Amazing New Japanese Hanabi Fireworks

newtboy says...

Oh boo-hoo. Don’t have a hissy fit.

https://www.masterclass.com/articles/what-is-cgi#what-is-computergenerated-imagery

From above….
“ 4. Special effects: CGI can alter the color and intensity of light, changing the appearance of an actor’s face or body in a shot. It can also simulate environmental effects, like rain storms or cloudy skies. CGI can also age or de-age an actor in post-production.”

Are you the layman you speak of?

kir_mokum said:

ok, you're right. everything is CGI. i definitely don't know what i'm talking about. i defer to you, king of "mount stupid". long live the king.

"If the term is so meaningless, why argue against it?"
because it is the source of so much confusion and stupid opinions by laymen. see above.

World's First Floating City

newtboy says...

Call me after the first direct hit by a major monsoon.
Enough slack for tides means enough slack to bump into each other. This sounds great, but I don’t believe they’re ready for prime time. Even oil platforms sink in big storms, imagine if they had tens of thousands of people on them.
The Dutch do this better imo by making floating homes that ride up and down on poles…stationary except for up and down.

The $5BN Mega Resort in the Desert

newtboy says...

I hope this monument to opulence fails miserably and the developers lose their shirts.
There’s no way they won’t damage or destroy that reef.
The first big storm is going to destroy much of the sand island.
But, 10% are special protection zones! Won’t matter, they can’t survive if huge amounts of the non protected reef are destroyed.

Not to mention sea level rise will put it underwater quickly, it’s barely above current sea level in the plans.

Look at Mexico, dozens of comparatively tiny resorts not even on the reefs, but on land, and that reef is not 10% what it was in the mid 80’s. Building ON the reef is guaranteed to destroy it, as is tourism.

I hate when companies are allowed to build on natural wonders to exploit the beauty, they invariably destroy that beauty within decades. That entire reef/coastline should be off limits to construction so the two desert properties have an attraction. When the reefs die from sun tan lotion poisoning, bleaching, sand displacement, accidents with supply ships, the first major fuel spill, etc, that place will be a $5 billion waste, abandoned to the desert.

Remember the “islands of the world” project in Dubai? This sounds even less thought out than they were, more ecologically disastrous, needing more infrastructure to be built, requiring ships to bring fuel as there’s no nearby port to run pipelines from (guaranteeing oil spills). All for what? So billionaires can get off their yachts for a while in luxury?

Wiki-Significant changes in the maritime environment [of Dubai]. As a result of the dredging and redepositing of sand for the construction of the islands, the typically crystalline waters of the Persian Gulf at Dubai have become severely clouded with silt. Construction activity is damaging the marine habitat, burying coral reefs, oyster beds and subterranean fields of sea grass, threatening local marine species as well as other species dependent on them for food. Oyster beds have been covered in as much as two inches of sediment, while above the water, beaches are eroding with the disruption of natural currents.

That was a $12 billion project to exploit the pristine coast and beautiful waters that no longer exist, the islands themselves are sinking and eroding, most were evacuated or never used at all, the water is now mud colored, the reefs are gone. An unmitigated disaster. This sounds extremely similar.

Oppose this and similar projects.

There was no proof that the truck was spinning due to the storm, could have been alcohol involved. We don't know... Or maybe he was texting someone.

Just miles from my brother.
Poster has questions about driving towards a tornado that’s spinning a truck like a top, while I have questions about a truck having been flipped and spun like a top just driving off like nothing happened.
I think the answer to both questions is “Texas”. Their ability to ignore and deny the effects of climate change is simply incredible.

Zipline Delivery Drones Are Changing Medical Deliveries

newtboy says...

50 mile delivery radius (over flat terrain)
80mph max, 63mph cruise
4lb payload. I doubt there’s onboard cooling, but cool insulated boxes would be fine for maximum 45minute deliveries
Yes, weather is a factor…that’s why they’re setting up their own weather monitoring for higher resolution on local weather to fly around smaller systems and ground for big storms.

Uh oh....seems some of the traitors are claiming they acted on orders from the president, something they said that day, but these have evidence from weeks before saying the same thing, along with evidence of Trump's instigation, and messages in Dec telling others the plan is to storm the building and take out the trash right there.

Odd, since these claims and evidence don't excuse their actions one bit, but do implicate Bunker Baby directly.

