Promoting discarded videos back to life and dupes (Sift Talk Post)

notarobot says...

Back then I did not know how to cry foul. I wanted to see that video was on the sift, and now it is. I have since posted other videos related to the same subject matter.

I know better now, and have worked hard to be able to promote and *quality the videos and discussion I think are worth having. What keeps me around here is the comments videos inspire. I gain nothing by eliminating that. I have no intention of performing such a resurrection, or robbing @supersaiyan93 of votes. I just thought it was an example worth pointing out of misuses of power points. >> ^gwiz665:
The laws of the land were different back then, but that was indeed a wrongful discard. You should have cried foul back then, I think it would be not-nice to resurrect it now to grab the votes. >> ^notarobot:
A while back, when I was new, I posted a videothat was discarded by someone who erroneously declared it to be a dupe without even watching it. That same video has since been reposted and presently has 53 votes.
Now that I have privileges, do I promote my old vid to get the votes dupeof'd onto mine, or do I preserve the comments on the current vid that did not fall victim to mistaken discarding by leaving it alone?

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people." -=- Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture.

Glad you liked it. You are certainly not alone in admiring Dr. Pausch. I tried a while back to get his Last Lecture on here. I was very happy to see you posting it. It is among my favorite talks on the interweb.

Not sure if you're interested, but I came across another speech by Randy Pauch. This one is shorter.

Thank you very much for bringing that video to my attention. I upvoted it. I admire the hell out of that man.

This video isn't showing up - can someone fix the embed code?
*dead

But also, this precedes a likely dupe:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Last-Lecture-of-Randy-Pausch
Which should be discarded. But I don't suggest as yet, as the code for this is dead.

I suggest and request:

  1. Fix this code;
  2. Discard the other.

Before I did though, because of the exceptional circumstance of the coincidence of coinciding events, I wanted to be sure it was okay (deads, dupes and discards are an explosive mix) and have the proper oversight.

That is all. And thanks.

While submitting this, I discovered that other, shorter, videos have already been submitted about the "Last Lecture" including an abridged version on Oprah. I feel that if videos about the last lecture are here the full, original, lecture should be here too.
