Breeder reactors can transmute non-fissile Uranium to fissile Uranium. So that means you can burn up almost all the Uranium. This includes all the so called nuclear waste. This can also be burnt in a similar process, leaving you with virtually no waste.

Nordlich: Proper dog breeders try to eliminate the health problems (like hip displasia) from the future generations. Not all dog breeding is for looks-and-looks-alone. Selective breeding doesn't always mean you're breeding closely-related dogs together and creating Deliverance Retrievers. Genetic diversity does not always result in super-animals.

I've only ever had mutts for pets, and I think puppy mills and pet stores are terrible, but the act of breeding dogs is not the evil thing. Breeding them irresponsibly is.

Natural selection is a hard thing.

I feel that if an animal cannot live long enough to reproduce, humans included, then it obviously does not pass on it's genes ergo; it does not pass the test of nature.

My opinion of selective breeders is, they disgust me on both a guttural and rational level. These hoity toity rich white people base their whole breeding on outdated and unscientific opinion on how a dog should look

I see a strong working dog as the peek of its breed. I see a show dog as a farce of nature.

Pure breeding is not something to be liked. Biodiversity and Genetic Diversity is something that nature naturally seeks, and it is proven time and again that breeding with a small gene pool with no diversity will ultimately lead to extinction.

My knowledge of biology is only as a hobby, and maybe a slight obsession. It was my favorite class in High School, and would probably have been in college had I majored in it.

On a more sentimental note an old German Shepard or Deutscher Schäferhund of mine died of complication that resulted from Hip Displasia. Here is a quote from the wikipedia on German Shepards:

I can't help but wonder what the breed would look like if it had a bit of diversity.

It is wondrous to think what the world would be like if humans had no developed the current human brain, and still only had the reptile brain.

Yes, training is very much a part of it. What sport isn't? In fact I'd say training factors a lot more in to it than breeding. How many great horses sire other horses with great expectations that simply fizzle out? Plenty.

And how many horses come out of nowhere to give us wonderful stories - frequently.

Besides the point, when you get to these big races like the Triple Crown races and the Breeder's Cup, ALL the horses have strong lineage. So it really comes down to training and, to some extent, the cunning of the jockey.

This is a beautiful sport that, frankly, has eaten itself alive over the past couple decades. They haven't marketed themselves well to the public like other sports (see: NASCAR) over the years. And that's a shame. But I see a huge resurgance in popularity. Unfortunately, the sport won't see a big resurgance until there's a Triple Crown winner. And who knows when that'll be.
