The Raid 2: Berandal-Trailer (epic martial arts awesomeness)
Watched it last night, and while overall I didn't think it was as good as the first movie (wasn't as tight or focused), it was still freakin' awesome!
The fight choreography was simply outstanding. Never have I seen such a fantastically brutally over the top level of violence. Indonesians are apparently almost impossible to kill, especially the climactic fight (the one in the thumbnail).
*promote Iko Uwais beating the shit out of EVERYONE!!!
Coolest Robot Dances Gangnam Style on Graham Norton
Yeah, sadly I upvoted too soon -- because I LOVE robots.
I was expecting it to have more speed and some decent leg movement for that godawful 12k price tag. Between my brother, father and myself, we own, at the worst, $500 worth of robots, and they're all just as capable -- and more reliable -- than this.
We've gotten them at swap meets, craigslist, robotics fairs, etc. and never have paid more than 100 bucks a piece. Most of them are from 20-50 dollars a piece -- and they have smart phone apps which control them remotely.
This robot is rubbish. Either that or the instructions given to Norton went over his head.
Robots of this variety have the capacity for complex choreography involving programmable while loops -- and we see NONE of that in this clip. They could have had a basic program run that Norton would interrupt via voice/remote control and it could have been AMAZING!
Why does he have to keep tapping on the idiot robot's head? Weeeaaaaaakkk...
For the price of that thing, it is a piece of shit!
The greatest piece of filmmaking you'll see this week
You're right, a long take isn't anything special on its own. I think the framing, camera movement, intricate choreography, and overall complexity make this a noteworthy shot. Is it the greatest steadicam shot ever? No, which is why I didn't call this something hyperbolic like "the greatest shot you'll ever see" or even "the greatest shot you'll see this year." But it is a bravura piece of filmmaking and certainly worth watching. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for complex tracking shots, though.
Having not seen the show yet, the clip was somewhat confusing. But what confuses me more is the tag; "greatest piece of film making you'll see this week, or next week, or the week after." A single take - of whatever length - does not constitute great film making. It is the content of the shot that makes it great. And, tbh, the scene was nothing we haven't seen before.
Whose Plane is it Anyway?
Kinda sad that this super low-budget youtube short has better direction and action choreography than most big budget action movies these days.

Could I borrow a promote from you? I don't sift as often anymore so when I do post something I like it to get at least a little noteriety: http://videosift.com/video/Romanticise-by-Chela-Best-choreography-youll-see-today
Thanks for the promote JJ. Good to see you're still around
Japanese kid destroys at YoYo championship
How are these things judged? I feel like yoyo has gotten to the point that I have no idea what's impressive anymore. Is there some sort of 1080 equivalent? Or is it more like figure skating where you get as many points for choreography as you do for technicality?
Why The ORIGINAL "Harlem Shake" Didn't Go Viral
None of the moves require anything but the most base level of skill, and some require none. Futhermore, the choreography is horrendous as almost no moves flows logically to the next and nothing follows the music. Thanks for perpetuating a racist stereotype once again, sift.
Awkward Lightsaber Battle
They had better choreography than Lucas did for the prequel films.
Interview with Milla Jovovich about The Fifth Element
But skinnyskinnyskinny. The choreography really doesn't fit her build. And like she said, she was just getting started with the martial arts stuff.
Petite? She's like 5' 8"
Interview with Milla Jovovich about The Fifth Element
Great interview. Loved that movie. Her language skills were superb, most of her acting was excellent. The fighting... well... we can overlook one flaw, I hope. It just wasn't choreography that was appropriate for a petite woman against beastly warriors. Can't really blame that on Milla.
Pink. Wow. Dancing, singing, athletic feats. And Artist.
i gotta agree. I'm not exactly a fan of hers, but I respect her as an artist.
edit: by the way, compare this great choreography and performance, with this amazingly shitty dancing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcwzuzWMb2I
GREATEST Fight Scene EVER
Man, I haven't watched a martial arts film in ages.
The thing I always liked about Jackie Chan was the humour and ingenuity of the choreography. The fight scene at the end of Fearless with the 3 segment whip and Katana is probably my favorite though.
GREATEST Fight Scene EVER
It's really not that great. Early Jackie Chan fight choreography was far better. Go take a look at Legend of the Drunken Master and tell me if you still feel the same.
