You make some salient points. I am trying to stay away from posting on this particular submission of mine. But there is an Errol Morris film, I don't know if you have seen it, but it is about this man Fred Leuchter (I think thats who it is--the man williamson speaks of in the interview), the infamous holocaust denier. Really complicated and interesting profile of a very strange, intelligent, perhaps crazy and conflicted man.

Too bad the video didn't get more attention. I think it could spark some interesting dialogue here on the sift.

Morris said he never made a dollar on any of his documentaries, and had to turn to making commercials or he'd be broke. I believe it. Also, I'm almost positive that is Errol Morris riding the bicycle.

This fucker cites the work of Fred Leuchter as evidence that gas chambers didn't exist. (Fred Leuchter's story was documented in the fascinating Errol Morris film Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr.). His so-called "expertise" is a joke, and his "investigation" of Auschwitz has been completely discredited. This bishop must certainly know this about Leuchter, because he's not a complete idiot. Nonetheless he lies through his teeth simply by claiming Leuchter's investigation is valid in some way.

Fuck him. I think he's anti-semitic, and he's using the Leuchter bullshit as confirmation of this. This is called confirmation bias. Who would want to support such an outrageous claim? I can't see a way around his anti-semitism.

This doesn't surprise me, sadly. I went to Catholic grade school and high school, and I encountered more than a couple of nuns and priests who, how shall I say, weren't fond of the "Christ-killers." One more reason I became an atheist.

Errol's cadence of speech is mirrored well by the cadence of his films. There's a good sense of his story-telling style that seems to be magnified by the tools of documentary.

I really like Errol Morris' films -- much better than Micheal Moore's -- and he's as good a reason as any for Herzog to eat his shoe.
