What The F*** Is That? - Funny Ass Reaction From Gramps

yellowc says...

It's not like these guys never listen to music at a reasonable level, usually what comes a long with a hobby like this is the process to the end result.

Endlessly tinkering with new parts and doing all the wiring, tuning etc, it can be a fun hobby. So the enjoyment comes from seeing how all that came together, they're not listening and going "Wow these are really great lyrics", they're thinking "Fucking A, that speaker really booms! I think I can do X with it though!" or however they talk.

There is also something to be said about feeling + hearing sound, the effect at a concert is probably a more palatable experience for the majority of us but this experience isn't far removed from that effect.

>> ^ToastyBuffoon:

Call me old fashioned (I'm up there in age but not as old as "Gramps"), but I just don't understand this shit. What is so wonderful about vibrating your entire car to the point of not understanding one friggin' word or anything else music related with the song you are playing? I enjoy a bit of heavy bass with the music of my choice, but that crap completely ruins the "enjoyment" part for me.

Live - White, Discussion

Great lyrics from this band. I was just singing this song to myself in a parking lot yesterday, thinking "Why am I singing this song? It's old and was never a big song to me, just some cut on a Live album." Guess it's just a good song.

Right on the money.

It´s amazing how each album has it´s own definite personality.
This song is great. Lyrics:

I am so glad you stuck true to your obsessions
and filed rest of questions under false
I am so glad you never took their offers
I am so glad you never returned their calls

Darling, darling, darling, darling...
My sacred darling

Darling, I believe that your obsession
is your only way out of here
It's your only spiritual condition
where heart and soul they cross-appeal

Darling, darling, darling, darling...
My sacred darling

So darling let's discuss our tactics:
I will be mad and you will be posessed
That is the only way to fight this world
Those are the only times when we are at our best

Darling, darling, darling, darling...
My sacred darling

The Beatles - Prodigies or Not?

^ They didn't become known for their songwriting until years after they became popular. Also, there are very few examples of good songwriting in those early songs (first 3 albums).

If you're trying to tell me that a song like "She loves you" became popular because of its great lyrics, you must be insane. For example:

She says she loves you
And you know that can't be bad.
Yes, she loves you
And you know you should be glad.

In the beginning the Beatles was, among other things, best known for their catchy melodies, which incorporated a lot of harmonies and a steady rhythm section. The most important reason they played so well together, both on stage and in the studio, was that they had a lot of practice at it. One random fact; their first album "Please Please Me" was recorded in less than 10 hours, so they obviously were great musicians and used to playing together. It wasn't until later (around the release of Rubber Soul" in 1965) that their lyrics really started getting excellent.
