Hey kid, it's OK to feel this way. I've always wondered what a broccoli farm looks like too. I'm already inundated with cute animal videos online anyway.

That kid understands the plight of circus animals and the continual torture and abuse they receive in order to force them to perform. Way to go kid! Broccoli forever!

Awww poor kid. Too bad it's the circus and not the State Fair where they could probably get some deep fried breaded broccoli dipped in chocolate to ease the sting of lifelong disappointment for this tearful lad. *promote

Miracle Fruit: How to Trick Your Taste Buds

oritteropo says...

You can get a weaker version of this effect by eating a slice of lemon (or drinking some lemon juice) and then immediately trying something like broccoli that's not normally sweet. I haven't tried tabasco sauce, so I don't know if it works quite as well on that but lemon and tabasco go fairly well anyway so IMHO not a huge deal

I want to try this. Anyone have these pills that would be willing to mail me one? Amazon sells 10 for about 15.00 which is a bit much just for shits and giggles. By the way do younger people say shits and giggles or is that mainly and older folks thing?

Well, technically, that's not the fruit and veggies' fault. That's sort of our fault for contaminating the world with all sorts of ungodly shit.

Poor broccoli. It always gets framed.

There have been studies that show that eating unwashed fruit and vegetables can be bad for you, even deadly, thanks to pesticides and contaminants.
There are also studies showing that growing them (in the way we do with artificial fertilizers, pesticides, deforestation, and diverted water) is bad for the environment, so indirectly bad for you. That said, meat production is much worse for the environment.
Not disagreeing with you, just sayin'...nothing's perfect. ;-)

I made it once so far (Gordon Ramsey style). Although i just went with a bit of sea salt and broccoli. Think ill use a bit less water next time for a more creamy feel. It is going to end up being one of my regular soups of choice.

You may not have said that people lack self-control, but the article you posted indicated as much; that when it comes to food portions, people have difficulty curbing their appetites, and it's simply not true -- and it's seems like a facile excuse for not taking responsibility for oneself.

No one I know who actually wants to lose weight "eats less and exercises" (and I would add "eat healthfully" to that, as well). In fact, I don't know anyone who eats healthfully and exercises regularly and appropriately who is "overweight." (If you know anyone, feel free to put them in touch with me.)

I don't want to get all technical here, but obviously someone who has moldy intestines, "leaky gut," fatty liver, and the resulting blood sugar imbalances may have a difficult time losing weight. And, by no means do I think eating McDonald's is a good idea for any health-conscious person, but individuals need to take some responsibility for educating themselves about their own health. This isn't McDonalds' responsibility.

And yeah, the low fat craze was a bad idea (as I frequently pointed out to many in the 90's), but that's what you get when you trust certain "authorities" to tell you what to do and how to live (especially when it comes from the government and its cronies at the AMA).

If you eat healthfully, your body will tell you when to eat and when to stop. Only a messed up metabolism encourages overeating. For example, the insulin-adrenailne roller-coaster will, of course, have an effect on a person's capacities for immediate self-control. This is why people who binge tend to do so on sweets, wheat, and other no-so-great "foods." Do you know anyone who binges on broccoli? I do not.

So I agree that you need knowledge of what to eat, and this is something that often varies from person to person as we all have different biochemistries, but there are common elements to what more likely agrees with most everyone's health.

(Disclaimer: I am not giving medical advice here, as I have not been licensed by the medical "authorities" to misinform you, but in case you want to know more about the reasons for obesity, I encourage you to check this out for more information: http://www.majidali.com/the1.htm)

Well, I guess we disagree. To me, the supernatural and magic are for those without the experience or intelligence to comprehend that they don't exist, or those that wish to live in a fantasy. To me, that mindset is infantile.
I feel that adding magic to a great historical story is like putting sugar on broccoli, it's done to make something good palatable to non-adults, but it ruins it for adults and destroys what was good about it in the first place. This is an adult story with adult themes and adult actions, it didn't need magic, dragons, or 'The One', and the additions only degrade and confuse the amazing facts.
Would you have liked to see a Muslim dragon guarding Osama in Dark Thirty? (I know, not a historically accurate film, I'm just making a point). Wouldn't you have found it out of place in a movie about our (recent) 'history'? How about if Lincoln had to fight a confederate dragon in Lincoln (not Lincoln vampire hunter)? I feel like that would have infantilized those stories, as it does to any factual story.

I would disagree that the presence of the supernatural automatically makes everything infantile though.
