Why Safe Playgrounds Aren't Great For Kids

BSR says...

Safe playgrounds are the reason why my friends and I would walk on railroad tracks and railroad bridges, build tree houses, get lost in the woods, play with matches and kiss girls.

STUNG by a GIANT HORNET!

JiggaJonson says...

Well don't worry, I heard the are should banning travel from Asia now that it's here.

Everyone is saying it's a Democrat hoax, CNN is probably reporting it wrong anyway. Obama probably didn't prepare us for the hornet that got here two days ago. It should be gone for the summer. It disappears its like a miracle. They have it under control.

6 months later, hornets in all 50 states
"I think we did a great job!"
"Hillary would have done worse."
"It's the reason we need a tax cut for people making $1,000,000 a year or more. Cut funding from the railroads."

What Happens When You Try to File a Complaint Against a Cop

JiggaJonson says...

I actually had this happen to me after I got a ticket. A $250 + $150 court fee ticket because I was going...wait for it...35 mph.

I got pulled over at this exact location, go on and try to find a speed limit sign going north. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.6110353,-87.508833,3a,75y,12.09h,82.7t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxVT9eHxtCpzbkw2Q6wPCaQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I remember because he whipped out from that liquor store parking lot, but long story short he wrote me a ticket and I didn't notice until later that the ticket said I got pulled over at Calumet and Lyons (right in front of the school down the road). It may be the case that the whole area is actually 25, but to be fair I was driving at 10 p.m. on my way home, whole fucking street empty.

Red n Blues as I approach the railroad tracks. I look at my speedometer "Is he pulling me over? I'm only going 35. Hmmm. Okay."

"Sir, do you have any idea how fast you were going?"
Sheepishly - "Thirty? Five?"
"THATS RIGHT!"

License - Reg, and he walks off, I look at it and say "Jesus christ! $250 for going 35?"

I find out about the court fees adding another $150 and then I see that he wrote the wrong street down "Hmmm what's this street he wrote ohhhHHHH right in front of the school where it's obviously 25 not near the railroad tracks eh? What a fucker"

I go to complain and the chief of police comes out and wants to know why I want to complain. He explains that it will go on the guys record and I should really just pay it because it could end up being a lot more trouble for me than it's worth. Strong insinuation in his voice, I left and didn't pay, didn't file complaint, went to court and explained.

Nothing happened to him, he didn't even get asked why he wrote the wrong street. It was just assumed that he was being honest.

Yeah, people don't write songs calling for "fuck the firemen" or "fuck the EMT's" - gee, I wonder why.

Sheriff Caught On Bodycam Telling Deputies To Lie

newtboy says...

It bears noting that EVERY cop went along with this lie, not one contradicted it, a lie which was an attempt to add a charge of attempted murder on a police officer, until they realized on scene that the instruction to lie had been recorded. This body cam footage, a body camera the sheriff tried to ensure wasn't recording, saved this man from life in prison based on police lies.

Body cameras with on off switches are worthless for the public, whenever there's something they want to hide cops just claim it was off...trust them.

No charges against the cops....the DA said it was clear he was instructing the deputies to file false charges, but since they realized it was being recorded this time and therefore didn't follow through railroading this one defendant, no crime was committed. WTF is that? To me, this is reasonable doubt for any past defendant in the county.

The Baboon That Controlled a Railway for 9 Years

Drama

nanrod says...

True, assuming it's parent recording the video. If it's an aunt or uncle or neighbor who's been railroaded into babysitting, all bets are off.

lucky760 said:

Fucking great parenting right there.

I know plenty of parents are okay with the "Go fuck yourself" approach to parenting (a.k.a. "hey kid, go live your own life; figure it out on your own, even if you're fucking 3"), but it disgusts me. I'd never ignore my sons (let alone watch and record to share with the world) as they assault one another.

Sorry, Mordhaus, but a spiritual -1 vote from me, but for the parent, not you.

These revelations about Iran show Obama got played!

bobknight33 says...

Nearly 2 years and still ZERO nothing with Trump/Russian collusion. Mueller's indictments of 13 so far are for low level irreverent to Trump or pre Trump issues

However boat loads if nefarious activity between HRC, DNC, CIA,FBI to interfere, monitor, railroad Trump.

"They" being Trump and his Russian buddies?
Hmmmm....we agree then....time to reevaluate my position.

Samantha Bee - Is There Any Hope For The Left?

bobknight33 says...

The DNC felt that Hillary was a land slide victory against Trump.
Heck all media pundits and polls echoed this bias.

The DNC just had to railroad Bernie out of the race.
Sanders truly did not have a chance to win the primary.

Stormsinger said:

The DNC felt that a Trump victory was a lesser threat to their owners than a Sanders victory would have been. Problem solved.

