More than any other performer I often think how great it must have been for the guy who actually played the drums on The Muppet Show - his name was Ronnie Verrell - to get to play with some of the best and most famous drummers of the era, including full on drum battles with people like Buddy Rich.

Apparently (and, I suppose, obviously) he was a pretty accomplished drummer in his own right, but to play as animal must have been an absolute blast.

Love the deference to the drummer, not only is he not behind the band, they all turn to him during the solo.

I confess I don't think I've ever bothered to listen to this song much past the first few bars, and wow, it gets so much better than the main hook!

When I was a kid and we all wanted to be drummers, being able to play this song on the drums was the litmus test whether you were any good.

so basically bad drummer, drum programmers, and producers ruined rock music. meanwhile, jungle/d'n'b took this technique to extremes over 10 years before it "ruined" rock music. i think rock music "killed" rock music, not poorly implemented technology.

Thank you for the quality! I have been on an exploration of electronic musicians. Lately, it has been females thanks to Sarah Angliss. It kicked off with a Siouxsie and the Banshees video with the drummer playing with an instrument named the waterphone during an interview. I noted the date of the interview and found out that it was used on a track on a 12" single that I have in my collection. I have not listened to since it for ages since I no longer have a turntable. It happens to be one of my favorite songs from them. Then I remembered that I discovered that instrument here many moons ago. I have added Current 93 to my list of music to check out. Thanks!

That drummers finger has got to hurt.

Did you check out the summary of the video evidence posted by eric3579? Or in the nearly 2 hr one I linked skip to 1:11 and check out the interaction between the drummer and the kids.

The kids stay in their group, and the drummer and his followers wade right into them, with lots of room to go around. Phillips is on audio recording declaring that he did NOT feel that he was blocked from any closing ceremony, but that he wanted to go in and separate the kids from the black Israelites to 'descalate' the situation. Eric3579's video again has Phillips audio statement about what he was doing, listen to that and then watch the longer video for a minute or two at 1:11 when Phillips wades in. He's clearly lying, he went in aggressively pushing into the middle of the crowd of kids, hardly what any sane person wanting to deescalate the situation would do.

It's funny how sure people sound that they know what happened based on a few "media reports"(oops, turns out he's not a Vietnam Vet!). There's video out there, educate yourself people! The drummers did walk into the crowd of teenagers purposefully. The kids likely didn't even know he was part of a protest, just that he was getting in their faces and banging his drum. Some even sang along with him.

The description here "decided to surround and block, taunt, and threaten a native American veteran performing a ceremony" is all false.

All British except for the drummer. But they recorded "Even in The Quietest Moments" in Colorado and "Breakfast In America" in Los Angeles so they bloody well stopped being British in the mid-70s.
