Why Atheists Care About YOUR Religion

zombieater says...

>> ^klaqua:
Just proves that if you make shit up, make a video with cool music, show some cleavage and state things as fact (that are obviously not fact), you too can have a fan club and be hailed as hero.
Hitler could not be mistaken as and was not a Christian. His god was nationalism and the hate for the Jews. A hate that had no background in religion but common street rhetoric of the time. Someone had to be blamed for the loss of the first WW.
The much praised enlightenment and the "discovery" of evolution was much more an idea from which Hitler took it's page. Hitler used Evolutionary Theory to Justify the Holocaust. http://www.straight-talk.net/evolution/hit.htm
You can deny the facts but does not make them true!
http://www.icr.org/article/285/
Now that is just one of the 'facts' that are beyond wrong. Research the crusades and some of the wars you mentioned and you will find that while people call them self "religious" doesn't make them so.
Grow up and research your "propaganda".

Wow, there are so many errors in your argument, it's kinda funny.

First of all, your first source that you site to argue that Hitler used evolution to justify the Holocaust comes from a far-right Pentacostal Christian website...this is the website that also decries the seperation of church and state and describes abortion as "The great American holocaust"... not exactly a balanced viewpoint there. Your other "source" is just as bad - 'The Institute for Creation Research'...c'mon dude, seriously? You're going to need a lot more than that to convince me.

Let's set a few facts straight here:

1) Hmm...#1...oh yeah, Hilter was a deeply devout Catholic! How about some quotes, yes?

"I say: my Christian feeling points me to my Lord and Saviour as a fighter. It points me towards the man who, once lonely and surrounded by only a few followers, recognized these Jews and called for battle against them."

and

"I am deeply moved to perceive that his tremendous struggle for this world against the Jewish poison was most profoundly marked by the fact that he had to bleed on the cross for it..."

2) The Nazi party was officially Christian and the majority of members were Christian! Their political policy was to make Christianity the state religion of Germany.

3) R0SENCRANTZ is right. Pope Pius XI signed, and Pope Pius XII negotiated, a concordat with Hitler that gave the church immunity while they supplied the Nazis with money and legal protection for their acts. Pope Pius XI also signed a similar one with Benito Mussolini.

4) Some of the most antisemitic European political and social movements of the 1930's and 1940's were Christian parties.

5) The role of atheists and freethinkers during that time? Well, only 1.5% of the German popluation was self-proclaimed as such, and as stated by Stewart W. Herman Jr, an American clergyman who lived in Nazi Germany during the rise of Hitler, "The athiests may immediately be discounted as exercising any perceptible influence on German religious thought today...[their influence] has been suppressed completely by the new regime which places 'godlessness' in the same category with anarchistic Bolshevism."

This was mostly taken from an article by William Sierichs, Jr., an editor for a newspaper in Louisiana. He has a degree in journalism from LSU. The article is not online, but a similar one can be found in 5 parts from a professor in sociology at the University of Wisconsinhere.
Critically acclaimed books by professors in sociology, history, and anthropology contributed to this article. Authors such as:
Moshe Herczl, Randolph Braham, and David Kertzer.

Actually, I think he was trying to see which he'd get more hate mail for, trashing Ocarina of Time, or giving Hitler a thumbs up.

My money is on the former.

Shocking, Israelis celebrating in NYC while documenting 9/11

MycroftHomlz says...

Sure we don't burn books on the sift... Sure Fred Phelps is a crazy asshole...

But all these previous racist, homophobic videos were called out for what they were. Remember the video QM posted which was a combination of the add about homosexuality and the one for allowing special needs people to work. That was skewered. People were outraged, and rightfully so. Hate is not a videosift value.

Well, yes and no. It goes for a specific subgroup of a race of people. And I will certainly concede that the conclusions drawn from the alleged three people celebrating are way out of proportion. I'm not certain this is as bad as Mycroft seems to think it is.

Patriot, are we talking about the same video? Do you perhaps know more about this story than I do? Because your comments are WAY out there! This video is laughably unfounded and ridiculous. The fact of the matter is, you seem to be trying to defend the video on the grounds that you're pissed off at these guys for allegedly celebrating the terrorist attack. Might I point out that there is NO EVIDENCE to support this? Watch the video again. But that's not even the point. The video is trying to use extremely flimsy evidence to support the assumption that Judaism is evil and that Israelis had something to do with the 9/11 attacks or were aware that it was going to occur. That's what is antisemitic about the video. It isn't even about the guilt of these 3 guys, really. The end especially reveals it as anti-semitic propoganda.

