Chemical Treatment: Secret of Stradivarius

chingalera says...

Someone needs to be making violins, guitars, etc. with the recovered wood from the great lakes. Incredibly preserved hardwoods cured and petrified in the icy waters of Lake Superior-These instruments in the hand of master luthiers will survive 300+ years sounding better every year.....

Read-up....

There have been many attempts to copy the techniques used by Stradivarius, and some of the results have been really good violins... but until now, as far as I know, none of them would ever be mistaken for the real thing.

Gibson guitars now tune themselves robotically

Told Baristan to check out a guitar I fell in love with the second I picked it up and played it- Tom Anderson Guitarworks-Small-batch luthier, he cut his teeth on his process with Gibson and Fender I believe, incredible axe, but you wait and pay for it.

Lifetime instrument though, really really want one eventually. That and an SG-(with a triple-stack of 57' Classic Plus Humbuckers)

Similar to this one...even has a tremolo

Hmm, kinna dig the lime as well, and that Bigsby Tremolo adds a retro feel to it....Really like the look of that Bigsby now....

my general rule of thumb for an electric is heavy and solid is better. ever played an Anderson??

Guy used to luthier at both Fender and Gibson, has his own gig now-Very limited output, special order, that kinnna thing.

Dude....You'll never wanna pick up another electric again. Feels like a hot chick on yer crotch, sexy as FUCK! Worth the investment if yer serious.

Again though, you do pay for the extra attention to materials and detail in craftmanship-They start at around 2K now.

Building a Cello

^Talked to a luthier friend of mine. They're typically poppy seeds because they're so light, and the person carving the top is looking for certain symitries and shapes. Sometimes a tuning fork is used to impart a specific fequency to the top, allowing the maker to "tune" it.

Just thought I'd like to know.

reactable: basic demo #1

coreburn says...

From the YouTube page:
"The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.

This instrument is being developed by a team of digital luthiers (Sergi Jordà , Martin Kaltenbrunner, Günter Geiger and Marcos Alonso), at the Music Technology Group within the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain."

There's already another video on here about this table. This one explains what the different objects do and how they are used.

Bob Taylor Guitars - Factory Tour

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Interesting. I've always wanted to make my own guitar. i even checked out a book on luthiering, but decided it was much more expensive than actually buying a good guitar.

As a Martin owner, I should probably point out that Taylor's are made by the devil.