Video from the Future, Trump's wall completed

MilkmanDan says...

I pretty much completely agree with you, but to play devil's advocate:

"Wasting resources and alienating our neighbors and allies with no tangible benefit." -- Stopping or even reducing illegal immigration would be a tangible benefit. I personally have no problems with immigrants, refugees, etc. coming in to the US, working (legally) and getting benefits like emergency and other health care, etc. But illegal / undocumented immigration can be a real problem.

I don't think the wall is a reasonable answer to that real problem, but it is part of the package that Trump sold to voters to get them to vote for him. As a result, he pretty much has to at least pretend like he's going to try to actually build it.

"I wish Republicans (since they have the purse strings) who bemoan the state of the country, would put fixing it first." -- A bunch of the people who voted for Trump consider illegal immigration to be a very important issue. Not all for racist reasons, either. Anyway, those people see the wall as Trump attempting to fix that issue -- something that other politicians haven't done.

I'd massively prefer Trump creating a giant jobs program by repairing interstates, railroads, and other transportation, building lots of solar and/or nuclear power plants to meet future demands with cleaner energy, etc. But Trump didn't run on those kinds of promises; one of the few concrete things he ran on was the border wall.

I really don't mean to defend the idea of a border wall, which I agree is extremely problematic for many many reasons. However, it wouldn't be the most egregious and pointless waste of taxpayer dollars. We spend *way* too much money on the Military-Industrial Complex, although that isn't entirely a waste (merely 75% wasteful ). And the TSA, which I mentioned in the previous post, is set to cost us $7.6 billion in 2017 alone -- half to a third of what people suggest the wall would cost to build in total. And the TSA sets the bar for pointless, in my opinion. Absolutely nothing of value would be lost if it was eliminated, and actual travel security would probably get better by simply reverting to how things worked before Bush inflicted it on us.

newtboy said:

If he wants to add billions to welfare, better to just do that and not make a ridiculous jobs program wasting resources and alienating our neighbors and allies with no tangible benefit.
I'm all for repairing existing infrastructure first, plenty of jobs to me made there, and many more permanent ones if we actually do proper upkeep this time, but I see absolutely no need to create a new enormous piece of infrastructure mostly in the desert first, leaving nothing to pay for the rest and few willing to work there without ridiculous bonuses at taxpayer expense.
I wish Republicans (since they have the purse strings) who bemoan the state of the country, would put fixing it first.

The World's Most Dangerous Path Isn't So Dangerous Any More

fissionchips says...

It wasn't particularly dangerous before, the supports were not 'bits of metal', they were railroad ties anchored into solid rock. 95% of the way you could simply walk the path, and in a couple spots there were via ferrata type cables to help walk across the beams where the concrete had eroded.

Bill Maher - Bernie Sanders and the Democratic Biopsy

ChaosEngine says...

I 100% agree that not only is Bernie the better candidate and would make a better President than either Clinton or Trump, he would also have a better chance of beating Trump.

Republicans might not like Sanders on a political level ("ermahgerd, teh socialism is coming!", etc), but they DESPISE Clinton on a personal level.

And let's be honest, most of that has nothing to do with her real or perceived failings.. it's because
a) she's a woman and
b) she was married to Bill.

But that is irrelevant because Clinton is the candidate.

Addressing your other points:
"Trump is a womanizer / misogynist / predator. Yeah, and Clinton is married to a worse one who disgraced the Presidency while he was in office.

Trump lies constantly. As opposed to the Clintons, who would never lie. For example, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" (Bill), "it depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is" (Bill)"

Sorry, I missed the part where Bill Clinton was the nominee. Leaving aside the dubious nature of the allegations against him, the point is that he's not the candidate, Hillary is.

The email thing was bad, but as has been gone over many times, it was stupid rather than malicious.

"Trump has no experience with government and would make an incompetent president. What's worse: a crooked / corrupt Washington insider that knows how to game the system, or someone with no experience?"

Easy, Trump is worse. When did we all decide that being able to make deals was a bad thing? That's what politics is. If you don't know the system, you will get railroaded.

Now, my preference would have been for someone who knows the system and wants to change it, but as that's not going to happen, I'll take someone who can get shit done over an inexperienced buffon any day.

Once again, I completely agree that Bernie would have stood a better chance than Hillary of being elected, but it pretty much doesn't matter anymore. Everyday that passes Trump slips further behind, giving me some small hope for humanity.

How highways wrecked American cities

I personally think it was more a case of rich vs poor. Railroads did the same thing back in the day, hence the term "the wrong side of the tracks" for the poor people.

I had an HO scale model railroad as a kid, so at first watching this I thought "neat". Then "whoa". "Holy shit". And at the end... THAT WAS ALL LEGO?!!! Where the hell was this 30 years ago?!!
