Weekend Update: Christmas Joke Swap 2023 - SNL

newtboy jokingly says...

Right, he has more practice…but after the “little art films” he’s not getting any protection from the Avengers…he might want to try sleeping on his ferry for a while. I’m pretty certain previous years has ensured he gets no police protection. That’s what I mean by no safe harbor, Che still has home to go to.

“Y’all need Jesus” was great. The Beyoncé joke was good too, pissed off all black women at once, but IMO Jost is definitely in more danger.

I mean... Jost's been living under police (or Black Widow) protection for years since Che's been owning him every Joke Swap. It's something that need not be said anymore.

This is the first time Che's in sweating territory though. From just 3 words! That's a credit to Jost. I think Jost did better this year than any others, even though he still couldn't beat Che (a foregone conclusion).

The fake poet/activist black lady move is genius on Che's part, there's just no win for Jost, and her no contact with Jost is just pure humiliation from beginning to end.

The Simpsons - YOU'RE NEXT

poolcleaner says...

Way more disturbing than the actual movie it's portraying. Although the movie "You're Next" ain't all that bad. It's a pretty typical slasher but one of the victims turns out to be an ex wilderness survival child born to parents who lived off the land in Australia, so she sets up all these intricate traps to slow down and kill the murders. Pretty awesome at times.

The art film director boyfriend who get shot in the beginning is real life horror director Ti West, who directed an excellent retro satanic cult horror movie called "The House of the Devil". I love that shit. Had one of the actors from You're Next.

5 Yr Old Girl Discusses Princes Leia's Slave Outfit With Dad

dannym3141 says...

I appreciate that there is a strong point to be made about protecting young girls from body image issues and being pressured into looking or being a certain way, i think it's unfair to put that on her decision here.

She IS influenced by society in that she sees clothes in her day-to-day life and decides what she thinks looks best of those. My point being - what is the alternative? Who has the right to decide what to show her and what not to show her of the world, and why, and how will they starve her of music, art, film and friends without hurting her growth?

She will be raised in a relatively affluent civilisation and be able to make her own decisions for the rest of her life, she presumably won't be forced into marriage or slavery, and she'll buy clothes that she feels comfortable wearing, that fit to the style of the times.

I know you have a point, i hope you might acknowledge i have one also. We are all influenced in our choices and preferences by our culture - that is life - why feel sorry for her for thinking that the bikini is the nicest looking clothing item that she's seen? Would you feel sorry for her that she hasn't seen enough hairstyles to choose something less like Britney, for example? At that age, i say she is thinking without regard for attraction of the opposite sex and entirely on what she prefers (if i know 5 year olds), out of what she's seen in her short time.

If only that were true.

This girl is 5 years old. Over the past 5 years, in every commercial she's seen on TV, on every magazine cover she's seen by the checkout counter when she's grocery shopping with her parents, in the majority of the cartoons she's watched and the dolls she's probably played with, in every reaction she's seen in adults' faces to how women dress and behave, she's been culturally programmed with and internalized what modern Western society deems as "beautiful."

It's unavoidable, really, as @Truckchase pointed out above. It's part of the socialization process. But if you've read about how Carrie Fisher struggled with body image issues and eating disorders throughout the filming of the original trilogy, then you probably (like me) find this video more tragic than cute.

Clown Panties

chingalera says...

Not here...Her overall angry-bitch/feministavibe, fast delivery trying to pack everything into tight groups, a barrage of un-funny amidst a few giggles and overall scripted slant. Her comedy sparks to a niche group of folks-She won't last-Or, maybe, the quality of entertainment and performers will continue to slide, and she'll be a type of maverick average as art, film, music, etc. reaches a crescendo of awful for people with actual taste and a broad-spectrum of experience, pleasures, and sage wisdom...So yeah, well, like, that's just my opinion man...

Well ive watched a half dozen videos shes done and im guessing if you want to call her out on a few videos you could just as you could call out Bill Burr for some of his bits regarding women. I say go through all her skits and come back with the numbers. I would be interested to know. Until them I think her agenda is being funny. She is a comedian.

Mad Movies w/ The L.A.Connection ~ Zorro's Fighting Legion

chingalera says...

Used to watch this show one year when it was on the tube religiously-Wanted to open a drive-in theater b/t two college towns, art films, coffeehouse, kitsch food fare, and on weekends take the soundtrack out of a cheap-ass B-film and have voice-over actors with mikes up front doing the dialog-Would have popped, timings' a bitch, can still work though...Someone should take my idea and run the fuck off with it-

GREATEST Fight Scene EVER

Jinx says...

Man, I haven't watched a martial arts film in ages.

The thing I always liked about Jackie Chan was the humour and ingenuity of the choreography. The fight scene at the end of Fearless with the 3 segment whip and Katana is probably my favorite though.

Liam Neeson, as you've never seen him before

moodonia says...

The Celtic channel is for Celtic stuff, from the channel description "Anything Celtic from anywhere Celtic. Music, Art, Film, Politics etc...". Liam Neeson is from Ireland so its seems an appropriate use of the channel to me.

>> ^papple:

What is the Celtic channel for? If it's supposed to be for Irish content, then call the channel Irish. The term "Celtic" is not exclusive to Ireland. It includes Scotland, Wales and Brittany. Celts originated in Central Europe for fecks sake!

Man With the Iron Fists- Quentin Tarantino- Red Band Trailer

kymbos says...

I just think they become Americanised empty parodies, despite their best intentions. I understand it's a homaage of sorts, but I think they just tend to fail. Even Kill Bill didn't really do it for me, and this film looks to me like the Kill Bill japanese massacre scene for 2 hours.>> ^Sarzy:

>> ^kymbos:
You know who directs great asian martial arts films? Asian directors.

That's very true. Not sure what point you're trying to make, though. No one else should be allowed to make this type of film...?
