@NetRunner, it has nothing to do with free speech or the right to assemble! I'm not arguing they can't lobby their politicians. Or that you can't lobby yours to shoot pastafarians. You can do and say whatever you wish. My biggest problem in this scenario is government coercion. Can't you see that? Have I not been clear for the past four years on VideoSift? Do we need to make a public service announcement that blankfist has an issue with government?
The problem in this scenario is government. In case that wasn't clear, I'll repeat it. The problem is government.
But I can also condemn those in the union for using government to do bad things. Just like how we both condemn George W. Bush for using government to do bad things when he was president (remember that?). Are we saying we don't think Bush has the right to free speech? No. Are we saying him, Cheney and Rumsfield don't have the right to free assembly? No.
So you are ready to join the protesters who're opposing these bills that remove collective bargaining rights from public sector unions? Or at least, voice support for their cause?
I hear that you don't see eye to eye with unions in all things, but that's not the question today. The question today is whether those unions get to exist at all.

so wait... whether or not an 11 year old girl deserves this reaction or not, her and her parents should be liable for everything that happened.
this is why:
"People are dicks... especially on the internet. A Public Service Announcement regarding 8-18 year olds and their parents."
Here's the thing... You went to high school, there were dicks. Probably at least 3 you can name off the top of your head still and that's out of 1000 people tops...
Imagine the population of image boards, social networking sites, video sharing sites, etc. We'll say 1,000,000 people to keep it conservative. (1.5 million iPhone4's were sold in just the first day of sales. Just to put that in perspective is all as this is not a direct comparison. Just showing that 1M people is a very conservative number here...)
Imagine now, going to high school with 1,000,000 people. Now you're looking more along the lines of at least 3000 dicks; that's just the confirmed ones, not including the ones that inevitably free themselves from normal morality when they become anonymous. 3000 people on the alert for the next reason to make themselves feel superior for whatever reason, taking any opening they can find.
High school sucked because of the number of dicks that screwed with other kids growing up. Imagine if 3000+ dicks harassed you... Well, you can do something to avoid this. Don't make yourself a goddamned target. You might have a clique of friends that think you're cool, and that's fine; act like this around them. Publicly spewing this kind of shit makes you a target and no matter how strong you are, there's someone out there that would like you to suffer for your opinion.
4chan is filled to the brim with those people. Would you go into a high school locker room full of jocks right after a game and tell them how you think they're f***ots and you're perfect, and that they should contract AIDS, and you would pop a glock in their mouth and make a brain slushie? If those jocks were guaranteed to be anonymous, never to be held personally responsible for their actions, do you think they'd hesitate for one second to beat the ever loving crap out of you?
This is the primary reason that all kids need to be educated on the proper use of the internet, what constitutes mis-use and how to use the internet safely. Kids should not be growing up in an 'internet highschool' and certainly not on sites like the mind-hive of 'just for the lulz', 4chan...
I fear for our future. Personal responsibility, how does it work?
Also, don't be an internet dick... Be a responsible parent, and if you're kid is a bully, don't let them try to be bullies on the internet. One of two things will happen. They'll become an internet dick preying on a much larger audience, or they'll become preyed upon by bigger internet dicks. Either way, it's not good.
tl;dr - don't be an internet dick, and don't let your goddamn 11 year old talk shit to an infinite amount of people unless she's prepared to back up that shit. sometimes your 11-year old is just fucking out-of-line, do something about it.

President Obama Signs HCR into Law
>> ^NetRunner:
There are also caps on how much of your income the insurer is allowed to ask you to put up in terms of deductibles and copays, and the insurers are required to spend 80-85% of every dollar they collect in premiums on medical care for their customers.
I'm still concerned about the flimsiness of the medical loss ratio. Unless the bill clearly defines what constitutes medical care, it's not very meaningful. As an extreme example, public service announcements could be claimed as part of medical care, as a form of education...while in actuality being more of a commercial. Don't laugh, I've seen at least one class-action lawsuit get settled such that SW Bell was allowed to "refund" the victims by offering them free services (like call-waiting and forwarding) for 2 months, which exactly duplicated what they did several times previously as an ad campaign.
Unless there are very strict watchdogs, the insurance companies are going to run wild with this. And even with watchdogs, it really doesn't do anything to slow down prices. If anything, it gives them incentive to raise rates and pay providers more, just to increase the actual value of their 20%.
All the very best fails of 2009!
This needs to be converted into a public service announcement for idiot teenagers. Although, it could have the opposite effect if they compete to earn a spot in next year's PSA.
