Best home made lightsaber duel ever!

VoodooV says...

Really? Wieber or Dorkman had an account here and they were banned for self linking?

If there was ever a time to have an exception to the self-linking rule, that would be it.

Just in case, If Tarantino ever promotes a video here....fuck the self-linking rule...fuck it right in the ass.

Second Best Lightsaber Duel Ever

Art of the Saber - One of the best home made duels ever

SDGundamX says...

>> ^shuac:
Yeah, it doesn't look like they're trying to cut flesh, they're just hitting each others' saber blades. It looks nice for video, tho.
And I like Darth Pillowbiter's magenta light saber. It looks fabulous!

Now, now, don't be a Vader-hater. This is definitely above average work as far as fan-made saber duels go and I like how they tried to hint at a story in the opening monologue. However, I think we all know that the best home-made lightsaber duels belong to Ryan and Dorkman:

Weezer - Pork and Beans (Count the Memes)

jmd says...

Charlie (candy mountain) and Evolution of dance are both in my list.

EDD,I saw the cubes but since nothing was actually being done with them, its hard to attribute it to any meme. In my mind, the most coolest thing ive seen done with rubiks cubes in the past years, are the amature made cube solvers made with webcams and basic robotics. As for the light sabers, the 2 nerd duelist are ryan vs dorkman. They made 2 videos consisting of light saber duals, reproducing some high level special effects like terrain impacts and sparks. Its possible to attribute the light saber effect on lot of other things in the videos due to the gauntlet of HOW TO videos on making your own light saber effects in movies.

Eric, nice catch. Never seen the video till now, but the mouse placement and the overexposure glow from the window as well as overall color is dead on.

uhohzombies, nice catch, although I didn't notice nearly as many memes in there. Its possible they are from different circles. Weezers is pretty much a years worth of 4chans /flash board condensed into a video. And of course both BNL and weezers song itself sucks.. so yea.. their trying tp ride hype trains that are not their own.

Questionables..

The girl with the rainbow colored leggings. I know of one or two high resolution pictures (one of them has been turned into a inspirational poster) of a model wearing them, but recall no such video or animated gif of this girl.
http://208.116.9.205/10/graphics/pics/pictures_skittles.jpg

In the massive collage at the end, theres a pair of 3 animated CG models. They don't look like anything I recognize, but the distorted form and copied animation dance reminds me of the dancing baby, or the Japanese music player that allowed user loadable models that then made them dance to music (if any of you have seen the dancing spider man, that was from this program).

There is also what appears to be a floating metal star with a circular grill that rings no bells in the same collage.

And the 3 dancing idiots. I spent most of the time trying to find these guys with no luck. They use the same stage as the numa guy though, so maybe its not a meme?

Bonus: Check out the will it blend link.

Ah...the reappearance of Ryan was genius!!!! I must say I have watched the vid a thousand times and really don't "get" his reappearance, so I just look at it as humorous way to end a killer fight. Ryans head nod as the saber goes through Dorkman is priceless. This fight is wicked pissah. Can't wait for the sequel in March.

New End of Year Project (Sift Talk Post)

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

So, it's my pleasure to announce our end of year project, and the formation of the VideoSift Gold Star Academy. It's a little tongue-in-cheek, but seriously - I think this community knows much more collectively about good online video than any single editor at one of the big publications.

Starting on November 1st there will be a new invocation, "*nominate" for any of our videos. This will work just like a channel invocation, and will place a small icon next to the video indicating it's been nominated. Videos only need to be nominated once.

I want to lay a few guidelines on you that we've thought up. These are still open to suggestions - until we make them hard and fast on November 1st. We'd love to get your input.

The focus should be on hand-crafted videos, not clips from our favourite shows, commercials or professional music videos. We would probably make exceptions to this rule if the video is something that was made popular almost exclusively by its presence on the Web. A good example of this would be the OK Go treadmill video.

The content should come from the year 2006. So Star Wars Kid would be out. The exception to this would be content that was made before 2006, but was released or made popular in the year 2006. (Our number 2 ranked Dorkman Star Wars duel perhaps?)

This is a gold star level invocation, so hurry up and get your gold stars before November 1 people.

Anything else?

VideoSift Mentioned in Wall Street Journal (Sift Talk Post)

Yay us: "VideoSift, the newest of the sites monitored by the Internet TV Charts, rewards members who find entertaining clips with extra moderating powers. As a result, Mr. Klive believes, its members ..." (do what daphne just said).

Interestingly there's a typo on page 3.

And WSJ gives the so-called Weiner dog a shout out: http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=7980
Doubly interesting, one of our lowest ranked published vids is on the guy's Fav list.

Ryan vs Dorkman also refers to a vid we have sifted pretty high up.

Anyway, that's my sifting for the night, later all.

Ryan Weiber Vs Brandon Flyte (Another Amazing Lightsaber Duel!)

Nicely acted. The actual footage is probably of lesser quality than the Ryan vs. Dorkman one, has kind of a washed out sepia-tone, but good moves on their part. Very engaging.

Very well done!

I've done a lot of small sword and rapier/dagger choreography with pros here in Los Angeles. Truly, this was fun. You guys obviously worked hard on this. I really liked a lot of the camera angles, and the way you handled the comedy. However, I was *sure* that Dorkman losing his glasses was a turning point -- it was a misstep in the storytelling of the fight, methinks. However, I liked the pacing a lot. Very enjoyable!
