Honest Trailers - Pacific Rim

RFlagg says...

I loved the movie. I didn't expect a thought provoking experience. I didn't expect Inception or the original Matrix, I expected giant robots punching monsters in the face and mindless fun, and it delivered that in spades. Yeah, dumb stuff in the movie, but it was so full of win, like he says, I can't wait for the sequel... If they don't approve his At the Mountains of Madness movie, I would at least hope they go for a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion... I'd do a live action version of the 4 Rebuild of Rebuild of Evangelion films, so 4 live action movies that catch most of the story...

47 Ronin

Fletch says...

You realize that this is a movie, right?
Granted, I don't know the story of the real 47 ronin, or that there even was a real story, so I had no expectations before I watched the trailer. Movies are supposed to be entertaining. While I personally would love to see a historically accurate version of this story (now that I know there is one), it probably wouldn't sell as many tickets. Be glad they didn't throw in some giant robots.

Moviebob reviews Pacific Rim

ChaosEngine says...

Agreed. I've read that in several different reviews, and I don't get it. ID4 just wasn't that good.

At least this guy makes a point of explaining it.

And @VoodooV, I guess people are just enjoying it? I certainly had a blast at the cinema. Sure, you could drive a giant robot through the plot holes and the main character was the least interesting part of it, but it was just so much fun, I really didn't care.

Pacific Rim - CES Trailer

ipfreely says...

Hate giant robot movies. It does not make any sense to make a robot that has arms and legs like humans. What purpose does that serve. The energy needed to move the appendages are just wasted energy. Why not make make bunch of flying gunships with RailGuns? Like bees attacking a bear... Cheaper to produce than a giant robot that waste more energy moving than actually fighting monsters.

I'll suspend belief for a good movie but not for giant robots, they are just fucking bullshit.

Del Toro casts Portal's Glados in "Pacific Rim" (Trailer)

steroidg says...

One would think with the resource they have, rather than building a giant robot with overly complicated controlling system, they would build something a lot cheaper and efficient like a fast moving projectile that has good penetration and cause a giant secondary explosion... just a thought.

Del Toro casts Portal's Glados in "Pacific Rim" (Trailer)

EvilDeathBee says...

-Have you ever seen Godzilla? Evangelion's Angels (and the story) were a little more complicated than simply "giant monsters sent to destroy mankind". From this trailer we don't know what these monsters are or came from, they could just be random monsters like in The Mist.
-There were NO giant robots in Evangelion
-From this trailer, these robots are remote controlled, they are not inside them. Even if they were, ever heard of Battletech/Mech Warrior (they also use neural links)? Robotech/Macross? Gundam?

I was basing this off observations from this trailer. Nothing here says "Evangelion" to me apart from a few vague similarities that are not unique to Eva

Seriously?

Let's see.
- Giant monsters sent to destroy mankind (at least that's what they say in the trailer)
- Giant Robots controlled by people inside
- Giant Robots controlled by people inside with "neural links"
- Giant Robots each constructed by Japan, US, and Germany (that's not in the trailer I know, but i read it somewhere)
