Remembering Some Of the Most Notorious Videosift Shills (History Talk Post)

chingalera says...

copious amounts of booze-Yes, and less and less with aview to healing balm rather than backhand or palm-I do become ornery with predictable, lop-sided scripts:
Always detest the 'ganging-up' on the devout be they Christian or other-Guilty of the same-
Always protect the wiles of the underdogs, enjoy the company of others so sensitive
Have tried to maintain a finger pointed at myself when accusing or implying that others are guilty of same-such, it's called a mirror that reflects the worst in oneself for all to see in themselves.

I'm wrong most of the time but my instincts are keen and I can smell bullshit a mile off before it fucks me from now on. Sorry if I'm hard to manage, the stalwarts should have figured me for an ok guy by now.

23andMe, FDA and DNA health profiling

bremnet says...

I used 23andMe for analysis of my saliva. The DNA is mine, what I choose to do with the information is my choice alone. Same as palm reading and seeing a psychic (if that's what you're into), or peeing into a cup - I can act on the information or not, my choice. If the FDA is so worried about and more importantly has time and money to spend engaging this company on the possible health effects of users who act on the information, I'd say their priorities are fucked up or at least their motivation is unclear.

Point of contrast - here's another product that can possibly cause harm, but were's the cease and desist for this one? I can go down to the corner store and buy a known to be addictive product, with labels that indicate "Smoking Kills", but the tobacco companies are still free to sell it and go about their business. The accuracy of the tests conducted on addiction, health effects etc. related to tobacco are still in debate. You know "We're still working on it". We choose whether we want to use this product, even though it doesn't only put the users life at risk (presumably) but also those around the user (presumably), same as we choose what do with 23andMe reports. However, I'd wager the known risks and costs associated with allowing tobacco use to continue is orders of magnitude higher than it ever will be for the 400,000 or so customers that have used 23andMe to sequence a portion of our genome. Why don't we work on the hard & obvious problem first?

Tempest in a tea cup.

ps. I wonder what the ulterior motive is? Perhaps the FDA is in cahoots with Monsanto in planning copyright on specific genetic sequences for humans, as they do now for crops. Hmmm... they could call it the Soylent Green experiment.

Siouxsie & The Banshees - Israel [HD]

chingalera says...

Little orphans in the snow
With nowhere to call a home
Start their singing, singing
Waiting through the summertime
To thaw your hearts in wintertime
That's why they're singing, singing

Waiting for a sign
To turn blood into wine
The sweet taste in your mouth
Turned bitter in its glass

Israel, in Israel
Israel, in Israel

Shattered fragments of the past
Meet in veins on the stained glass
Like the lifeline in your palm
Red and green reflects the scene
Of a long forgotten dream
There were princes and there were kings

Now hidden in disguise
Cheap wrappings of lies
Keep your heart alive
With a song from inside

Even though we're all alone
We are never on our own
When we're singing, singing

There's a man who's looking in
And he smiles a toothless grin
Because he's singing, singing
See some people shine with glee
But their song is jealousy
Their hate is clanging, maddening

In Israel
Will they sing Happy Noel
In Israel, in Israel
Israel, in Israel
In Israel
Will they sing Happy Noel

Michael Hastings: Police and Fire TOLD not to comment

chingalera says...

They had his phones, computers tapped is a given. He pissed off a military general enough for that putz to lose his stride-The engines' behind a car that's burning in a hotter-than-normal pool and there's no skid marks. The accident occurred while he was leaving the club strip @ 4 a.m-ish??

Now go look at a picture of the general-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_McChrystal

Kinna looks like the kind of person who wouldn't flinch while twisting a recon-tanto into your guts in front of your entire family, eh? I believe I recognize the countenance of a sociopath when I see one-(beady-little fucking eyes, locked-jaw, Ohhhhh look, and he fought with pride in all the noble wars-

Operation Desert Shield
Operation Desert Storm
Operation Enduring Freedom
Operation Iraqi Freedom

What the fuck just happened?? What happened to Hastings is called a "hit" in one industry and a black operation in another. Orrrrr Hastings was partying harder than he ever thought possible and hit a palm tree at maximum speed causing his engine and drive train to shoot-out backwards and his car asploded??

Friendly Korean Checks to See if Owl is Still Alive

artician says...

Poor thing.

Where I grew up we used to have sparrows and woodpeckers fly into the glass doors of our house, knocking themselves out like this. My mother would always go outside and sit, holding them in the palms of her hands to keep them warm until they came to. They'd usually wake up really dazed and it would take a few minutes for them to get a clear enough head to fly off, but it was a nicer way of bringing them about than tapping them on the chest while leering over them with a cell camera. Hehe.

Obama is NOT the 'Change' We Believed In

Face palm. Really? It's only the shady people that are sweating this. A bit naive don't you think? Im guessing your way of thinking and the others that share your feelings is exactly what the government counts on to help them get away with this type of thing.

Lentil soup (food for sifting) (Food Talk Post)

oritteropo says...

I like to make my own stock from my veggie peelings and trimmings, I simmer them with a bay leaf and it ends up working pretty well.

Other times I use Massel veggie stock in a tin - http://www.massel.com.au/products/stock_powder.shtml - it's hard to find ones which don't have either MSG (I don't like the chemically after taste of MSG) or palm oil or trans fats (from Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil for instance) but that one is pretty good.

