Well, it is a quad backflip, not a 1440..

I love snow skiing. To me, it is one of the most freeing activities I can ever do. Just gliding down a mountain, back and forth...OK. must find mountain immediately! But I can ski 8 hours in a day and never do anything remotely as cool as what I just watched.

The pinnacle was at the 2:35 mark in the video when he does a backflip, and there is what looks like an Eagle flying over his head. Awesome.

Hmmm, Not sure it's possible to do a flip twice on this course. I'm guessing you may be confused and thinking of this, which was one backflip, but if you're not please provide link. That's great, your reflexes are in line with survivability.

That said... I used to spend time with people learning to do handstands, and I've seen people do a lot of *very* weird things when they start to fall over from. I've done some stupid stuff myself in that situation. Once, I think I fell onto my shoulders, then rebounded via a kind of backflip onto my feet. I think it's one of those things some people learn readily, and others have a hard time wrapping their head around. Hilarity may ensue.

Anyway, going further off-topic: if you want to learn to do a handstand, my recommendation is to start with learning how to fall from one!

Even the smartest people can become "deer in the headlights" type stupid when they are overstimulated in an environment like a skydive. This guy couldn't pull his own chute only because he was new, scared, tense and overwhelmed once he lost control.

This guy wasn't on his first time as a solo skydiver, he probably had ten jumps or so and is clearly still over-amped from the whole experience. The worst thing you can do on a skydive is tense up and overcompensate all of your movements. All you need to do is relax and be symmetrical and you will stabilize thanks to the airflow. This is the exact opposite of what you have been taught your whole life where you need to fling your body's momentum around rather emphatically if you want to get anywhere at lower airspeeds (think doing a backflip off of a diving board, you need to emphatically kick your legs up and your head back - in skydiving it's all about smooth controlled movements that control airflow, not momentum).

The dude just freaked out and flailed about like an idiot. Human error, that's all.

The instructor is a certified badass for catching and saving the student as low as he did.
