Extremist Jews in Israel Target American Girl

Hehe. I had to think about it for a second before I knew what he meant with "gopfertamti." A northern german would have been unlikely to understand the phrase, but my dialect (swabian) and his dialect (high alemannic) are related: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alemannic_German (It's funny to hear french people from the Alsace with a related dialect in a different language.)
That's also why you can't get a translation from the internet, it's more of a dialect than a variant.

In recent years the swiss got increasingly anti-german and their school-classes of high german language lose popularity. (Edit: Dunno why I wrote that, probably to underline the relation between politics and language)

Thanks for your reply. I suspect a field trip would help me understand more, particularly in Oktoberfest season : Well, maybe one day.

Thanks also for posting the English translation of that Swiss German insult, google translate really had no idea (try it in yourself, but for me it passed it through unaltered and didn't even try to translate!).

I love the way we had a little girl learning how to use the toilet there with a male stranger she met on a school trip.

oh man. Thanks for translating!
I was trying to figure out what a "playlet" was.

...although, now that I think about it, pressing "2" might have been more intuitive.

Richard Dawkins Promotes Teaching Religion in School

Shepppard says...

I actually took Religion in High School. It was an interesting class to say the least, but didn't sway my opinions on anything religion wise.

In fact, it was one of my reasons for becoming an Atheist. It's where I found out that Jesus wasn't the first "Miraculous" birth, in fact, Zoroaster and Buddha were also born in the exact same fashion.

My favourite part of the class, however, was the field trip. We went to three places, a Hindu temple, a Mosque, and a Buddhist temple.

Hindu temple and Mosque were interesting, but nothing special. The Buddhist temple though was nifty, I walked into the main hall and there were 3 giant golden Buddha statues there, with thousands of candles lit around the room. I was amazed by this, and eager to learn about it expecting our tour guide to be a monk of sorts.

Turns out he was a little middle-aged white guy, who turned out to be a dick. When asked "Why did you become a Buddhist?" we all expected some result that included soul searching, or because of it's outlook on everything. The exact answer we got was "Well, my friends were something different, so I decided to be different, too."

Needless to say, by the end of our tour, none of us were too impressed with this guy. Chinese new years was coming up so they showed us the basement that was being decorated in silks and lanterns, and looked pretty cool. The guide asked us "So, any of you know how to say 'Happy new year' in Chinese?" with a slight smirk on his face.

I looked him square in the eye and said "Happy new year in Chinese."

That's when we got kicked out of the temple.

Worth it.

Matt Damon defending teachers

dystopianfuturetoday says...

If by 'data' you mean 'bullshit', then I totally agree.

-In the article, it says that educators don't work as many hours as other professionals. What many people don't understand is that aside from the 6-7 hours spent in the classroom each day, much of the job is performed off the clock - duties like grading papers, making lesson plans, hosting study sessions, parent-teacher conferences, various meetings, extracurricular fund raisers and events, filling out report cards, ordering supplies, going to educator conferences, field trips, etc. They obviously did no research before hastily rushing out this weak rebuttal.

-In the article, it also makes the point that teachers earn about a third less than their private sector counterparts of similar education level. I'm not sure how they come to the conclusion that sacrificing a 3rd of your economic worth is not 'shitty'. It probably has something to do with them being a corporate propaganda outfit that wants to profit off of private schools.

Maybe it's time to upgrade your media sources, @chilaxe. You are way too smart to be reading this dishonest garbage.

I hate to introduce data to otherwise awesome discussions but...
"Is Matt Damon right that teachers make a "shitty" salary? Short answer: No. Longer answer: Also no." http://reason.com/blog/2011/08/02/is-matt-damon-right-that-teach
