Mid-Air Collision of RC Plane and RC Helicopter
This is why you fly with a spotter. This is also why most fields have different areas for Heli's and Airplanes. Watching it I actually think this is the airplane pilots fault. He's calling low pass, but he knows there is a helicopter on the field. Calling low pass doesn't mean that you automatically get to come roaring down the center line. Especially if there is a helicopter, which doesn't and can not clear the runway like an airplane. The heli has just as much right to the airspace as the airplane. And that whirly bird is closer to $500 and the plane is about $2000 with the gear in it. Most likely most of the gear survived (Too bad he hit pavement), Fuji's are built like bricks.
The power of Jeep 4x4 - wasted!
his spotter was terrible thats what that was
Why You Should NEVER Pump Iron Alone.
don't overload the bar if you can't lift it or get a spotter. Otherwise just lift what you can lift. if you can't flex then it's too much weight. nothing wrong with training alone if you know what you're doing. this guy obviously doesn't.
Weight (For It) Lifting Fail.
"Spotter!"
Massive Slab of Concrete Falls on Parked Bus and Crushes It
used to operate a crane, never leave a load higher then need be (few feet off the ground), never move a load above anything or anyone(so usually straight up or slightly beside where it was lifted from) where is the spotter? the guy signaling the massively tall crane? if they were moving stuff around up onto the roof where did he load it from? where is any other construction worker? why is that whole area fenced off including around the bus, why is bus even there?! there would be no sane reason to park a bus that close to a crane.
the camera guy and skateboarder knew it was going to happen. it was staged for something, but not them.
Baby climbs for his toys 22 months old
what do you mean? the spotter's behind the camera, setting up a youtube account.>> ^oritteropo:
On the climbing forum where this was posted, they were impressed by her drop knee at the end (and appalled by the lack of a spotter).

Yea the drop knee near the end is cool - amazing how intuitive climbing can be.
The lack of a spotter is a bit ridiculous.

Priest Argues Against Teaching Creationism
>> ^meggymoo:
I know this is really picky but he's not a catholic priest. Leicester Catherdral is a Church of England cathedral. The church of England tends to be a bit more forward thinking and accepting of science with the Church of England actually apologising to Charlse Darwin recently. No news on whether he accepted tho
Great post except 1 thing, that's not picky, it's just right. Spotter's badge for noticing that one!
SFPD Shoots and Kills Unarmed 19yr old Man over $2 Bus Fare

At a press conference today, Chief Greg Suhr played the audio file from Shot Spotter for reporters. The first shot, supposedly from the suspect, was fairly soft sounding, which is indicative of a lower-caliber firearm. The shot is then followed by a rapid barrage of shots. A total of 10 shots were recorded in less than six seconds, according to the audio.
Long Truck is Long
>> ^Morganth:
In special cases like this, would it help if the rear wheels could have independent turning?
Like a long fire truck? I think that would help, but the load itself would have to be on a free-rotating platform above both the front and rear axles, since it is a single long straight piece that cannot be bent.
On the other hand, without that it just becomes an exercise in taking the turn nearly as wide as possible, and going very slow with the help of spotters to make sure that you have clearance everywhere -- which isn't particularly unusual for a CDL semi driver. So it is a special case, but I'm sure they did the math to make sure that it could fit through the turn and had plenty of law enforcement and spotter escorts to check clearance.
Why you shouldn't try a 1008 lb squat
good job spotters holding back that guy from hitting his face on the metal legs of that rig
good job organizers for having paramedics stand by in case something like this happens
good job organizers on music selection and knowing what's the appropriate time to turn it off
good job everybody else stopping that guy from just crawling around on the floor and helping him get up
The Hurt Locker - Sniper Fight!

Mackie's character did say he ahd spent 7 years in intelligence prior to his EOD deployment. It's not that hard to be a spotter. Handling a rifle itself is not very hard, and I don't have any military training. I've handled a .50 (never fired one) - and it's just a bigger, heavier version of other rifles. What's the big deal?
After the sniper shoots Fiennes' character, he took cover to remain hidden. Seems perfectly reasonable to me - it's what I would do.
i still don't think any sane person would take that chance and go up there 'blind'. one of the few things you know is that the other sniper has a bead right on that spot where the gun is still sitting. and you're gonna go up there, hoping he's in the middle of re-locating, or just not paying attention to the big fuck-off rifle that may be used against him and then you have to find him and kill him before he does the same to you. that seems to be putting a lot of faith in the other guy's incompetence... i mean, what happens if there was more than one of them?

I think you folks exaggerate.
Trainees typically shoot thousands of rounds over a number of weeks, while learning these core skills.
You do not go from rifleman to sniper in a matter of minutes. It takes alot of training to condition the reptilian brain to create "Muscle Memory. It's more scientific name is Neuromuscular_facilitation, muscles by themselves do not remember, and have no capability of remembering.
