Blind French Boy Sings B.B. King's Everyday I Have the Blues

oritteropo says...

From http://aveugles.org/felix-impressionne/ this was filmed at the summer camp of the Fondation des Aveugles du Québec (Quebec Foundation for the Blind). (and therefore *canada)

Felix was born 3 months premature and his retinas detached due to oxygen toxicity at birth, and at first they were unsure if he would ever talk... so his family is very happy that he has turned out to have such a talent for music.

Felix loves BB King, of course, but also Les Colocs, Bernard Adamus, Stromae, Robert Johnson and Eddie Lang. He takes advantage of the summer camps to bring his guitar and put on a show.

It also says some other stuff about how the camp provides opportunities for blind children like Felix, and they hope he continues to flourish through music.

Sonny Boy Williamson Defines the Blues

as long as i'm not later portrayed by Ralph Macchio, i'm good yeah...

(for all the cheese in that movie, it's still got 2 or 3 incredibly memorable moments that had a hand in my try at guitar playing as a youth)

Well son, there's a certain crossroads. Lies just south of Clarksdale Mississippi. Where Highway 61 and Highway 49 meet is the spot where the King of the Delta Blues, Mr. Robert Johnson, made his deal with Old Scratch himself- you might know him better as the Devil.

the squeaking of the guitar strings is nothing but sloppy, lazy playing...
lift your damn fingers off the fretboard- this sound is like nails on a blackboard

In classical guitar, the sound may be undesired but something like acoustic rock, or delta blues, it is a very common sound. I think Robert Johnson would agree...but what does he know?

Eric Clapton - On Playing the Robert Johnson Sessions

FancyL says...

That was really interesting. I always assumed that there was a backup guitar because even listening to it now, it seems impossible for Robert Johnson to be doing all that so casually.
