In Canada, School funding is based on head count and not on housing taxes.
Interest rates are pre-set by banks but to the best of my knowledge, the same rates are given to everyone - there is no race-bias on who gets which loan rate.

Also, If I was to buy a house, anywhere, suburbs or not, my ability, as a white male is exactly the same as any other racial profile family. Obama saw that Republican senators were endorsing a deal that included far more revenue, and knew there was no way he could sell the grand bargain to his liberal base. When he came back with a counteroffer, seeking a higher revenue number, it validated Cantor’s warnings about not trusting the president. And by that point Boehner’s members had heard enough about the grand bargain to know they didn’t like it—with the $800 billion revenue figure, much less something higher.

So the deal fell apart, and the two sides peddled their competing versions of events: Boehner’s team said the White House moved the goal posts, while Obama’s allies said the speaker couldn’t sell his own members on the deal.

I'm not all that interested in party affiliations in this case.

What bothers me is mostly the public reactions coming from Hollywood. People who have known for years and couldn't be arsed to speak up.

And I'm not talking about the victims of this, I'm talking about the high profile male folks. Especially those guys who now come out with lines like "as a father of a daughter" -- are they such sociopaths that they need a daughter to give them a moral compass?

Also, what are the odds that Weinstein is the only "open secret" of this kind? Which is the kind of question that was asked when authorities were finally going after Polanski, because people knew about that shit as well and didn't say a word.

Canadian devil's advocate here.

We've got incredibly strict gun laws up here by comparison to the US. So our country has done the 'more than nothing' on gun laws. 3 days before the LA shooting we had a terror attack up here in Edmonton but the attacker used vehicles and a knife.

If we accept the rationale that current levels of freedom to own guns is leading to higher body counts and that restricting those freedoms will reduce body counts, that rationale is slippery.

Here's the parallel.

Because, the Attacker in Edmonton was a Somali refugee. They had an ISIS flag in their car. The US tried to extradite him before Canada welcomed him with open arms. Canadian police even investigated him before when a co-worker reported him advocating genocidal ideas about Shiite scum.

We had a lot of potential red flags that we could have acted harder on or used for profiling and in this case having him in jail would've prevented the attacks.

The thing is, it is NOT immediately self evident that restricting those freedoms is objectively the best answer.

Personally, banning automatic weapons as my country has seems a very sane thing to do. Countering myself though, would the Catalonians in Spain be getting beaten up for holding a vote if the residents had automatic weapon in their basements or would the police show a little more respect to the citizen's than they did?

Exactly, if you have cameras that are controlled by the very people monitoring them, then you might as well not have them.

How many times have we heard "the vehicle/body camera was 'malfunctioning':, "Oh, the officers had them turned off", or "The data storage was 'corrupted' before it could be accessed?"

I mean we just recently had a women shot and killed by the police when she reported a sexual assualt. The officers hadn't turned on their cameras so we may never know the truth.

If you want them to be effective, they must not be able to be turned off, they must transmit the data to a location that is independent of either the police or the DA until the data can be reviewed by someone not involved in the issue, and they must have a malfunction rate that is very low.

The only other alternative is to remove them and use the extra money to pay for officers that are actually qualified to be an officer, plus they must undergo rigorous psychiatric profiling every so often.
