Healthcare, Let's Help Each Other

Zonbie says...

bugger. mis voted (wrong vid!) - it's an interesting point. but, not really selling the idea, once again this is a pitch Against a Healthcare system this is a right rather than a privalige. I have lived in UK and Sweden, bother with a central healthcare system and this problem is a non issue for me. If you want to see a doctor, you do. If you need medicine, you get it, discounted. Sure I pay through taxes, but I get it, and I don't get rejected or told my treament is "experimental"

This guy making the response, seems to think that a central system (gov. controlled or influenced in this case) is just plain bad. But the truth is, if it is done properly, the results often mean everyone gets the right healthcare. In the UK you can still get private insurance on top of the NHS (and like all insurance this does not cover asthma, and a whole bunch of other (unsupported) ailments.

But as mentioned above, you have the fire brigade and postal service as public services, as well as education. Why is healthcare seen as exempt?

GOP GI Joe PSA: "Socialism"

jwray says...

Jefferson said "Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies"

Benjamin franklin led the way from laissez-faire to socialism by establishing the first publicly-financed fire brigade

Personal income tax is MUCH less harmful to trade than alternative means of taxation such as tariffs.

IF the government had a 50 trillion endowment instead of $50 trillion debt, and it could therefore pay for its own operations without charging anybody taxes, would that make you happy? However That would basically be the same thing as government ownership of the means of production.

Wilshire the Fire Dog

schmawy says...

Dalmatians can be very serious dogs in my experience. And strong. There's a reason that firemen like them. I'll have to look that up.

Some people really got themselves in over their heads after that 101 Dalmatians movie by Disney. "Oh, we'll get a puppy for each kid", right? In a year that was one hundred and twenty pounds of sinew and muscle, wanting to go outside.

[e:]
Here's a passage from Wikipedia, 'for what it's worth':

Today the Dalmatian serves as a firehouse mascot but, back in the days of horse-drawn fire carts, they provided a valuable service. Dalmatians and horses are very compatible, so the dogs were easily trained to run in front of the carriages to help clear a path and quickly guide the horses and firefighters to the fires. The dogs were sometimes also used as rescue dogs to locate victims in burning structures. Dalmatians are often considered to make good watchdogs and it is believed that Dalmatians may have been useful to fire brigades as guard dogs to protect a firehouse and its equipment. Fire engines used to be drawn by fast and powerful horses, a tempting target for thieves. So, Dalmatians were kept in the firehouse as deterrence to theft. The horses have long since gone, but the Dalmatians, by tradition, have stayed.

Bush Vetos the SChip Bill: Healthcare for poor kids = bad

BicycleRepairMan says...

Private healthcare is insane. QM and the others who drank this piss from the corrupt assholes who runs the US, and gets buttfucked by the medical industry (as well as the cigarette industry, the oil industry, and every other industry) on a daily basis: Wake up people, its all fucking LIES. lies and scare tactics, thats what you are being fed. You will NOT drown in taxes with "socialized medicine" you wont wait in endless lines, and no, people will not say "screw my health, others will pay for it", anymore than they set their houses on fire just to see the fire-brigade come running.

I live in a country where all healthcare is free, ie: paid for by public means, and fuck all if I'd trade it for your system. I've never been admitted to a hospital in my adult life, but my share of taxes that go to save other peoples lives, I'll pay with a smiling face, infact, the safety of healthcare is pretty much the best reason I can think of to pay taxes at all.

Is our system perfect? hell no, probably never will be,but nobody has to sell their house or live on the street as a result of getting cancer. To me, thats proof enough that there is atleast a little fairness in the madness.

Electric Pickle Party-Fun with Dills

choggie says...

Done this sooo may times to the dee-lite of friends and family...harmless fun with a big pickle-no protection needed.

Bare the end of a lamp wire, separate, and stick one side of wire to one end of pickle, repeat at opposite end.
Plug into 110(US), turn off lights, and watch pickle cook and glow.

And if you are one of the unfortunates, to have amassed enough bad karma, and you hold your mouth correctly, the fire brigade will follow a bigger glow, to the last home you cooked a pickle in!!!
