Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins

newtboy says...

OK, I'm glad you tried though.
Actually I dismiss this as ignoring previous repeated public/biblical statements about god, Jesus, and the holy ghost being a single omniscient and omnipotent super being.
I've been told time and time again that Jesus "sacrificed himself for our sins". That means HE had control, obvious if he/3 is omnipotent, he has control over everything, knows everything, and free will is an illusion/lie...just like the cake. ;-) It simply can't be both ways. Either god is omnipotent or not. There's no such thing as 'partially omnipotent'....it's like saying 'part of infinity'....meaningless. (in case you are unaware, any portion of infinity is infinity)
If it was not intentional, and was all the doing of man, then Jesus didn't do anything FOR us in that death. So why do people thank him constantly? Why do people chastise others with 'Jesus died for your sins...so now you owe him your eternal gratitude'?
Man wouldn't need saving if god didn't CREATE sins to be avoided, or rules and rituals that must be observed (although oddly, every religion interprets the rules differently, even those that take the rules from the same book, which should be impossible if it's really the 'infallible word of god', no? Why would He make his definitive requirements so impossible to understand and follow, unless he's really closer to Loki in temperament and is really just screwing with us all), or punishment for being 'confused' about what's reality and what's not: Hell....or if god doesn't exist, or if god's existence and/or sin is unknown to a person.... (WHAT? What kind of rule system is that?) Reminds me of a joke too....

Aborigine asks the missionary :"So, you say God would not have punished us for sinning if we did not yet know about him or sin, and we would have all gone to heaven?"
Missioinary replies: "Yes, God is compassionate, and would not punish you for not knowing something you could not know, or not knowing rules you had not been taught."
Aborigine replies: "The why the f#ck did you tell us! Asshole!"

Well, its a pretty deep topic, that can't really be relegated to the comment section of a video hosting site, but just briefly, your first fallacy is that 'he sent himself to be tortured'. Humans tortured and killed Christ according to the story. You can dismiss this as stating that mankind is God's creation so its all some sort of torture circle jerk, but you missed the important element of free will, and that's the critical distinction. Man wouldn't need saving if man is just a puppet of a deity. There's all sorts of other things, including a pretty cursory understanding of the trinity that to me indicates that Hitchens spent too much of his life on the defensive against what he perceived, perhaps justifiably so, as a hostile religious society.

What this movie did was talus we should never take gratitude for granite. He'd have won in any quartz of public opinion, and furthermore is so impressive if any female judge presided, he'd have boulder over with his charms.

Amazing helicopter rescue of hiker stuck on cliff

cason says...

I always wonder in this and other similar rescue operations how people manage to get themselves into such predicaments. Sure, bad things happen that can't be prevented, I understand that, and have the utmost respect and gratitude for rescue operators....buuuut.... I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the times someone has done something stupid. I wonder if that frustration gets to them...

and dude... fuck your bag.

Tipping Servers $200

SFOGuy says...

It's not in other countries; European, for example. But here in the United States, it is.
Some people attribute it to the type of worker typically paid by tips; female and younger. And they see a both a sexual hierarchy/classist agenda behind the tipping thing.

Others don't see the same agenda.
Some economists, BTW, describe the reason for tipping as NOT to express your gratitude for good service, but to make employment in such a field desirable for someone who will in general make the service experience a good one for you the next time you go to a tipping institution.

Why is it up to the customers of the restaurant to pay the employees of the restaurant instead of the business owner?

Why Brazilians are Protesting the World Cup

yellowc says...

This is very good.

All the wrong people get rich from the WC and FIFA laughs very heartily all the way to the bank. The whole process of bidding and breaking your countries back to host these things is borderline ridiculous and the "privilege and gratitude" you're supposed to show because your corrupt politicians want to line their pockets is equally ridiculous.

Hosting these events should be put to public vote, I don't feel this is absurd, there are only two such events, the Olympics and the World Cup. The politicians should have to argue their case to why it would benefit the country, with an *actual* plan for trying to make good of it, not just claim "Oh trust me, this will be GREAT for the country"....based on? All the other failures? Sounds promising.

Man Prays For His Wife's Recovery. Crucifix Takes Payment

KnivesOut says...

Let's look at this another way.

If this poor schmuck had, in an act of gratitude for the doctors who helped his wife survive cancer, went to one of their houses and attempted to recklessly wash their garage in a very unsafe fashion, and, in so doing, lost his leg, and then proceeded to attempt to sue the doctor...

It would still be fucking hilarious.

Crow Becomes Part of the Family

I've been feeding a nearby family of crows for a few years now. My hope is that, out of gratitude, someday they will bring me one of their young ones to raise as my own.

What about a seagull? You made one drunk. <IMG class=smiley src="http://cdn.videosift.com/cdm/emoticon/tongue.gif">

I hate to say it , but , seagulls are kind of dimwitted compared to crows. In the air seagulls are gracefull but on the ground they are just clumsy gluttons. Crows on the other hand, are the real deal, they are VERY good fliers, and on the ground , they hop , skip, run , jump around with style. Crows are obviously thoughtfull, perceptive, curious, cautious and playfull, . Dont get me wrong, I could be friends with a seagull, but I think I would enjoy bonding with a crow more.

I was being sarcastic earlier. BTW, nice typos.
