Ameca and the most realistic AI robots. Beyond Atlas.

Big dreams, but remember hyperloop, the amazing high speed public transportation Musk foresaw?
It was going to be autonomous pods driving hundreds of mph through multi tube vacuum tunnels, now it’s Tesla cars manually driven maybe 40mph through small one lane tunnels, with traffic jams already on the tiny test track ride in Vegas during the pandemic with riders limited to well under 1000 per hour (<1/4projected capacity) costing $52.5 million for 1.7 miles of inescapable death tube…. so underground death trap roads at only 8800 times the cost of above ground roads.
Remember the Tesla semi truck? Sounded great. Turned out it had less than 1/6 the cargo capacity of similarly size trucks because of battery weight and a 300 mile maximum range new (quickly dropping as batteries age) for the regular version, and unless you charge at Tesla with guaranteed discount electricity it’s not even cost effective against regular trucks per mile, much less per ton of freight….and still not any on the road, now estimated to start next year…maybe.

Notice the teslabot doesn’t list expected battery life, which is the big limitation on self powered robots. All the ability in the world is useless if they need to recharge every 10 minutes.

Elon’s ideas sound amazing until you look at them practically, and find that his projections are insanely unrealistic.

Edit: in his genius, Musk lobbied hard against the infrastructure bill that includes money to build the American chip manufacturing capacity…and now his plants are losing billions per year because they can’t get chips.

Tom Scott trying to deal with his phobia of roller coasters

And probably 3 out of 4 of those was the rider doing something stupid (EIA), where they would still be alive if they weren't effing around and finding out.

According to the googles its about 4/year. So you can still confidently ride knowing you're (very very very...) unlikely to die.

Florida Man Brings Knife To Gunfight

newtboy says...

Nothing indicated the riders changed their route to follow the guy who cut them off (incredibly dangerous if you’re the bikers in that situation)…when you get cut off, you end up following the person who cut you off unless you just pull over to cry.

“When both men (and the woman) eventually stopped” (at a stop sign? The truck was in front…it was smart to not go around him, it’s not smart to put yourself in front of a raging out of control driver, especially as a rider).
“Rivera stepped out of his truck holding a knife.” Who escalated?

I’m hard pressed to understand how you think the motorcycle escalated the situation considering the circumstances. He was cut off, the truck in front stopped, the crazed man got out brandishing a knife and trying to use it. The rider didn’t pull a weapon until he was actually attacked. He could have legally shot Rivera dead in Florida. I thought he showed great restraint. The police clearly thought the rider had done nothing wrong.

So a man armed with a gun says he was cut off and that's why he followed the guy an escalated the situation. I guess this ended as good as it could considering it was florida.

(PS5) RIDE 4 | Ultra High Realistic Graphics

Khufu says...

motorcycles make for shit games (for RL riders anyway)because there's so much about the way you operate them that games always ignore.. until it's done in vr and with physics that don't ignore the way counter steering works I'll pass.

(PS5) RIDE 4 | Ultra High Realistic Graphics

newtboy says...

Stunning! *quality stuff
Unfortunately reviews say the difficulty is just as realistic, so if you aren’t a superbike rider you’ll have trouble advancing.

Still, we’ve come one hell of a long way since excite bike!
I hope Road Redemption, the upcoming Road Rash style motorcycle combat game, looks 1/2 that good.

Cyclist vs Parked Car - My First Driving Lesson

Northerner terrifies Londoners by saying "Hello"

StukaFox says...

Yeah, you laugh, but this is pretty much a real thing. I didn't know you're not supposed to make eye contact with fellow riders on the Tube. Being the happy American sort, I did exactly that, including a smile and a nod to the poor bastard who looked up at exactly the wrong moment. The look of disgust and British disapproval on his face would done a New Yorker proud.

I've never wished I had a fart in the chamber so bad in my entire life.

This reminds me of the Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle: some of the most amazing body paint I've ever seen on the naked bike riders.

Cameron McAdoo Insane Crash To Podium

newtboy says...

It's typical in short course racing to restart if there's a red flag (serious/injury crash) on or before lap 1. I would expect that if the driver/rider can get to the starting line before the restart, most circuits would wait a short time for doctors to give the ok or not.

Very heartwarming, do they wait for anyone who falls and let them restart? Any concussion protocol rules at all?
