This report is no extreme example of propagandizing or slant any more than it can be construed as objective observer-and-report journalism-I don;t know why everyone makes such a big fuss about how wonderful Al Jazeera is, breath-of-fresh-air, blah-blah-blah (folks have in the past, anyhow), it's owned by the Al Thani family's (of Qatar, an "absolute and hereditary emirate) 7th richest member.

NORAD is in Colorado and STILL reliant on other peoples observations. Is it possible for them to make a mistake based on faulty intelligence...ask anyone here who's been in the military.

Yes there's no chance that during a catastrophic never before experienced event that there would be "False Reports" or mistakes and misinformation. Human BEINGS making the observations and reporting them to other humans and making mistakes is not a good example of an organized conspiracy. It happens, in every facet of life.

I'd like to think that if I were a security guard in that situation I would say to myself "fuck all of the training, I don't care if I lose my job or get sued, I need to help this person". But then again I don't know what it's like to have it drilled into my head that your job is to observe and report violent crimes but never personally intervene.
And the fact that the attacker was backed up by a small gang of males in their teens and 20s gives me some sympathy for the security guards. She might not have been a threat to a an unarmed security guard, but her accomplices were.
Another fact from that article; two police officers had minutes before REFUSED the frightened girl's request to be escorted to the nearby bus tunnel (the one she was attacked in). They did however kick her and the gang that was harassing her out of Macy's and leave it at that. To me that's the real scandal.


There is a strategy for that; Use the most painful force you have at hand on the main assailant as a deterrent to the rest of the group. Have your partners hang back; ready to use their most painful physical force on the next person that comes to the main assailants aid. It is my experience that most mobs are easily deterred when you cause the leader to writhe in pain screaming "My Eyes! They burn!" In case you didn't know pepper spray has an area of effect, as well as a one target non lethal payload, and in closed spaces can incapacitate a whole room full of people.

Observe and report. I'm sorry to say, but in most cases a Security Officer cannot act; legally without consequences.

You can only use the force continuum to stop felonies. Rape, Assault, Theft, and Murder.

These guys, should have acted but probably did not have proper training to deal with this situation, or had explicit orders to Observe and Report.

I watched it again. They should have done something about this.

So theft and assault, you can use strong physical force to gain control of the situation.

IE: Skip the verbal and soft physical and go straight to pepper spray.

Former Private Security, we were all to ready to act in situations like this.

How can anyone put Observe and Report above Precious? As someone who has seen both films, I felt like Observe and Report was kitsch at best and doesn't deserve to be on the list at all.

That's actually what the left's organizations are putting out, that it's absolutely critical that we not match shouting with shouting, and fight the incivility with civility.

Like I said elsewhere, I think the right move is to just observe and report, and drive the narrative to be about the deceptiveness and crude anti-democratic nature of what's being done.

However, I do think it's worth noting that the right inciting angry mobs to intimidate our politicians and supporters in the hope of shutting down rational conversation crosses an important line between peaceful, rowdy political activism and thuggery and intimidation.

I can't imagine anyone who said anything like this or this would retain any kind of position of authority or respect in the progressive movement.

Fox News is already talking up this incident as if it's an example of Union "thugs" trying to beat down righteous protesters.

Why the hell can't we just have a public debate on the merits of the issue? I hunger for a real, reasonable debate, but it doesn't seem like the other side wants to engage on the merits, just with lies, fear, and now outright intimidation.
