Can we make a sift for flash games? (Geek Talk Post)

But doesn't Kongregate and Newgrounds limit the voting only to games that they host? I don't think the sift would have to post all the games, just provide a system for linking/commenting. I do like Kongregate, but it feels very hit or miss as far as it comes to liking the stuff that is popular. I think the sift community would suit my taste better.

Thoughts on the Top 15 (Sift Talk Post)

The reason that the top 15 is cool- is because a video does stay around for a while and gets more attention. It becomes a focal point for the community with an interesting comment thread evolving around it.

If you shorten the time that a video gets to live in the top 15, you'll have higher turnover of videos, sure- but overall it will be less interesting as an achievement.

True enough, but videos only last a day or three at most on there now because the timer starts counting at queue date. I think change to 3days from publish time. Vids will still hang out for a while on there, but more vids will have a chance to make it.

This discussion reminds me of an idea that was mentioned before. What if videos that made top15 had a little medal designating their top15 status? This system of special achievement awards works very well on Newgrounds. Why not here?

Also, Where are we advertising? The sifters have proven willing to put some money into the site. Should we consider putting more of the word out so we can draw some new visitors? Heck, Newgrounds did it by giving out stickers to people willing to post them on their campuses. Can we come up with some ideas to plaster our areas of influence with Videosift ads (other than our fantastic T's)?
Let's think of new ways to gather new traffic. If it means Google Ads, how much does that cost? If it means stickers for colleges, what will that run per hundred? How about widgets for bloggers' web-pages: "Top 10 videosift videos today" widget? etc. etc. Where are we linked back? Have we ever sought actual MSM attention?... Neatorama recently got a spot on CNN online... How can we venture into that realm that is the top 100 visited websites?
We are the youtube sifted to finer purity. If youtube can wind up on the mainstream news, we can too.
Allies such as Neatorama and such will also be valuable in that sort of outreach. We should reach out to the other major blogs that each of us knows of to spread.

Anyway, a community-wide ad-campaign would obviously benefit. We have enough dedicated contributers to initiate more widespread advertisement to blogs and independent free advertisement.

A great animation video that can't be posted... (Sift Talk Post)

I would PM the newgrounds member as well and ask if it's cool to convert it to a new format. Many would say "go for it" so long as I still get credit. Some might say no though and you'd have to cave. You might also have to read NewGrounds' legal faq or that sort of thing. There are a number of classics from that site that I looked for to add to the sift, but only a rare few were converted and not well.