Another nice soup is spring vegetable soup, like this one:
http://www.jamieshomecookingskills.com.au/recipe.php?title=spring-vegetable-bean-soup

Or for the left over split red lentils, these koftesi have almost the same ingredients as the soup but make a quite different meal:
http://vegweb.com/recipes/kirmizi-mercimek-koftesi-red-lentil-burgers

Finally, a hearty soup for carnivores is Scotch broth:
http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/lamb-recipes/scotch-broth-with-winter-root-veg

It's interesting you mention Tamari, my Dad uses gravy powder in his veggie soup Strangely, the gravy powder I have is vegan... not sure how that works, but it tastes spot on.

chingalera said:

MMmmmmm... a few things to consider adding to a basic water/oil/savories type stock for anyone not wanting to use meat or chicken:

Tamari, Bragg's All-Purpose Seasoning, or there's this really good brand of vegetarian boullion Better Than Boullion, comes in about 5 varieties, including lobster and shrimp-You might also try some Traditional Molé, the Mexican paste used for tamales and other dishes...

This is a great basic procedural for most broth based, hearty soups-Nice one, oritteropo

Mmmmmm, loves me some Split Pea Soup now that I'm thinking about it....

Maher exposes Republicans Secret Rules

bareboards2 says...

@eric3579, here is a transcript. So you can get the info without the annoying delivery:

And finally, New Rule: there are scandals, and then there are scandals. And perspective is important. Yes, to explain Benghazi, Susan Rice used talking points. But at least she didn't have to read them off her hand! [graphic of Palin looking into her palm]

Now this week, someone was taken off a cross-country flight in handcuffs for singing "I Will Always Love You" for three straight hours. And that's still fewer times has said "Benghazi". I've seen this woman [Megyn Kelly] say Benghazi on my TV so many times, I don't know if it's a problem with the set, or I'm in an Asian horror movie, and there's a monster named Benghazi.

Congressman and friend of Real Time Darrell Issa is the Chairman of the Oversight Committee, and as most Californians know, he made his fortune in car alarms. And now, ironically, has become a loud, repetitive, but ultimately pointless device that you wish to God someone would shut off so you could get some sleep. (audience applause)

But here's the difference between Darrell Issa and a car alarm. Sometimes when a car alarm goes off, there's an actual crime. I keep looking for the crime here, I feel like Reese Witherspoon arguing with the cop. Why are you arresting me? Susan Rice said "mob" instead of "al-Qaeda"? Obama said "act of terror" instead of "terrorist act"?

Republicans are constantly coming up with these never before stated secret rules, that they only tell you about once you've broken them.

"You don't make important speeches from a teleprompter!"

OK.

"No golfing until we have a budget!"

All right.

"Thou shalt not criticize the President when he's on foreign soil, unless he's a Democrat, of course, then it's OK."

Congressman Peter King thundered that the President was almost four minutes into his first Benghazi statement before he mentioned an act of terror! Ah yes, the four-minute rule. Fuck, how could I forget?!

'Scuse me, Nixon ran a burglary ring out of the Oval Office. Reagan traded arms with terrorists. Bush ginned up a war where thousands died by sending Colin Powell to lie to the UN with props, remember that? He turned an American hero into General Carrot Top! But I let it go. I said this is the business we've chosen.

But please, don't tell me that freedom died because Susan Rice broke the scared bond between citizens and talk shows. In a poll this week, 4 in 10 Republicans said Benghazi is the worst scandal in American history. Second worst? Kanye West snatching the mic from Taylor Swift.

If you think Benghazi is worse than slavery, the Trail of Tears, Japanese internment, Tuskegee, purposefully injecting Guatemalan mental patients with syphilis, lying about WMDs, and the fact that banks today are still foreclosing on mortgages they don't own, then your hard-on for Obama has lasted more than four hours, and you need to call a doctor. (wild audience cheering and applause)

And while the press has been occupied with scandal, the biggest scandal, and the most important story of the century so far, happened last week. Scientists reported that the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has passed the long-feared milestone of 400 parts per million. And unless you're a chimney sweep, that's bad news. Because humans have never lived through it.

You think Susan Rice gave bogus talking points about Benghazi? What about the bullshit talking points the entire Republican Party has been spewing on climate change since the 90s? (audience applause)

I wanna see the e-mails to find out who came up with the talking points that global warming is just a theory, and that it needs more study, and climate change is a hoax. The Obama administration isn't dirty, the air is.

Demons Caught on Tape

Moron Drives New Car Into Traffic From Showroom.

How does he do it?

pmkierst says...

Yah, do it with zero cuts, an a lot less of 'magic hands', where you kinda make unnatural looking clenched palms, and less of moving your hands in unnatural ways that looks like you are hiding something. It all makes it look fishy instead of amazing. Of course, if you are trying to make a geometry trick instead look like *you* did something, then maybe adding magic flourishes is the thing, I suppose.

Slapped Awake For 15 Days

chingalera says...

Are you insane? The first thing I thought of when I saw that cactus fool was lacerated liver or kidney. This girl din't even sharply slap her man....

My mom used to wake me up tickling me-One day I woke up to an open-palmed slammer and came to and she told me that she had already tried waking me up 3 times, I had slapped her on the third try (waking sleep reaction) and her immediate response had me on my feet wondering, "WTF?!!"
