We're asking for the state institution of marriage rights to be extended to same-sex couples, not trees, or to polygamous relationships. To suggest otherwise is a ridiculous slippery-slope argument and a strawman.

Your church is free to choose who gets married within its premises. But like it or not, it's already possible for straight couples to get married with zero church involvement in the US and where I live in the UK. That right to a secular marriage is all that anyone is asking for. Whether gods or their earthly advocates want it is irrelevant; the church is already not involved in other non-religious marriages already, so it's not within its purview to argue against its implementation for same-sex couples.

From my experience, and physics class, that should only be true if your brakes suck. Physics don't lie, and I was taught that static friction is ALWAYS greater than kinetic friction...meaning rolling tires grip better than sliding tires every time. If your brakes are able to grip with more 'stopping' force than the sliding tire produces and still allow 'slip', they should be able to stop you faster than sliding.

Perhaps on ice that's true, or other slippery surfaces where the sensors get confused, or with really bad or broken ABS, but good ABS seriously reduces the distance to stop AND retains control by rapidly (thousands per second) pulsing the braking force up to maximum possible force without stopping the rotation. That should be more stopping force than locked tires can produce if the brakes are in good condition.

I've been in the car when an idiot friend decided to prove it to me, and slammed on his new BMW's brakes at about 70mph. The seatbelt hit so hard I had the wind knocked out of me, and we stopped ridiculously fast (WAY faster than when I've locked up non-abs cars on the freeway...repeatedly). Afterwards, he needed new brakes all around, because they gripped so hard and hot it warped the new rotors, but never locked up the tires...retaining static friction between the road and tire. Dumb...but informative.

Hmm I think I'm coming around to Harris on profiling. A statistical approach that takes into account all factors (whether it be race or religion, however in/significant they may be) would certainly have the best outcome. Although frankly the sample size mix of confounders would not really be sufficient to draw very strong conclusions.

As a matter of policy I do see the logic in saving lives being placed above political correctness where the cost is inconvenience (and yes some loss of dignity). As far Cenk's point on what profiling leads to, I'm not really sold. It feels too much like a slippery slope argument (a bad analogy would be suggesting gay marriage leads to polygamy).

I guess the problem is though, while in theory at no point should 'Muslim being a contributing factor to selection' be interpreted as that the policy believes all Muslims are terrorists, it is all but certain that this is what people would choose to believe. Even something like a subsidised flight in lieu of inconvenience would not really help here.

That's pretty scary too but starfish are a keystone species, meaning when/if they go, the entire ecosystem changes...again. I've heard stories here in the west that the anemones are having trouble because the shellfish that the starfish ate are now taking over the tide waters and displacing them...I wonder what happens when the anemones go, surely something else needs them in order to live, and something needs that thing...and so on, and so on....talk about a slippery slope (pun intended).

Seconding Artician. The brain evolved by natural selection, just like the rest of the body. It has built in biases and modules that vary genetically. Look at the wide variety of personalities in dog breeds, for example. In humans, the big five personality traits are estimated to be about 50% heritable based on twin studies.

Gattaca is a good movie and Brave New World is a good book, but they should not be taken as the ends of some slippery slope that any eugenic policy inevitably leads to. I think it's unfortunate that so much fear of eugenics is propagated by dystopian fictions like those. Eugenics can be done in a humane way that respects all individual rights. For instance:

1. a system of incentives for highly successful people to have more children or donate to sperm banks.

2. Universal single-payer healthcare, providing among other things free condoms and birth control pills to all, so that the use of contraception will not be so much inversely correlated with income as it has been from 1850 to the present when the poor often couldn't afford it (and it's a demonstrable fact that on average the poor tend to have lower intelligence partly due to genetics)

Even such modest, individual rights respecting policies, if phrased in terms of benefiting the gene pool, are political suicide because people are still afraid of imaginary slippery slopes leading to Hitler. Most of the US is still in denial of the implications of biological science, for reasons that speak well of them, but it's time to grow up and get over that habit of Godwinizing any attempt to improve the gene pool regardless of whether it infringes individual rights.

I feel like most if not all of these are rhetorical, and you don't really want answers to your queries, but I'll offer some anyway....
I'm not attacking you, but will attack your position that AGW is a fraud.
I have done the MOST impactful thing one can do to minimize one's footprint, I didn't have children. I also grow most of my own food (but I do still eat meat, mostly chickens), I have solar power and water, and I drive far less than 5K miles per year. All that said, I am still probably contributing to the CO2 rise when all the math is done, but far less than most first worlders, and not at all when I'm gone.
You can't really be asking for a physics class here in the comment section, can you? Put simply, CO2 reflects more heat back towards the earth, trapping it in our 'system', making it hotter. It's not the only gas that does this, but it seems to be the most prevalent. The models prove to be imperfect because most of them don't take everything into account, for instance global dimming is rarely included in the math. While CO2 fluctuates naturally, the amount and rate of change due to human production is faster and greater than seen in nature, exponentially so. That means there's no time to adapt to the new environment and greater rate of species failure than in a natural extinction event.
I'll just point out that these articles still try to claim that warmer temperatures will create better growing conditions for crops, a claim that has already been proven wrong, as the problems with extreme weather and drought far outweigh the minimal benefits. That's enough right there for me to discount them, as is the fact that they come from sites dedicated to 'denying'. I didn't need to read any farther.
I, for one, do read the data and interpret it myself...and I come to the conclusion that most climate scientists are minimizing the issues, not exaggerating them, and that 'deniers' consistently ignore any data that doesn't fit their pre-conceived self-serving result.
It seems odd to me that the same people that want to rely on the slippery slope argument when dealing with social issues can't understand how far we've gone down that slope with our climate and deny there's a slope at all, no matter what the evidence shows.
