The description indicates that this is a "fire ant" colony. Although it's not certain, these are likely invasive 'fire ants'.
Setting aside for a moment the obvious argument that humans are also an invasive species, there are several reasons to kill invasives, and this was not a particularly nasty way to do it.

Now, he also casts carpenter ant colonies, which are likely indigenous to his area.. that, in my opinion, is weaker ethical footing.

That's a good thing, can you imagine falling into an entire nest of those things? That's what I thought the first time I saw one as a child (I had fallen in many fire ant beds already). YOINKS!

I have thrown cats before, yes. Some cats I've had were unusually aggressive when it came to the food on my plate. I'm allergic to fire ants, in that I hate them and I fear them!

Some people are allergic to ants because of their formic acid in their stings. Fire ants have them for sure. I won't sting you. I promise. O:) Just don't throw cats at me!
