Grappler Police Bumper - No more PIT maneuver

hazmat22 says...

Officers can and have been hit or killed while deploying spike belts and I'm not sure if they still try to shoot out tires these days.

The PIT maneuver can work quite well but different factors like speed, traffic and apparently trailers even can affect it.

I remember seeing this video years ago, this guy almost managed to defeat it on driving skills alone!

But who knows if this will perform well in real world situations, we might never see this on a real vehicle but I thought the idea was nifty!

Kitten - Cut It Out [Official Video]

WeedandWeirdness says...

Oh wow, I forgot that tastebuds.fm was even a thing, but checked it out, kinda nifty!! May be worth downloading the app noodle. I also have to agree that G# is better, but all the tracks on that EP are awesome sausage, especially Christina. So want to hear the history behind that one!!

Spacex - Successful Dragon orbit - Ocean Landing Stage 1 !!!

oritteropo says...

Two reasons - firstly and most importantly it would take too much fuel to return to the landing site from this mission's trajectory, and secondly using the barge “Of Course I Still Love You” means that they aren't risking the lives of their staff or the buildings around the launch facility. They actually discuss this in the video at one point.

The barge itself is pretty complicated too, using GPS and some nifty thrusters to stay within 3m of the intended landing site - http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/spacexs-landing-drone-ship-is-just-as-complicated-as-th-1769987148

If I didn't know better, I'd say they are playing the take-off footage in reverse so to make it look like a landing

A Real Folding Table

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

gorillaman says...

Well I don't entirely hate it, which is my usual reaction to change.

There's very little wasted space. It's much less cluttered and pretty intuitive; I thought I'd stumbled onto the mobile site by accident when I first saw it.

Not sure about the suggested videos - looks like you're just going to keep seeing the same ones from popular channels again and again. There's less space for the comments section which is surely bad. The various big buttons for facebook, twitter, etc. are garbage but I'll just adblock them. You can't see a video's channels and tags on its page or who's voted for it.

Putting a feed from the recent comments and the lounge in the discuss tab is big nifty. The minimised footer is a colossal improvement.

Overwatch Gameplay Trailer

Jinx says...

I thought she was cute and her catchphrase was suitably naff.

Although they do lose mayor points for calling one of their characters "Reaper". I think that's what I called myself at Laser Quest when I was 11 yrs old. Also he looks bullshit (starting early on that whining about Bliz balance).

So yah, Valve are kings of characterisation. I still won't knock Bliz for trying to give their characters...some character. The multicultural lineup of caricatures was a well established trope long before TF2.

All that aside, your comment wasn't simply that it lacked TF2's style and humour, you also dismissed any differences in gameplay. I am commenting on a gameplay video. My rant was more directed at this assumption that the game is the same as TF2, sans perhaps decent writing. I thought this trailer demonstrated some nifty looking mechanics that TF2 certainly doesn't have which were apparently overlooked in favour of pointing out that both games had turrets. or that it was "TF2 without style or humour".

I have nothing against Blizzard doing a TF2 style game.

It might even be good.

My comment was simply that TF2 has humour and style, something that (at least from the initial impressions) Overwatch lacks.

It's not bad, but it just clearly wants to ape TF2 in terms of the different accents, etc and it falls flat. Primarily because Blizzard suck at writing. See the cinematic trailer and their desperate attempt for that cockney girl to be cute and have a catchphrase.

Coolest dad ever builds luge track for kids in the backyard

Xaielao says...

My childhood father-in-law used to do these. Sometimes he'd build ones for the kids, and other times he'd build them in the open grassy areas were electric lines go up hills through woods. I live in a fairly mountainous area (upstate NY, not far from Catskills) so when he made those big 1/4 mile luge, they were fast as hell.

Night lighting is a pretty nifty idea.

How is the New Featured *Promote Panel (User Poll by lucky760)

MrFisk says...

I've got an interesting idea: have a separate tab for watched videos, and a separate tab for unwatched videos. This way, you could have easier and more prominent access to the videos you haven't seen, a nifty place to find videos you had seen (this would awesome!), and you wouldn't have so many videos cluttering a page.
Then just increase the number of videos allowed on a page, and go back to the old version of promote viewing.
