Why Being Honest about Ghostbusters is Important
I've seen it. It was indeed funny AND entertaining. I enjoyed it about as much as I enjoyed Ghostbusters 2, which was a much lazier rehash of the same premise of the first movie to cash in on the name.
Yet...somehow, people don't remember the second movie that way. But they, having not seen it in a lot of cases, view this movie as an A-Bomb for the movie industry. The most scorn worthy example of remakes ever! Most disliked trailer in youtube history! Yet....somehow, the same fate didn't befall TMNT, Transformers, Robocop, et all.
But we also forget, some of our most beloved genre movies and well liked films were remakes of older movies before our time. The Thing, The Fly, The Departed, True Grit, 12 Monkeys, etc. It's not that it's evil ole hollywood "not having original ideas and scripts", because we have unoriginal ideas and scripts in the hallows of nerd fandom.
Really seems like there is one sort of X-Factor about this particular remake of a previous nerd-centric IP that set it apart from all the others people ignored or fell in love in with....
Long egg production
robocop
I'd buy that for a dollar....which movie?
San Antonio ISD Officer Bodyslams 12 Year Old Girl
He has extensive training, far more than your average officer, and the solution to a 12 year old 'resisting' is to hip slam her into the ground face first?
Maybe he should have just went Robocop on her, "Come quietly or there will be...trouble." Then he could have shot her when she didn't face plant herself.
Maybe a little excessive but the kid should have complied.
Her fault.
Atlas, The New Generation
The way it pushed itself into the upright position was eerily reminiscent of the old stop-motion-feeling stuff i remember from ED209 in robocop. There is genuinely going to come a point, sooner or later, where the robot starts to remember which jerk kept pushing him over when he was young and vulnerable.
A RoboCop Movie Scene: Gas station from the first movie.
I found Robocop got a lot more hoity toity after he became Robocop PhD. =)
A RoboCop Movie Scene: Gas station from the first movie.
Even @siftbot upvoted this. And it got only 18 upvotes? What's wrong with you people? Do have no human decency? It's RoboCop for Christ's sake!
Epic Rap Battles of History: Eastern vs Western Philosophers
At least they're real historical figures (terminator vs robocop...). That was some damn fine wordplay, glad to see they're still able to produce quality stuff
I felt it had great raps but little history that was damn good...cept the hemlock.
Fail Forward : Deus Ex - Human Revolution
I still don't think the scenario they present is that far fetched, people today regularly get operations that they personally could not possibly afford, but insurance covers it. Vets returning from wherever we're fighting then getting hooked up, most vets are probably not rich by any definition. Then get a few rich backers like David Sarif and scientific advocates like Hugh Darrow and you can frame it as a quality of life issue, or even a productivity issue.
You're right about the super limbs not being too practical or likely, I would also add illegal to that list, no beat cop wants to face off against Robocop. But I wonder if even slightly stronger limbs might pose problems of their own? Say you have one of your legs replaced with a cybernetic limb, if that one is stronger than your other meat leg, I wonder if you might not end up favoring that one and that screws up you normal gait, generating a whole bunch of new problems.
The kid in the video we see getting abused seems to only have a cyber leg, I'm not sure how much good a single leg is going to be in a fight, or flight for that matter especially if you are hugely outnumbered. Adam is a different story of course, he was clearly built for combat and infiltration.
The cynic in me would readily agree with the scenario where the wealthy wind up with everything but that sounds almost too perfect and cliche. So I think there's room for other possible futures.
<SNIP>
So either way, I still don't think we'll see a "prosthetic underclass".

World's Dumbest Cop
So, Robocop or Skynet?
There's an obvious distinction between bribery and extortion.
Really the whole practice of discretionary law enforcement is an appalling one. What we want is an army of impartial, emotionless automata.
Chappie Full trailer
Yeah and he's in the new Robocop movie. Oh well at least Sigourney Weaver doesn't like Ai that's something we've never seen before.
Johnny 5 is alive!

What Frank Miller's Batman is. What Batman could be. In the movies, Robocop rules!
Anyone here read Frank Miller's RoboCop VS. Terminator?
Long story short, similar idea, everything is f'ed, but this time RoboCop's consciousness is hiding deep within Skynet, waiting for his time to strike. If you like smart but action driven dystopian SciFi, I highly recommend.