Let's break this video down. FIRST it's an interview with a lady who thought she saw some guys who "didn't look shocked to [her]" and she could see that "they were, like, happy." Alrighty. First of all, this was 9/11, right? She was probably a little shocked and upset and, yes, a little bit paranoid. Okay, now that we have that water tight evidence, let's move on to the next thing: Some guy walking around looking at the moving company where those guys worked and a narrator asking, "Was this building being used as a front for some kind of Israeli intelligence operation that, possibly, was doing surveillance on the Arab American community? Were there men celebrating or slapping fives or whatever?" HAHA! Wait, what?! Does this make any sense to you? What a jump! First of all, how are those two questions related? And where did the questions come from? The video offers NO support whatsoever. THEN there is a clip with a police officer (who, I assume, was one of the officers who detained these men? Again, no help from the video.) who says nothing of substance. All he says is that the 3 men told the cops that they were not against them, but with them. I don't know what the point of this clip is, unless the video is trying to undermine its own objective. Now the fun part: The interview with the actual 3 guys. All that man says is, "The fact of the matter is, we're coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event." You took this statement and went CRAZY with it, Patriot! You claimed that the guys were admitting that they were enjoying the event because they liked seeing Americans getting a taste of terrorism. What he was PROBABLY saying, call me crazy, is that they were not as shocked as we were about the attacks because they are used to it. And I assume that they probably weren't as upset as we were because they're not American. And when he says that their "purpose" was documenting the event, you claimed that the word "purpose" somehow proves that there was a "pre-defined agenda." BAHahahahahaha! Your own silly assumptions about what he meant by "purpose" make no sense because he DIDN'T SAY IT. He wasn't even speaking English! He didn't say "purpose!" Many people had video cameras out that day with the "purpose" of documenting the event. Give me a break, man. Now for the silly author of "Nothing Sacred: The Truth About Judaism." He is saying nice, good things about Judaism. In essence, he is saying that Judaism is dangerous because it breaks down lies and the artificial contructions of men like false gods and national borders. Whoever made the video obviously didn't really understand what he was saying, or chose to try to put it in as negative a light as possible to make is seem like the author is saying that Judaism is a militant or something.

In other words, this video is wiggity-wack and you're making a fool of yourself when you say things like, "I just hope you understand why I got really upset at these bastards for something that THEY ADMITTED TO!" (Nope, they didn't.) AND, "I'm just extremely pissed off that you would defend these guys that were clearly happy to see 3000 American citizens die." (Um, no, not clear at all.) AND "They even claimed the reason why they were happy is because they were happy to see us get a taste of the terrorism that they've 'experienced'." (Dude. He didn't say anything remotely close to that.) AND, most of all, "By the way I'm sick of Jewish ppl calling the antisemitic card because something that an Israeli person(s) does pisses a non-Israeli off and we express our feelings on the situation. It's pathetic BS." (What the heck? If you don't see what's wrong with this statement, I'm sorry for you.)

Wow, that was a long vent.

Private website == no freedom of speech. There is no discussing that. Dag and associates make the law here and we can accept them or leave. Same with youtube, 4chan and every other site with forums and/or comments. We have extraordinary wide rules here, which makes us able to state our opinion however unpopular it may be.

Upvoting this video does not make anyone antisemitic either, btw.

Let's say for example that this lady actually saw people celebrating as opposed to people in hysterics.

Don't you see how this video uses hyperbole. It turns three stupid Israelis, into an zionist plot to knowingly allow terrorists to kill 3000 people.

Not only that, it uses this erroneous logic to promote this convoluted antisemitic world view.

If these guys were celebrating, which I find suspect, sure I find that horrible. But what I am trying to get you to see is that that is not what this video wants us to condemn. This video is far more sinister, and terrific in its perspective. It wants us to think Jews are everywhere pulling all the strings.

This is wrong.

MycroftHomlz says...

This video is hate. I am not pulling the 'antisemitic card' because you think I am Jewish. I see this for what it is and I am DISGUSTED that you are defending it.

This video makes several unfounded claims that promote a view that both antisemitic and encourages hate.

This should not be promoted on the sift in a positive light just like videos encouraging sexism, racism, and homophobia should not received positively on this site by this community.

Oh, and this is not the first time I have pitched a fit. The last time was video that was extremely sexist, and the time before that one that was antimuslim, and before that it was homophobic.

So by your prescription I am a gay, black, hispanic, muslim, jewish, hermaphrodite. Do you see how ridiculous your last comment is?

Almost 3000 ppl died there and these guys were yakkin it up (by their own admission).

By the way I'm sick of Jewish ppl calling the antisemitic card because something that an Israeli person(s) does pisses a non-Israeli off and we express our feelings on the situation. It's pathetic BS.

I find this highly inappropriate and very offensive.

This is antisemitic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism

What is most likely an error in translation is taken as an admission. They offer no other evidence, besides some lady who saw 4 guys in a white van who looked like they were both arabs and celebrating, which means nothing to me. Except that maybe she saw something she wanted to see.

This is hate mongering. And to see it on the sift and people not get outraged is disgusting.
