Russia Expands Alternative Energy While USA Shuts It down (Politics Talk Post)

enoch says...

it seems obvious to me.
oil companies are the second largest lobbyist, maybe they have even moved to the number one slot.renewable/alternative energy is against their interest.

government for the people by the people?
i dont think so..while i am sure there are representatives who do try to represent the common man,it has become painfully obvious that our government no longer represents us but rather the interests of multinational conglomerates.

Cool...That made me dizzay!

Totally add some more dynamic lighting/texturing and post again!

If anyone wants to play around with stuff sort of like this, but you dont know how to code, etc.... download a program called Alice.. its free from carnegie melon and can animate things while showing you a little about object oriented programming. Your imagination is pretty much the limit.

"Free scripting and prototyping environment program for 3D object behavior. Runs on Windows 95/98/NT."

Your demo ran ok after locking up for a quick second on starting up the exe as you stole all my databases j/k.

Here's my baby's specs fyi:

Alas, in these troubled times it's whatever pays. I'm a freelancer and since my age doesn't inspire confidence in employers I get most jobs via translation agencies. Usually it's user manuals for home electronics or heavy machinery, EU guidelines and the like, and the occasional agreement or marketing brochure. Although there was also the book on international politics recently. What I'd really love to do though, are scripts/subtitles for foreign movies and novels. I'll try to scoop the upcoming Dan Brown book job as a 'career booster' next, but it's highly unlikely I'll get it, it usually all boils down to who you know in a country of couple million such as mine.

Yes, alas, Farm Frenzy and its offshoots are one of my favorite ways to procrastinate from various reading and writing assignments. LOL.

By the way, what do you translate?

25 Random things about me... (Blog Entry by youdiejoe)

JAPR says...

1. I was raised Mormon, but got fed up with it by junior high and officially dropped it when I moved out for college.

2. I grew up on the West, but not quite the West Coast (hooray Nevada and Idaho).

3. Speaking of Idaho, I don't like potatoes as much as people assume I would.

4. The only non-Republican in my immediate family, but I wouldn't consider myself a Democrat, either. Rather, I decline from choosing a party and prefer to focus on who would be a better candidate overall, as best as I can tell.

5. I used to sing in choir all the way from sixth grade up until the end of Freshman year in college.

6. I actually missed a chance to sing at Carnegie hall with the choir here because I quit it, as well as the opportunity to go to Europe.

7. My sort-of-secret dream is to become a musician, but I'm nowhere close to good enough for that yet.

8. I play guitar and sing, and while my guitaring is starting to get decent, the lack of formal practice with singing since quitting choir has caused my technical abilities in singing to go down.

9. I own a DS and play Pokemon sometimes. Because that game series never really stopped rocking.

10. My favorite video game ever is Chrono Trigger.

11. I am a cat-lover, but am fine with dogs as well.

12. I prefer physical CDs to digital purchases, and currently own over 120 CDs, which I didn't really start purchasing until about three years ago.

13. I only buy CDs without checking them out by downloading first if it's one of my favorite artists and I'm convinced that it's going to be good.

14. I study Japanese, and recently received a rating of "Advanced-low" on the ACTFL Proficiency scale, mostly due to not having devoted any time to studying vocabulary this past semester.

15. My goal is to achieve "Advanced-high" by the end of the year and "Superior" by the time I graduate.

16. My parents see me as a bad influence on my siblings.

17. I drink a lot, and good Belgian ale and German hefeweizen.

18. I don't really smoke, though I have tried it a few times.

19. JAPR are actually my initials.

20. The "A," which is the name I go by, was my Great-Grandfather's middle name, which he went by as well.

21. I have yet to own a car.

22. I spend more money on guitar equipment and CDs than I do on books for classes.

23. I am a habitual procrastinator.

24. I love VideoSift even when it is exactly what I should avoid when I have a deadline for a paper.

25. I still have absolutely no clue what I want to do with my life.

A few years ago I decided to read the classic How to Win Friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie.

It was good reading for an anti-social computer nerd and helped me break out of a dead-end job. A big message in the book is the power of honest praise. Telling other people good things about them that are true is very powerful.

It's very different from flattery, because it has to be praise that you honestly believe. Otherwise people smell the patronization.

Sift Up Vancouver 08 - Success! (Food Talk Post)

MycroftHomlz says...

Your food looks great!

I would come to Vancouver just to eat at your restaurant.

As an aside. My lady friend and I went to New York for my first vacation in 4 years. My goals were:
1) to eat at Carnegie Deli( or Katz's, Russ & Daughters)
2) have an H&H bagel
3) go to Gray's Payaya
4) see a show
5) go to central park
6) to eat at a Mario Batali restaurant (My #1 goal, a tasting menu for two)

So we made reservations at Del Posto (we asked too late to get us something at Babbo, and Lupo). My fiancee and I love great food, in a way fine dining is one of our hobbies. Once month we go out and try a new nice restaurant.

A Batali restaurant is high on my list of places to try. I have to say, I was not impressed. The service was good, though I have had better. Our table was dirty and the server was slow. My biggest problem was the palette we were given was less than spectacular and not cohesive.

My lady had the monk fish and I had the duck. The fish was overcooked and the duck was not pleasant. The biggest problem was the Duck however,

Duck Breast on a bed of polenta, padded with coarse toasted corn meal with black olives.

My friends it was no good. The polenta was overcooked, the olives were too astringent, and the toasted corn meal gave the duck a cereal taste that was not appetizing. I know what you are thinking, who am I to tell Mario Batali what does and doesn't work. Seriously, though this was not a good dish. It was bad take on a french dish I have had before. No good, friends and certainly not for the price tag at $300.

Moral of the story, all is not what it seems on TV.

In reply to this comment by Farhad2000:
Charles Aznavour is an Armenian-French singer, songwriter and actor. Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the most well-known French singers abroad. Often described as the "Frank Sinatra of France", Aznavour sings mostly about love.

He has written musicals and more than a thousand songs, made more than one hundred records, and appeared in sixty movies. Aznavour sings in six languages (French, English, Italian, Spanish, German and Russian), which has helped him perform at Carnegie Hall and other major venues around the world. He also recorded at least one song from the 18th century poet Sayat Nova, in Armenian.

"Making Love Alone"

snoozedoctor says...

Thanks, I find what I can.
There is audio of Bernadette doing this song at Carnegie Hall, but no video. This being a "video" forum, I don't submit audio-only files from YouTube. Bernadette's SNL version, as I recall from the 80s, had her in an evening gown, draped over the piano, and singing with that sincere "broadway musical" delivery. It was really, really funny.
