Birds Aren’t Real On Fox News

newtboy says...

Only a government mole would say such a thing hoping to embarrass or shame people out of telling the truth!

What you don’t realize is we already know….moles (and gophers) also aren’t real, having been replaced worldwide by government controlled bioengineered cyborg rodents after 9-11 to keep track of may-be-terrorists who already know how to successfully avoid surveillance by “birds”.

Nice try…we’re on to you little fuzzy buddy.

On the secret third hand that humans all have, I hope the commenters here on the sift who also claim birds aren't real stop doing so - it's only feeding into the birdbrains' delusion. This paragraph was not written under duress, and there are no starlings in the room here with me.

Alita: Battle Angel - Official Trailer

00Scud00 says...

I'm not sure about the movie, but in the manga the world of Alita is full of cyborgs in just about any size and shape you can imagine. Sometimes it's probably a matter of fashion or identity, and sometimes it's about what you can afford. I doubt they'll do it, but I think it would be better if you saw some other cyborgs with eyes like hers, making it more like just another body or face type, and maybe it would look less weird if you saw a few others with those features.

It raises the question of why go to the trouble of creating a killer android who looks like a short girl when she also doesn't look like a human. It's not much a disguise.

Alita: Battle Angel - Official Trailer

AeroMechanical says...

Seems like there is a little too much impossible camera work going on. I suppose you could argue that's an artistic choice, and maybe the nature of trailers exaggerates it, but I definitely agree with the impression that it's got that video-gamy, early 2000's CGI vibe to it.

And bug eyes is definitely just creepy. The anime thing doesn't work on this side of the uncanny valley.

All the same... big-budget action, sci-fi kung-fu fighting future-cyborgs... meh, I'll see it more or less by default.

The whole thing has that "bad cgi" vibe where everything feels weightless.

Not for me.

Ghost in the Shell VFX Behind-the-Scenes

newtboy says...

...And @Ghostly wins the thread with the odd tactic of using facts and psychology tenants to remove racial confusion.

Yeah, sorry guys. Anime characters are Japanese unless drawn as American or British 'white'. Stories about Japan, set in Japan, with Japanese characters being played by white people is whitewashing. The fact that her character is now renamed "Major" should tell you something.

Major Motoko Kusanagi has always appeared 'Japanese' to me, even her cyborg face looked 'Japanese' to me. Those that think the anime character looks 'white' must also think that, in the anime world, Japan is populated solely with white people, because they all look like her except the actual Americans.

Ghostly said:

Uh no, anime characters are not "drawn to look more like westerners"

I think this article explains it well:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Official Trailer 2

HugeJerk says...

There's more than that... because DC wants to copy the success of Marvel. Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash are going to have small parts in the film. Then it'll lead to the Justice League movie, followed by a handful of solo movies... followed by another Justice League movie... followed by cancellations because DC doesn't really care about the characters and will somehow screw everything up.

Fail Forward : Deus Ex - Human Revolution

00Scud00 says...

Interesting talk, but I think he puts way too much stock in the idea that going in guns (or rats) blazing is always the more satisfying approach. Back in the old days of Thief many people prided themselves on ghosting through levels and leaving as little evidence of their passing as possible.
I tend to stealth my way through most games were stealth is a viable option and I have never felt cheated because I didn't use some of the more action oriented systems. In Deus Ex I don't think I ever bothered with that social enhancer augment.

Adam Jensen's "I didn't ask for this" attitude actually seems pretty reasonable to me, what little of his life we saw before his accident seemed pretty happy and he didn't seem like the type to sit around thinking "If only I had a cool cyborg body". This seems more like the player is projecting their own insecurities.

And I could easily see a future where prosthetic limbs were more than just for rich people. Technology advances and becomes cheaper, cellphones used to be carried by rich assholes on Wallstreet, now every asshole has one. And not every prosthetic is going to turn you into Superman either, all a cybernetic leg needs to do is allow you to walk and run like a person with a normal leg, leaping tall buildings with a single bound is not a required feature. So most of those repressed cyber citizens are probably not sporting mil-spec hardware.

Hetfield (Metallica) talks being a musician, growing up

ChaosEngine says...

Hetfield is a great guitarist. He doesn't play solos or super technical parts, but he's great at what he does and he plays with real feel.

Also he has a cyborg right arm.... the man can downpick like nobodies business
