No matter where you are Zorro saves the day!

Quadrophonic says...

I know what you mean, although I honestly think it's a good idea to do stuff like this. It may sound a little over the top, but i would be happy to die in a killing spree, rather than live in a world where I can't even make a little joke or prank without fear of being shot by "accident". What kind of world would it be, where our fears control us to a point that doesn't allow us to be more than working and learning machines?

Not that i know too much about life on a US campus but isn't it an incredibly stupid idea to crash into a room full of students, wearing a mask and wielding something that just has to be mistaken as a weapon? My impression from press is that because of all the killing sprees in US schools and universities and so on several institutions allow their students to wear guns? or at least the professors? And even if this this is a false picture i'm being painted by sensational press, isn't it still at least a cruel thing to do? Aren't people nervous about crazy folks shooting around? You can clearly see the professor twitching nervously. Maybe i'm seeing things too serious but in my perception there's enough of gun related violence in the US education system that would make joking around with such stuff a really bad idea.

Christian Parents Denied Health Care to their Sickened Baby

bcglorf says...

As a christian myself I want to emphatically disown these kinds of people. Their crazed opposition to doctors is no more a Christian value or teaching than it is a value of white people or Americans. You simply can not find a single scriptural basis for refusing medical care. Sure there are plenty of miraculous healings in the Bible, but nowhere are there any examples of refusing any other forms of more basic assistance.

Almost every christian church has read out the following parable:
A man is in house as a flood comes sweeping in. A truck from the fire dept. comes by and asks him if he needs a ride out, and he refuses insisting that God will provide. The dikes break and as the flood waters come in he has to climb onto his roof. While there, a rescue boat comes by and tries to rescue him, but again he refuses insisting God will provide. As his roof is almost covered, a rescue chopper comes in and pleads for him to climb up, but yet again he insists that God will provide. The water then covers the roof and he drowns. When he gets to heaven he asks God why he never answered his prayers. God answers, well I sent a truck, a boat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?

The nutty crazy folks like in this video need to recognize that, if they really do believe in God, modern medicine and doctors are a way for God to answer yes to their prayers for healing. Anything more and they are DIRECTLY contradicting the teachings they claim to hold to by making demands that God give them the answer they want, rather than just accepting his perfectly good but less flashy answer.

Fox News On The Netherlands

Tofumar says...

"And about van Gogh, he was killed by one insane muslim with a death wish. He had a low tolerance, not our society."

I thought part of the reason the reaction was so strong (mosque burnings and the like) was because of the widespread perception that there was NOT just one guy doing this. There was one guy who happened to be lucky enough to pull off the murder, sure. But isn't there an active, vocal, and dangerous minority of extremist Muslims in the Netherlands who would've been happy to do the same thing if only they had gotten there first? I mean, Ayaan Hirsi Ali didn't have to leave your country because of one or two crazy folks. There's a whole community of people in Western Europe that want her--and anyone like her--murdered. Moreover, the reporting in papers here on the Dutch reaction to the killing was usually framed in terms of "They think enough is enough!" rather than "They feel they have to nip this in the bud."

Now, maybe that widespread perception--if it even exists--is mistaken. In that case, though, you have to do the tough job of explaining why so many tolerant people came to have such an intolerant and mistaken view of the situation. (DISCLAIMER: even if this widespread perception weren't mistaken, that wouldn't justify the anti-muslim backlash).

Or, maybe all our journalism is as bad as Fox News (or I've misread it). But you seem to think your country becoming more like the U.S. is some drastic, catastrophic change for the worse. If I understand you correctly, you feel it represents the birth of a culture of intolerance. In my estimation, however, you didn't have far to go in that regard in the first place. From the outside, it seems like you've spent the last 20 years IMPORTING intolerance (and not from America, either).
