting pho. I starting to enjoy it. I've tried seeking help, but I can't find PA groups and no one will take me seriously. "Oh, you wanted that hot tasty soup in your mouth." I'm losing control of my life. I've starting learning how to sew so I make myself clothes so I can start dressing like a bowl of pho. I need help.

Pho is Vietnamese noodle soup.

...Or do you really want to talk about "Pho-victimhood getting more press & media coverage than actual victims" Talk about off topic...why are you obsessed with people being victimized by noodle soups?!?! I've never even heard of that being a problem.
I prefer to focus on the issue of battered women....and I keep it simple-flour, eggs, butter, and milk.

Granted the advice isn't applicable to all situations, take the details of Digitalfiend's case for example, hence I didn't comment on that case (I had no advice, and I did consider it for a while. "Teach your dog not to play" wasn't a notion I was willing to back).
In light of the new info provided I state a disclaimer, the preparation you can do is limited by your circumstances.
Seems you've done well enough, and the occurrences for concern have locational limitations with positively influential perpetrators.
If I had had that, I wouldn't have gotten my 2nd awesome happy dog.

We weren't experienced trainers, however we did have an advantage and took the opportunity to start the training the day we got him as a pup, oppose to having got him later in his life.

As for the level of training, he came when called if he wanted, he stopped barking when he wanted, and he tried eating my cat, because he wanted.
With exception to my teasing kitty, he didn't eat without a command and he was incredibly road smart, as these 2 things were necessary for his survival and the maintenance of his high quality of life.

@robbersdog49
Yes there's assumptions, as I don't know newtboy or the respective living conditions and hardships (but my knowledge has marginally increased today).
Any assumptions of normalcy brought forth from a lack of advised uncommon details, is merely reviewing the situation as it has been described. Would you argue that I should have imagined some unstated details and responded to those?

We all make upwards of 100,000's of assumptions a day. The seat your sitting in, did you check it for poisonous spiders before sitting? why not? Is it because there wasn't any last time and you had no reason to suspect otherwise?
Our brains are smarter than we commonly realise and they use cheat sheets (commonly manifested as assumptions) to get us through every moment of our lives.
Holding humans to their likelihood driven assumptions is a frail thing as it's often met with "oh, i didn't know".

Victim blaming? No, not quite.
Fact: you have a greater chance of controlling your pets, then you do strangers.
The point is little more than to focus on the area's that you can more greatly and reliably influence. To simplify it, it's to aim for the greatest reward with minimal resource (in this case, effort).

The rest of your comment is idealistic. You get no argument from me as I agree, and no realistically debatable point has been made. We don't live in a utopia and those whom acknowledge this while aiming for something, stand a better chance of gaining a modicum of their interests.

"it would be good if people were good". Yes. Would. If. One day

Mess With The Cat, Get The Fangs (And Claws)

dannym3141 says...

I've never had a cat, i don't want to be a jerk and i don't want to encourage people to mistreat pets (obviously). So with that said, why is everyone being so harsh to the guy? They played a bit, the cat goes for him and the guy is gentle with it despite the cat trying to hurt him (as he should be).

Are the noises it makes towards the end indicative of long term exposure to stress? I've seen videos with that same noise and no hatred to the owner. I know a lot of people with a lot of pets and many of them have little behaviours together that an outsider could easily think bad of, perhaps they play fight all the time but the cat for some reason hates the glove he bought it to play with. He doesn't look like a regular cat baiter and he isn't dressed like someone who expects slashing attacks to be coming limb-wards. The label is crisp and white and visible, i'm not sherlock holmes but i'd say they bought a new toy, the cat for some reason didn't like it, and they filmed the reaction which they didn't expect to go so badly. Otherwise they filmed and released one particular day in a string of abuse-filled days - and the cat won?

I don't see anything worse than someone using a little fluffy thing on a stick/string to tease a cat into chasing it and attacking it. That's all he did, but with the glove.. a little play fight, and the cat had an unusual reaction to the glove. People seem to think he's a bad guy and deserves savaging though, so could someone explain why? I'm just a bit shocked at the vitriol for him.

@artician - not just for grooming but for clawing at too which is why it looks a bit velcro-ish, so a cat person tells me. I was under the impression he was using it within the limits of its intended use.

10 Hours Of Walking In LA As A Woman

Trancecoach says...

Hm, in the original video, the woman gets "harassed" by blacks and latinos but there weren't enough white guys flirting with her (thereby angering many people on the left).

Here, however, there's a multicultural and a multigender aspect to the people flirting with and teasing (i.e., "harassing") the drag queen. I wonder how the social justice warrior liberals are going to try to spin this...
