Perfect example of why spectators lining the course always seem suicidal to me. In off road racing, we tried to think of them as bushes with clothes on, otherwise it's impossible to bring yourself to drive flat out when a tiny mistake might put you 50' off the course. At the least, they shouldn't allow people to sit on the outside of corners and curves.

Overwatch does monitor for cheating. Blizzard also issues permanent bans. Battle.net in and of itself is fairly resistant, read the last link on how much harder it was to even create an aimbot hack for Overwatch than for any game using VAC.

Bethesda and Id, on the other hand, don't seem nearly as concerned or proactive. Which is bad, because you can have the most fun game in the universe and lose playerbase because of the cheating. They could take steps, very simple ones, such as enabling a spectator mode so that you could take video from the view of the cheating player. They could enable dedicated servers so that there could be admins in place to ban cheaters from those servers. They could even act on the multiple reports sent to them of obvious cheaters and ban them.

They chose to do none of that. Instead they chose to release a 15 dollar DLC that many say (including me) is hardly worth that amount. You get 3 new maps that you have to play in rotation mode, one new armor skin, some goofy rainbow spectrum colors, a few new post match taunts, and an extremely underwhelming new weapon/demon.

So, tldr mode, Blizzard does bust their ass to prevent hacking via software and bans, while Bethesda/Id does neither and releases new cash grab DLC. One of those methods is successful with an estimated 15m players and one has about 2k players on average. I'll let you figure out which is which and which will still be around in a month or two.

Reminds me of the famous video where they tried to dynamite a dead beached whale back into the sea. But instead the spectators were showered with smelly bits of whale as it busted windshields. Cracks me up just thinking about it.

I've had it, after using it for 22 years the internet has become so freakin stale. Same old lazy know-it-all spectators who couldn't walk a mile in their own shoes, much less anybody else's. The predictable drama queen cliches about revolution and fascism and cop trolling and "he's just a kid" and race baiting and "I'm the face of the oppressed" and all the fake controversy and forced celebrities and all the shit-eating selfies. This clumsy new interface on Videosift made me realize it takes more mouse clicks just to read the same old crap. It's been fun.

What I found amazing was they crashed at what I assume is the only spot on the course that wasn't lined with spectators standing ON the road. Incredible luck, that.
I was also impressed that somehow the crash seemed to change the hatchback they were driving into a VW bug.

For spectators, maybe, but most off road racing has more high speed excitement, it's just much harder to film through the dust.

I attend every Rally Amercia event in the US I can, since it's the best we have (no WRC here). Every event has spectator areas which are designated spots highly controlled by course marshals. They are typically on the inside of tight corners fit for maximum drama, slides, high acceleration etc.

Of course you can find your own spot at an uncontrolled location if you want to risk the fury of a marshal or land owner, but that's where the intimate and most desirable action can be found.

I'd personally prefer a WRC event where I can stand wherever I want and cheer on my favorite driver/car.

Every few years a spectator or three does get flattened, but not much ever gets changed so I figure it's deemed acceptable losses.

Rally is the only motorsport I have any time for, but I've never wanted to see it in person - standing watching them go round one corner can't compare to the televised version with its in-car, helicopter and crane-mounted cameras.

Entire structure below the southern stands can be folded away to make room for the pitch to slide through. Structure is designed to act like a bridge, but this can of course only be done when no spectators are in the stands above.

The Port Townsend Centipedes (PTC) were a ten-man team who, on July 27,1977, thrilled some 10,000 Seattle Kingdome spectators by winning the Seafair World Championship Tug-of-War. They not only brought home the laurels but also a winner-take-all check for $10,000. The PTC's success story was an object lesson in strategy. I didn't know what to think of Ron Paul idea about being a non interventionist. Obama has lifted the hand of interventionism off Arab nations and now we have a shit storm of assassins and killers who desire to kill everyone.