Not looking so good for Trump's eventual defense. Felons can't be president. That should be modified to include frauds, thefts, and obstruction of justice, those crimes of moral turpitude should disqualify anyone guilty of them. Trump's an old hand at all three.

Cancer Patient’s Husband Has A Message For Anti Vaxers

luxintenebris says...

FL & TX account for 40% of all the new hospitalizations. Yet, they are against mask mandates. Against their fellow lawmakers, citizens, and school administrators who KNOW masks are necessary. FOR THE GOP it is a political weapon.

What is poignant is all the teachers that have and will die. IF given a thought for a moment, the flu season was unusually low last season. In our area, it was almost non-existent. We know masks check the spread of the COVID virus but now there is a possibility it could cut the flu infection risks, too!

Now isn't it worth it? Because COVID attacks the lungs and has already spun off a lambda variant. Why double up the chance parents, teachers, and their children could get at a double shot of respiratory illnesses?!

THINK OF IT: all those immune-compromised folks who got their shots. If it was so dangerous, then where was the storm for Gramma? If it doesn't work- who is in the hospitals? If it's a 'freedom' issue then what freedom will be there for those infected? Didn't we just come from a shutdown? Why is this EVEN A DEBATE?!!! Why is doing so OBVIOUSLY right so anti-right?

Don't let what you don't know to keep you from doing what you do know is the right way to go.

After all, folks like myself have to live w/the risk of new GOP members living to vote, to make more awful laws, and how many of them will mirror what we have now? The horror...the horror...

Waterfall Defies Gravity Due to Strong Winds

We saw the same thing in a storm on the Milford track in NZ, but those waterfalls were huge and hundreds of feet high. Crazy to see them just go the wrong way.

Derp.
I've seen dozens of reports of increases in the 1000-1500% range, and millions just dropped with nothing....but even your lowball +30% per year is still impossible to absorb and insane increases.

Water damage not hurricane related include flooding from sea level rise and more powerful storms outside hurricane season.

You ijit....more and stronger hurricanes ARE a component of global warming, as are flood events not from hurricanes, stronger storms, and higher flood tides.

Dummy.... Of the top 5 years with the most hurricanes on record since 1851, 4 were since 2005. Absolutely there are more hurricanes on average since 2000. You need to learn how to read a graph, and to not cherry pick data by discarding any you don't like or stopping the tally before major changes started. More dishonest Bob.

If it's from the dollar dropping (no where near 50%, the dollar index went from 110 -90 since 2000, CPI from $1722-$2634) why didn't they explode under Bush when it dropped as low as 72, and why didn't they drop when Obama brought that back to 102?

Answer: because you're totally full of it, as usual.
The company's themselves say it's from higher payouts due to more, stronger storms causing more damage....Many abandoning the market for other states....not because the dollar is weak. That's nonsense.

I Remember .

They are going up a lot. Not due to global warming .

Rates most likely going up due to dollar losing 50+% of value since 2000.

from the Herald Tribune
https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/business/2021/01/04/florida-homeowners-face-higher-rates-property-insurance-2021/4038548001/

"Property owners throughout Florida are seeing their insurance rates soar, as companies had rate increases approved ranging from from 12% to 31%. Insurers point to high rates for reinsurance, which is basically insurance to back up insurers, and claims for water damage from leaks that are not hurricane-related.

Another factor cited was that claims still were rolling in from Hurricane Irma in 2017 and Michael in 2018. Policy holders have a three-year window to submit wind damage claims. Insured losses from Irma totaled $17.44 billion while Category 5 Michael generated $7.9 billion in claims for insured losses, according to FOIR."

Icicles Form on Ceiling Fan Amid Freezing Temperatures Texas

newtboy says...

And more Derp..
Reported today, the Texas governor and numerous other officials were warned days ahead of the storm by the then chair of the public utility commission of Texas DeAnn Walker that the state did not have nearly enough natural gas on hand to get through the storm. This, she warned, was guaranteed to cause power outages during the deadly freeze which would result in Texans dying unnecessarily.
They made no moves to get more.
Because they refuse to meet minimum federal standards, they could not just go to their neighbors during the emergency begging for help, but could have purchased more natural gas beforehand...they had plenty of warning to prepare.

