Classic Fight

30 years later, Season 2 of The Mysterious Cities of Gold

Kreegath says...

I also cried, because I loved that show as a little kid when it aired in my country, watching it together with my siblings as we had an amazing adventure along with the characters of the show every single episode. The reason I'm crying now, however, is because:

Unlike the original series, this sequel is produced entirely in France; as a co-joint venture between the French television channel TF1, the Belgian channel La Trois, the French animation company Blue Spirit and Jean Chalopin's company Movie-Plus Group.
The first of the new seasons sees the series move to China. The design of the characters are more or less the same, although some subtle changes have been made to their physical appearances. Jean Chalopin and Bernard Deyries act as creative consultants on the new series, with Chalopin concentrating particularly on the scripts (which are written by Hadrian Soulez-Lariviere from Chalopin's own draft for the sequel) and Deyries focusing particularly on the graphical aspects. New background music is composed by Noam Kaniel.

It's not the same animation, it's not the same writers, it's not the same setting, it's not the same voice actors and it's not the same memorable music. Nothing's the same. It's the same feeling as with the Star Wars prequels if you can believe it, only with less source material. Maybe our children will enjoy this show without having the nostalgic baggage of "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" series; but for me as a fan of what must be 25 years or more, this just looks unwatchable.
Not everything good is made better by making more of it, and especially after a 30 year period of the series being over and done with. I think that the window of opportunity has passed on making another season of this show by a couple of decades, I think the season they're making looks inferior both in content and quality and I think the people who made the series work so well aren't being emulated, making this creation something akin to a stranger wearing a face mask of the show, something which is copying the names but is completely set apart from "The Mysterious Cities of Gold", with no legs of its own to stand on but only a cheap imitation crutch.

Little Girl and her Carpenter Pet Bee

I also feel that way about hired NPCs in video games.

They have NO CHOICE but to follow you around. And then they are doomed to a near eternity of no movement on a digital save that you play *maybe* once 10 years from now because you're feeling nostalgic.

But you don't remember how to play at the save point from 10 years ago because it's too hard and the last thing he does is die unmercifully before you eject the cartridge and toss the game back in storage.

What sort of hell is that, man? Much worse than injured carpenter bee land.

Imagine breaking your leg in a strange world and being taken by a giant insect 1000x your size... who feeds you mashed meat off the end of a tree trunk. Isolated from any one else... kept in confinement... and 'petted' by a giant antenna that could crush you at any moment.

I bet he's screaming for us to let him die.... If only we could hear...

oh i know that kiddo and my comment was not really directed to those people.
my comment was an over generalization in many ways.

i realize some have been harrassed and abused and were forced to use that option.

i was just bemoaning in a very public way a hypocrisy and bullying i found disturbing.so many voices have left due to this and i was waxing nostalgic over that loss.

its the anarchist in me =)

maybe my time here is over and i have said what i needed to say.time to pass the torch to another group.
i dunno...

i know you and your hubby were one of the good ones.miss both your voices.
stay awesome kiddo!

Everyone who uses that option has their own reason as to why they use it. Just a thought, it may or may not fit your idea as to why you think they use it.

Mein schadenfreude levels were going through die ceiling decke to expose a tragic ill fated fraudenschwindel by said "Teenbeat magazine" but alas the confirmation of an authentic nostalgic memory from a childhood past, allowed myself to be pleasantly satisfied.

The Internet circa 1995. Dial up, Pentiums, Giant CRTs, FTP

I recall it being:

Load "*" ,8 ,1
RUN

Probably only for that which was the sole app on the disk. Man, just typing that made me nostalgic.

That aside, I really miss the era of the BBS. Back before corporations and government stuck their dirty cocks in such a wonderful (albeit slow) world of user-created socialism. Share and share alike, and if someone caught you with a virus, you cursed just as much as you marveled at their engineering ingenuity.

Just you wait until they unveil the Bullfrog ball buster, with which they will require one of these installed hooked into origin at all times to not get your balls crushed while playing any EA games. It may seem draconian, but really, only pirates have anything to fear or if your internet goes down. Fun!

EA - ruining your nostalgia since you got nostalgic.

I remember when Origin was the premier developer; Wing Commander, Ultima, System Shock, Shadowcaster; then EA bought them. They gradually ruined all of their properties (Ultima 9, Privateer 2), then cancelled the sequels due to poor sales, then shuttered the studio. Now, as a final insult, they've cut off Origin's head and sewn it onto the body of a shitty DRM/DD system.

Holy shit, does EA suck.

Russian firefighters, just having some fun

I have no idea what's going on here. All I know is that hearing the spoken Russian language always makes me extremely-nostalgic for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of games.

a few things initially:
1) I can't see comments unless I click on the video's page. I really liked seeing comments inset on the sift scroll.
2) I can't "minimize" the video. This is necessary, as some videos load, and I queue them on the page, some take longer or I don't want them to load while others are loading, or I don't want them to load anymore after determining I don't want them to load as I load others.
3) Please tell me I can see longer descriptions ajax-style without needing to see the video's dedicated VideoSift page.

All in all, I love the style of Videosift v5. Any snapshots out there of what V1 and v2 looked like? I'm nostalgic.

They are vintage instruments, and I don't believe your standard music shop will repair them. Sometimes a little bit of pitcy-ness in vintage instruments is considered charming and nostalgic, hence the popularity of out of tune upright pianos in indy music. Also, overblowing or underblowing can push the instrument sharp or flat. >> ^chingalera:

So...whys the melodica kinna flat???
