Police continue to harass citizens who record them

Not crazy about corporate front group CATO, which is funded by the Scaife Foundation and Koch Industries, but blankfist really wants me to upvote this, so here goes, in the name of bromance.

Well, I do see how they're so evil with their anti-police-state yet somehow subliminal pro-corporatist message here. *rolls eyes*

I also wonder why @NetRunner hasn't voted for this? I guess he endorses police states.

WELL... if she's 100% with the NRA, then I guess that means she's automatically a super competent and honest politician!
Thank you GOP... Thank you for being so awesomely embarrassing.

I also love how at 15 seconds in, the guy describes her has a "pretty fair shot", just as they show her pretty face. Amazing subliminal messaging (although, yeah, she is somewhat attractive. I'm thinking Sarah Palin minus 15 years on her back, but with all the stupidity).

Arial Font is Bullshit

Trailer for Helvetica film posted here... http://www.videosift.com/video/Helvetica

>> ^Sagemind:
Arial is a crap font, it always was and always will be.
I'm sure the average person could care less - but for those of us that use fonts all day - and for a living - Arial truly is a sad example of a font.
- Arial is the default font Microsoft feeds to the public because they got it for free.
I have never found a place where Arial would be a better choice than something else.
Helvetica is by far a better font, but not always the right font for the job. It is however a better default font.
To those who are not typesetters, you have to realize that consideration (of font) goes into every design put forward on every piece of print media that is created. Every font sells a sentiment and an emotion. Fonts are used as a subliminal persuasive tool to emote a feeling for whatever the topic at hand is trying to convey.
Sometimes, a non-intrusive font is needed to contrast but not cancel out the stylized font you are using. Arial is ugly, while Helvetica is the "classic, perfect for everything, without inflicting the smallest bit of emotion" font. In never cancels out while always looks professional.

I have to give it up for Fox though, the amount of subliminal messages in the Jesus lover versus rabid liberal is amazing. Look at the detail:

The guy on the left has "Jesus", a cross, and the American flag clearly visible. Look at how he's seemingly being backed into a corner with less half the width of the shot and smiling.

Look at how he's backed by white and wearing white, whereas the liberal lady is wearing black and has presumably a dark railing in the background. Look at the other person in the background behind her, I would almost wager to say that because I can't even tell if it's a guy or a girl, they're hinting at them being lesbians to incense their conservative audience.

Have to give credit where credit is due, that is nothing short of brilliant in scope.

Saturday morning cartoons taught you collectivism! (Politics Talk Post)

Kreegath says...

Grownups read way too much into cartoons and put way too much stock in whatever hidden or subliminal message they perceive in them. These things are incredibly subjective, and I'm sure there are people who are lobbying against the evil propaganda put forth in the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, only that they see a completely different message. It might even be a directly contradictory one to this writer's. That's not to say there's no value in analyzing stuff like this, but there's a big difference between a discussion on the theoretical influences in a cartoon and the practical, real world effects on people who watch it.

But people tend to forget that kids don't perceive and experience things the same way as adults. Most themes and philosophical standpoints will go right over their heads; but for arguments sake, let's say that the cartoon was trying to teach collectivism to its viewers. It would have to be done much more obviously before a child would pick up on the message, more prevalent for that child to start associate the theme with reality and for a very long time before the behaviour is ingrained in their psyche. Just have a look at some real educational cartoons and how pedagogical they have to be in order to get a message across.

In reply to this comment by RadHazG:
anyone know the name of the... "effect" that causes the human mind to "hear" a particular phrase or word if the sound is at least close to it, and they are told ahead of time what it is they are supposed to hear? I've seen this same bull pulled with animals "talking" and I'm never very impressed. Naturally won't stop the right wing nut jobs from using it if they can get away with it. Hell, Fox already pulls blatant outright lies all the time, why not this.