Instead the asshats ignored the shortages, ignored the deadly storm, and pretended the power went out because their wind turbines weren't weatherized (which they would have been if they ran like California, especially California before deregulation destroyed our systems decades ago). This led to many deaths by freezing. Foreseen, avoidable deaths and billions in damages.

Once again, since you seem ignorant, California's power problems are due 100% to lack of maintenance by the companies that took over when we deregulated decades ago under Republican Pete Wilson's administration. (Btw, because I don't think you know, between '82 and 2011 California was under Republican leadership for all but 4 years) The for profit companies deferred maintenance so much that now they are the main cause for billions in wildfire damages... and the solution? Not catch up on maintenance, just shut down if there's wind. That's what deregulation gets you. That's what you advocate for and support....then deride as a liberal idea when it fails miserably.
So much ignorant delusion. It's all the right is based on today. Baseless lies and morons who believe it and NEVER verify. Lol indeed.

TangledThorns said:

When the Democrats take over Texas they can run its power just like California's because everyone knows California never has power problems, lol!

GOP Purging Anyone Who Won't Embrace Trump's Election Lies

bcglorf says...

No, they aren’t upset about Trump starting too few wars. They are upset that the one war he chose to wage was a reigniting of America’s last civil one, capped off with his followers storming the capital building waving confederate flags and chanting for the hanging of the current vice president.

So yeah, the REAL patriots are mad at Trump about that.

TangledThorns said:

Democrats and Liz Cheney are crying that President Trump prevented a new conflict with North Korea. Don't worry, I'm sure Beijing Biden and his neoliberal cronies will start it.

welcome to the wagon. kinda hard to hear over the band sometimes, but nice to have ya'.

not a fan of the right-wing media. for a long, long - too long of a time. don't jive, daddy-o, w/putting out messages that fellow Americans are evil and an existential threat to anyone w/o a GOP membership. it's all f'n'ing stupid lies. also detrimental to the church socials. flinging potato salad at some 'antifa'¹ punk because he joked the orange jello resembled the former president is kinda over-the-stop. can you dig it?

like the bus driver, who smiles and greets their passengers, is looking forward to driving them all to HELL? on the face, doesn't that seem farfetched?

sure, the 'blue' ka-ka carries odor too. all those snide, snarky, condescending comments are hurtful - although it all is a bit less terrifying than storming the capitol - it could be better on that side of the pasture.²

how the name of baby jesus³ can a fellow citizen be so {{E V I L }} if they want healthcare, better wages, a stronger voice, equality, and a smarter populace for all Americans? makes no sense. seems they want more for the red than the red wants to work for?

the whole Ayn Rand puke didn't work for Louis XVI: it's past its fresh-by-date, and the right is already losing their heads over Mr. Potato Head.

anyway...Fox News is load w/criminals and is regularly sued for being f'n'liars. they are the people you're parents said they didn't want you around.

keep them out the house so they don't keep you out of your mind.

"I really don't care, do you?"- Trump

Trump had a plan? You mean the plan to demonize all non white foreigners as lowlife criminals coming from shitholes because it appeals to his racist base, or his plan to funnel federal money to his donors to "build" (in quotes because many of the no bid contracts went to donors who weren't builders and their poorly built sections fell apart in under a year) his useless wall by playing on his bases fear of non white foreigners?
Trump never had a plan that didn't end with him walking away with the money.

Odd, i don't remember cops being killed at each of those anarchistic (not leftist) events, and another committing suicide after each one.
I don't remember the anarchists killing 3-4 of their own at each event either.
And four years you say....that's quite a mountain of dead cops and anarchists that no one heard about. What's your source? They are amazing to uncover these thousands of dead police and anarchists previously overlooked by both right and left media.
Don't I remember you supporting charging those anarchists as terrorists and or traitors that should get a minimum of 10 years for surrounding a federal courthouse? But hunting congress and the vp through the halls of congress, murdering and permanently disabling police, costing over $1/2 billion in extra security measures and repairs should just be a trespassing warning. Hmmmm. You're going to have to persuade me.

I find it quite funny, you love to moan about leftists wanting an Orwellian, enormous and all powerful nanny state controlling everything but you can't tell the difference between them and anarchists. Lol.

This fake news has the far right stirred up believing Trump would come save them from evil supergenius Biden and his cadre of vampiric blood sucking eternally young pizza and child rape enthusiasts. What's the next exQuce for the storm not coming??

bobknight33 said:
