The original Matthew McConaughey car commercial

Xaielao says...

I'm still puzzled how this guy went from the laughing stock as an actor to an Oscar winner and toast of Hollywood. Did he make a deal with Satan or something?

WTF Happened to PG-13?

HenningKO says...

Perhaps this is the era of throwaway blockbuster fluff because studios are responding to the reality of ratings and market... because a mediocre movie at PG13 is a surer bet than a possibly amazing, possibly a flop R movie. Now, after PG13 has sunk in a while, the studios are no longer cutting back R movies to be PG13, they simply are not funding the R movies to begin with.

How is the oscar Rs example flawed? He just showed the numbers... the majority of oscar winners in the time since 84 were R-rated.

ChaosEngine said:

This is kinda hilarious in that his central argument is that the "art" of some movies is ruined due to a PG 13 rating, when 99% of his examples are throwaway blockbuster fluff anyway.

His example of the Oscars is even more flawed, in that the majority of "good" movies tell an adult story and use sex or violence to serve the story, not the other way around.

The one thing I do find disturbing is sanitisation of violence as in the new Robocop. I watched the original Robocop as a kid (yes, I was too young for it). The violence is horrifying. But the new one is "safe" for kids in that you see tonnes of guys getting shot with no blood. How is that better? If you're going to depict violence on screen, it should be violent!

Should VideoSift have a 'game room?' (User Poll by kronosposeidon)

campionidelmondo says...

I wouldn't mind a game room, but there are so many flash game sites out there I don't see how VideoSift would be special in any way. In addition, hosting flash based games would only increase the traffic and I don't think that's a good idea considering the current situation.

However, in terms of games, there's something that would interest me:

While watching the Academy Awards I thought "Wouldn't it be neat to be able to bet on the oscar winners using power points as currency?" That's just one example, but involving the use of power points might be a bigger incentive to sign up for a basic or even charter account.

Russell Crowe talks about South Park

Eklek says...

The finalization of Russell Crowe's Australian citizenship was delayed on Wednesday, because officials couldn't finish the paperwork in time. After Crowe was born in New Zealand capital, Wellington, his parents moved to Australia when he was a young child, and he has lived there ever since. The Oscar winner was set to become an official Aussie at a ceremony at Canberra's Parliament House on live television on Wednesday, until it was cancelled at the last minute. A spokeswoman for broadcasters Ten says, "The producers did look into it as part of the telecast but the Government wasn't able to facilitate the process in time. He's keen but they couldn't do it in time. There are obviously certain protocols that need to be adhered to."

Oscar Flashback: Michael Moore tells the truth, gets booed

Oscar Flashback: Michael Moore tells the truth, gets booed

BicycleRepairMan says...

The booers are just expressing their freedom of speech, same as Mr. Moore.

I never claimed otherwise, I mentioned the booing because its a) highly unusual to boo at an oscar winner and b)He was right back then, and this clip shows how far the corporate,GOP dildo was pounded up the ass of the American people only 4 years and 700.000 dead people ago. Funny how times change.

Probably the Worst Gaming Peripheral Ever

lucky760 says...

I can see a kid being excited to try something like that (e.g., the NES Powerglove I got as a youngin'), but that laundry list of caveats and restrictions by itself is a enough to drive you nuts. You have to stand away for 20 seconds to recalibrate every time you start the Genesis? Sheesh. Those two Oscar-winners did a great job of selling it too. They didn't look awkward or uncomfortable at all.
