Sure thing - it's a travesty that hasn't sifted yet. You know the old saying about million monkeys typing on a million typewriters? I think that's Videosift sometimes - the voting is basically random and every once in a while something of actual high quality gets sifted.

Thanks man!

LOL I feel ya. I just picked up bronze at my 4 year membership mark on account of my habitual lurking, but don't feel more privileged nor more highly visible. The cabal of top sifters have all the real influence.

Kill List Trailer -- Looks FRIGHTENING

Locque says...

Loved it. But yes, it's more surreal than the trailer would have you believe, but not to the the point of incomprehensible insanity. watch it though, it's... jarring.

WTF Japan - Pu Li Ru La

legacy0100 says...

Surrealism style was big in Japan I think. When Japan was at the height of its Imperial power, their ruling elites began collecting western art. And Western Art during the 1930s was Surrealism art, and Salvador Dali and all his wackiness.

So this odd formula of Being Fancy = western art = surrealism was established. I guess surrealism really made a huge impact on Japanese psyche that it never really went away. Perhaps the war-torn Japan of 1950s and 60s found solace in the dreamlike feel and disturbing images used in surrealist works. Now that I think about it, that sure describes what Japanese movies are like nowadays.

It also helped that Surrealism kept strong all the way up until the 1960s. So every time the Japanese checked on Western art, there was still Surrealist works to be found, so the odd formula stayed as well.

At least that's my theory.

Colbert on Stephanopoulos -- the whole thing

MilkmanDan says...

Everything about that was surreal...

First, before I got the actual video I was "treated" to an ad for stool softener, which came quite close to making me give up before the actual video started.

Then I tried to figure out if Stephanopoulos was actually as naive as he appeared in trying and struggling to give a "real" interview to a satirical "potential candidate", or if he was in on the satire and just good enough at acting to give even Colbert a run for his money. I'm not sure I could have a confident answer to that question even if I watched it a few more times...

Fratzengulasch

oritteropo says...

The closest I found to a translation was this little review:

Hamburg based Mense Reents (Die goldenen Zitronen, Egoexpress) and Jakobus Siebels (JaKönigJa) are Die Vögel (=The Birds). Their new track “Fratzengulasch” came out on Pampa Records, Dj Koze‘s label. Jakobus’ partner Ebba Durstewitz is singing “Ich hab’ mir ausgedacht, du wirst ein Vogel sein / Wir bauen uns ein Pferd aus Knochen und aus Stein”, something like “I thought that you will be a bird. / We are gonna make a horse out of bones and rocks”! Surreal lyrics that go with the surreal sound that goes with the surreal video. The video was directed by Katharina Duve and Timo Schierhorn and is, by all means, a must-watch, funny, but at the same time a bit spooky.

Taking into account:
1) the mic check <pop!>
2) the ever more surreal timeshifting
3) the Captain Obvious red circle
and
4) the anchorwoman smirk
This video is GOLD.

This didn't earn my upvote until the anchorwoman smirk.

My thought process:
5 seconds in: There's an asian, the title includes "surreal" and "octopus". I know where this is heading. Takes off pants.

13 seconds in: Mmmm.

38 seconds: getting impatient.

on to 2:30 ish: skipping ahead, skipping ahead

2:36: alright, here we go...

end: Well there was hardly any tentacle rape there. -_-
