RoboCop - Reboot Trailer

EvilDeathBee says...

What do I get from this trailer?

PG-13 "death" scene. All he does is get blown up in a car, not the extremely violent and painful death of Alex Murphy from the original film goes through, the trigger in him remembering his previous life and becoming more than just an emotionless robot/cyborg. The trigger in this? His family. Yawn. They turn one of the most important scenes from the original into "boom". Also leads me to believe this'll be a PG-13 puss-fest.

Face time! The vanity of celebrities or producers that think they need to have the star's face plastered throughout the entire film (massive props for Karl Urban and the director of Dredd for sticking with the fact Dredd never shows his face). In the original, once he was RoboCop, you only ever see his face until the end. It was a good visual reminder to the audience that he was human, to reinforce that now he's reclaiming some of humanity.

It IS a powersuit. Rather than literally being a human brain in a robot as the original is, you see it's just a guy in a suit with a robot leg and arm (his bare hand and his "face in a helmet" looks ridiculous). Kinda weakens the human mind battling the robot programming aspect of the plot. Especially considering it seems he's all emo as soon as he wakes up "What have you done to me! WAH WAH!"

Where's the satire? Sure it may be hard to wedge in satirical aspects in a trailer, but I have a feeling there'll be none of it in this one. The tone is completely different and feels very generic.

Granted this is just a trailer, but it feels like this is nothing more than a generic action movie with the same name as an old beloved cult classic. I'm not against reboots, but if you plan to reboot something successful, two things need to be kept in tact: The tone and feel, and key aspects to the plot. I'd love to see more RoboCop, this isn't it.

Matthew Good Band - Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts

BoneRemake says...

It gets dark around here early Sometimes the moon will follow you in the middle of the day Waiting to be found, we were just standing around With nothing really much to say
I didn't know any better You didn't think that we should Said we're gonna burn down the night I wanna be misunderstood All four wheels across the pavement We used to live in black and white I only think about tomorrow so it'll get me through the night
CHORUS And I ain't laughing and I ain't joking anymore I keep my footsteps to the ground I keep my eyes glued to the floor Somewhere in between only the stunners dream on this side of midnight
And maybe we're just crazy Maybe we're better off dead Maybe things will never change Maybe you've got it backwards in your head The Last of the Ghetto Astronauts won't be ignored Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before
It gets dark around here early [ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-last-of-the-ghetto-astronauts-lyrics-matthew-good-band.html ] Sometimes there's more to the moon then just one man can see The voice without a name cries silent just the same, just the same way If I didn't know any better I'd say that maybe we all should When the morning comes around Don't wanna be misunderstood Sleeping on the pavement thinking everything's all right Waiting for tomorrow to get us through tonight
CHORUS
Been walking with the giants Been sleeping in a town without a name Been holding on to your arms and legs Your arms and legs cause Nobody here wants to put you back together again Together again, together again, together again
And maybe we're just crazy Maybe we're better off dead Maybe things will never change Maybe you've got it backwards in your head The Last of the Ghetto Astronauts won't be ignored Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before Said I'm gonna go where no one has gone before No one, no one

This proves my holy Book was right all along. And no, I am not talking about the Bible, I'm talking about the Great Book of Space Pool. Which says that the creator of all things, the three legged, three armed space pool player called Zn'oort created life on earth by playing nine ball in space with asteroids and meteroids. And, well, we all know the rest.

Yeah, and I gotta clean it all up afterwards.

Cop beats Iraqi war vet

Lawdeedaw says...

>> ^Porksandwich:
Hell if those cops had been white I think this guy could ask for double what he's seeking at the moment. Betting he gets 5-10 mil though. Big cop should be facing criminal charges, but he'll probably just lose his job and go to a small town in another state to continue on. Little cop should lose his job as well, unless he's reported his partner for anger issues in the past and been ignored...then he might be looking at a pay day too if they decide to take action on him.
Guy getting the shit kicked out of him needs to sue em both after he's done with the big money trial against the department/government, put some financial hurt on them. The guy whipping his legs with that baton after he's cuffed, and focusing on his head at the beginning is bad news. He was looking to cause damage and pain to him and not in a subduing way. In a knock him out or make him beg kind of way.

Your post is very...uninformed... The agressive cop will most likely face criminal charges so the department will not hold the brunt of the lawsuit. This is a fairly recent change that came about as departments have been forced to take responsibilty. We had a guy down here pull a DUI woman out of her car (through the window) because she intended to drive off. Of course her door was locked... He lost his job, but did not go to jail. Why? Because she could have killed him. That fact did not prevent his job security... Still, in this case there is no chance for the victim to hurt the police.

Departments do not "feel the hurt" financially, ever. They do feel the brunt of politicians who turn on them and get their leadership fired.

Longer vid here, including more context and what happens next:
The cops continue to beat him and kick him after he's handcuffed and lying in the fetal position on the floor. Give the man his $35 million.
>> ^Lawdeedaw:
You mean sadist idiot. The other was a passive idiot. But I am sure you counted the one cop that was there and who was a sadist.
At any rate, my view is to lock up the cop in this one. Fire the other cop if he did not report the abuse.
But the victim wants 35 million dollars from a lawsuit?! I could see if the victim's legs and arms were sawed off with a dull knife, but there is no excuse to give him 35 million dollars of taxpayers' money. Even if his civil rights were violated---if the cop is trained not to act in this manner and the department can prove such, and if the the department can prove they disciplined the cop properly, this greedy hat won't get much. I assume the department will settle out of court because lawsuits cost more than the payout would probably be... Just another sap looking for a free ride.
Thank god for cameras though.

Thanks for the new vid. I did kind of address the lawsuit issue more in the above quote. Call your congressman or woman, sue the officers, and be done with it.

Six Pack Abs Work Out

fdisk says...

I'm no expert, but I feel compelled to comment based on the training classes I have taken recently.

Sit ups just target one area. Most of those go for different parts so I disagree with budzos on that.

I would agree with doing this once every two days for the casual exerciser. I have also read that the abs are already there, you just need to see them so I agree with budzos on not eating like a pig. There are a lot of other parts of the body to exercise so even if you are ripped I think you'd stop at multiple times every other day.

Core is important but this ignores the back. You are more efficient once your midsection can take whatever your legs and arms can dish out.

I read that muscles build through strain and repair. That is how they get bigger. Many muscle people work out to failure and then let that part rest a day to build. Some work out every day but do different parts of the body in rotation to allow healing. That would make failure in moderation the key.

I am always told while doing the ab workouts to suck in my gut. It is harder that way, but the results are better and it seems to help me target the individual muscle groups.

That's it. Flame away.

The Art of Haggis

gwaan says...

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o' need,
While thro' your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An' cut you up wi' ready sleight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like ony ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn,
they stretch an' strive:
Deil tak the hindmost! on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve,
Are bent lyke drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
"Bethankit!" 'hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi' perfect sconner,
Looks down wi' sneering, scornfu' view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him ower his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank, a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro' bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll mak it whissle;
An' legs an' arms, an' heads will sned,
Like taps o' thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer,
Gie her a haggis!

like it snaremop. as you said the legs and arms can be made smaller. how about some eyeballs? also, have you tried keeping the arms and legs metalic colour with boots and gloves ( say black for the boots and the same blue colour as the handle for the glove colour).

like the idea of mona lisas head popping out the top of the art logo.
