Republican Tax Scam Is Handwritten Nonsense

moonsammy says...

You're actually calling the Democrats in congress obstructionists? I'm reasonably certain we have as many federal vacancies as we do largely due to the Republican congress of the past several years doing their damnedest to block every single thing Obama tried to get done. That accusation is phenomenally hypocritical. I certainly acknowledge the current congressional Democrats have been voting no or voting to not proceed quite a bit lately, but they've also been cut off from the process of lawmaking to the highest degree possible. You can't expect cooperation from people that you don't even let sit at the table while laws are being drafted and discussed.

That last word was a joke of course - there's been damn near no discussion of this bill. The last time the United States had a major tax overhaul was also under republican oversight, in 1986. During the course of creating that legislation they took over 6 months and had more than a dozen hearings on it, ensuring reasonable transparency. This latest bill was slapped together over a few weeks and had a completely opaque process.

You claim the Democrats "fucked Americans" because they added 8 trillion to the debt. My understanding is this bill, over the next 10 years, will add a minimum of another trillion. The fact that it's so negative overall will also, due to existing law, require a balancing by way of cutting other programs - Medicaid at the least is expected to see major cuts, just as a side effect of this bill. Of course, it isn't really a side effect per se, they just couldn't get enough R votes if they either made the necessary changes to keep the bill deficit-neutral or included the provision that would've waived the mandatory cuts. So it's laughable to claim the current Republicans in congress really have an interest in being fiscally conservative or even moderate.

I'm likely wasting my time here though, as I don't think you're actually interested in engaging in an honest conversation, nor do you seem to be open to changing your viewpoint at all. I wonder though whether you know enough about politics from the last several decades to have a guess as what Republicans from the Reagan era would think about how things are being done today. My guess is they'd be appalled, but perhaps I'm overestimating them.

No Dem would vote for it-- They are obstructionists.

At least Democrats had an hour to bitch ..

The AHA ( Obama Care) had to be passed to see what was in it.

To be fair. Democrats controlled most of the last 8 years and did nothing about tax reform. Shame on them. Sucks sitting at the back of the bus. --That"s what happens when you fuck Americans and heap 8 Trillion onto the debt. YOU LOOSE.

Republican will save the day , again.

Tesla Predicts a 2 Car Crash Ahead of Driver

even cooler, as of a recent update the Tesla can actually bounce radar underneath and around the car ahead to the one in front of it (albeit probably at a lower resolution)
"Taking this one step further, a Tesla will also be able to bounce the radar signal under a vehicle in front - using the radar pulse signature and photon time of flight to distinguish the signal - and still brake even when trailing a car that is opaque to both vision and radar."

lucky760 said:

I think the Tesla must've been watching the back-end of the SUV through the windows of the car behind and detected the distance between them was closing too quickly. And maybe it also took into account that the brake lights were firing.

In any case, freaking awesome safety technology. Wish I had it.

President Trump: How & Why...

newtboy says...

*tripplepromote
Come on Sifty....try something new.

All the polls weren't wrong....the ones taken during the primary were dead on...the dozens that had Clinton tying or loosening to Trump, and showed Sanders winning by a landslide.

I totally blame the DNC and Clinton herself, they guaranteed this result by cheating during the primaries (and losing the votes of those they cheated) then rewarding the cheaters with top paid positions in her campaign. There was absolutely zero chance of her winning after that, and before that she only had a 50/50 chance. On top of that, it was 100%foreseeable that there would be an accusation <2weeks before the election, and no way for her to defend against it, because she's untrustworthy and opaque. Also, no one on the planet could have done more to energize the Republicans...she was their 'get out and vote', and it worked far better than the Democrat's enormous ground game. Turn those blame cannons around, Dems. This is on you.

Youtube: Blocking Revenue is Censorship

Babymech says...

The most reasonable counterargument to this I've heard (and I'm not saying they're right, just eminently reasonable) was made yesterday by my favorite Canadian Let's Players:

1. Youtube has always had this content policy. Everyone who signs into the monetization program has always accepted this code of content before joining the monetization program.

2. Youtube has had this content practice for a long time. These videos were demonetized long before this recent 'scandal'. The only thing that has changed is that YT is now letting content creators know which videos were never being monetized in the first place.

3. It's not so much a question of content as it is of tags. The vast majority of content processing is based on the original tags by the uploaders, and you can avoid demonetization easily by having fewer, less controversial tags (that will also limit your viewership).

Obviously Youtube has been opaque and shitty in communicating how and why they make changes. But censorship? I would have a hard time going back in time to Bolshevik dissidents and telling them that censorship in the future means that a corporation that broadcasts your opinion for free won't always force other corporations to also pay you for those opinions.

*Edit: Also, eric3579's already got this shit covered, I just hadn't followed his links yet.

World's First $9 Computer

AeroMechanical says...

I think I'd still go with a Beagleboard Black. The thing you want is documentation and source code. I can't find any on Allwinner's site (and the other component's manufacturers aren't named), and given Allwinner is a Chinese company I wouldn't put a lot of faith in the English documentation. Likewise, the Broadcom SOC in the Raspberry Pi's full documentation is only available under NDA and then only to volume customers, which is BS (moreover, no source for the bare metal stuff--an opaque binary blob does that).

If you're selling something as an educational development platform, some things are a lot more important than a few dollar's savings.

Outstanding Time-Lapse of a Stellar Explosion From Hubble

deathcow says...

Secondary effects like this can actually appear to move faster than light speed.

Imagine if you had an infinitely powerful lantern just a foot across, and a opaque screen around it which exposes only half of the light. and spins once per second, creating... a rotating lighthouse effectively.

Now fly out 1 light year from that. At this distance, the rotating pattern of light and shadow is "moving" at 6.28 light years per second.
