Aladdin was one of my favorites in the 90s, and unlike many others, I've been perfectly content with Disney making live-action versions of all their old cartoons (just don't get me started on the atrocity that was the new Beauty and the Beast).

This movie was perfectly fine, except that Robin Williams's incredible performance was completely besmirched (as in it had poop rubbed all over it).

Aside from the great range in Williams's acting performance, his singing performance was so fun and exuberant and enthralling, as were all the songs in general.

They took those masterful Disney songs from the classic and just butchered them. I just felt disappointed at all the moments where I expected to feel an explosion of energy but instead fell flat.

My main point is not that the genie could only be played by Robin Williams, but that Will Smith is a terrible fit for this role. Will Smith can act if he is forced to by the director, Ali proved that. But if you just hire him because you wanted a comedian to play a role, you are going to get Will Smith acting as Will Smith.

That can work sometimes, IE MIB, but in other roles it is going to distract the audience from the scenes the actor is in (Suicide Squad).

There we many other actors that could have slid into this part and done it better. I'll wait for the movie, but I suspect that Smith is going to ruin the character for me.

All actors are in a league of their own. Each with their own followers. Each with the same end goal. Robin Williams is still a powerhouse, even in death. But he didn't collect everyone. Not because he wasn't good, but because some people like apples more than oranges.

Have we not yet learned that Will Smith is no longer a viable actor? He definitely isn't in the same league as Robin Williams.

Sheesh, I hope he's not turning down Robin Williams Ave.

I'm not sure if it's just that the impression is really good, but I think he actually has a very similar facial structure to Robin Williams too.

It's uncanny.
